IOwnCalculus posted:Did this not too long ago - no movement other than a very slight audible / tactile 'clack' from the wheel bearings on both sides. It's been forever since I've dicked around with wheel bearings like the Ranger has; some movement is normal, right? You can't even really see it while watching, it's just enough to make a noise. Banged on the tie rod ends plenty and didn't see any movement out of them. There shouldn't be any sound in those bearings. You run the nut up, then loosen enough to get most of the drag out when you spin the hub, but there shouldn't really be enough excessive play that you can feel. Sticky caliper guide pins, calipers needing a rebuild, excessive water in the brake system, or bad brake hoses can all cause a brake pull. Issues with the rear brakes can as well: Leaking slave cylinders, worn out shoes, misadjusted shoes.

You've checked the drums for correct adjustment and checked for contamination from brake fluid or gear oil, correct?

Hmm. Well, we've gone through the obvious stuff. If your drums are good and no caliper is sticking, piston or slide or hose, it boils down to a suspension issue. I'm pretty sure Rangers of that vintage have 3-channel ABS so any issue should affect both rear wheels.

A 10" wide wheel fits easily, and a 12" is doable with the right offset and maybe a fender roll. Just a 10" wheel will allow 295/305 easily. A 12" will allow some serious tire.

Just new rubber hoses would be good. They can fail internally and bubble when you push the pedal, but still pass a visual inspection.

The downside being more tread depth means less feedback, and a harder rubber at the end of life if used in the P application. More tread depth, more plies, harder compound. The trifecta of good load bearing and crap handling and ride.

Antifreeze raises the boiling point of water by 20-30 degrees IIRC. I'm not sure if water wetter does this.
