BioWare announced that they will be opening up Star Wars: The Old Republic as a free-to-play game, alongside Game Update 1.5 on November 15.

Additionally, pricing for Cartel Coins was announced. Players will be able to purchase 450 Cartel Coins for $4.99 and can get as many as 5,500 for $39.99. Paid subscribers will receive 500 Cartel Coins per month as part of their subscription, and players who subscribe for multiple months at a time will receive bonus coins (the exact number of bonus coins will be released later)

Here is a list of consolidated F2P/1.5 info : http://dulfy.net/2012/10/13/patch-1...solidated-info/

"Has this game gotten any better?"
- Servers have been consolidated via free transfers (transfer your characters if you haven't done so already!)
- Group Finder is now ingame; no more spamming chat in Fleet to form groups! (Does not include Cross Server grouping)
- Travel times have been reduced significantly, especially through Legacy unlocks

Legacy System:
At the end of the first Act of your class story (around level 30), you will be able to create a server-wide Legacy. What this means is that you will be able to unlock benefits that will apply to all of your characters ("alts") on a single server (such as temporary traveling speed boosts and reduced Quick Travel cool downs) along with several per-character unlocks (such as increased experience gain and earlier use of mounts). A single level 50 character can fairly easily fund the Legacy unlocks of multiple alts. These Legacy unlockables synergize well with TOR's 8 unique class stories, which are a major draw for replaying the game.

Active Goon Guilds:

Black Knight Brotherhood: Empire - Prophecy of the Five
Goons:
Vazilli/Utnayan
Elbigote
Forcehaver
Anyone in the guild can invite.

That's No Goon: Empire - Jedi Covenant
Active guild that has a steady raid group.

The Old Republic has 8 classes split between the two factions. While these classes are exclusive to their respective side, the classes of each faction mirror the classes of the other. For example while the Trooper is only available to the Galactic Republic, it shared the same gameplay and abilities as the Bounty Hunter. It’s not an exact copy however, as many abilities are aesthetically different or used in different ways.

From a storyline perspective, each class is totally unique with a distinct plot that is integrated into the game’s overall arc, and at times, the storyline’s of other classes. Even within the same class however the storyline can vary based on your moral choices.

This part is really important. Those reading this thread and thinking about playing, should know that they shouldn't buy the game just yet. Right now is a really bad time to get into it because TOR is making the transition to F2P. The first big step is the drop in price on creating an account is going down to $15. Wait for that to happen first before getting an account if you want to play before F2P goes live.

IF THERE'S AN OP, I DIDN'T READ IT. ALSO, I HAVE NEVER USED GOOGLE OR WIKIPEDIA. MIND IF I ASK A FEW QUESTIONS?

Think there should be a more detailed description for the Advance class trees?
Something like

Scoundrel.
Tiered energy regeneraton mechanic i.e. the lower you are the slower it regens.
◦Sawbones(HOT based healing tree)
The Scoundrel patches his allies up using whatever medical supplies he can scrape together.

◦Scrapper(stealth melee DPS similiar to a Rogue)
Focuses on using stealth and the scatter gun to sneak in, take out the enemy, and get out.

◦Dirty Fighting(DOT spec regarded as mostly useless for a melee class)
These tactics leave no trick off the table and often leave an enemy crippled or bleeding.

Here's a couple more resources for the OP that I've found very helpful:

What to do at level 50: http://dulfy.net/2012/04/13/dailies...gearing-in-1-2/

Flashpoint progression:

Also, I suggest mentioning the following as part of a "Has this game gotten any better?" section:

- Group Finder is now ingame; no more spamming chat in Fleet to form groups!
- Travel times have been reduced significantly, especially through Legacy unlocks

Come to think of it, the Legacy System was a pretty significant addition to the game since the OP was created. It might be worth adding the following blurb:

Legacy System:

What this means is that you will be able to unlock benefits that will apply to all of your characters ("alts") on a single server (such as temporary travelling speed boosts and reduced Quick Travel cooldowns) along with several per-character unlocks (such as increased experience gain and earlier use of mounts). A single level 50 character can fairly easily fund the Legacy unlocks of multiple alts. These Legacy unlockables synergize well with TOR's 8 unique class stories, which are a major draw for replaying the game.

I made a trial account a few days ago and I hit 15 on a bounty hunter yesterday, I really love the way storylines work in this game, and the class quests and group influence and stories are great and I want to play so much more just for the story. I will wait for the game to go F2p though.

One thing I am confused about with the new f2p option is do you still need to buy the game for $15? Am I reading and understanding that correctly? And then after that you have the option to play for free from there, or to pay monthly.

Yes, you will need to buy the game for $15. I'm not sure if that price is only for August or if that's how much it will be from now on. Origin is still showing it at 39.99$ so it might only be retail boxes selling for that much. Yep, after you buy the game you can play for free or pay the $15 a month for all the perks. Keep in mind there still isn't a concrete date set for Free 2 Play, it could be next month or it could be Christmas.

The game launched with a single Operation (i.e. "raid"), the Eternity Vault. Subsequent Operations were added to the game in 1.1 (Karagga's Palace) and 1.2 (Explosive Conflict). We are currently on Patch 1.3, which landed on June 26th and consisted mostly of systems updates (including the Group Finder). We're not sure when Patch 1.4 will drop, but it will likely raise the level cap and a new plant, Makeb. This E3 trailer shows a lot of the upcoming content.

While many of us have concerns about Bioware's ability to push out content in light of layoffs and dropping subscriber revenue, I think the vast majority of us agree that the experience of levelling to 50 is still worth the price of box, especially at just $15.

Edit: Thanks for including my suggestions, LoG. I think you can safely replace the rather lengthy list of Flashpoints with that chart.

Are they going to do anything to speed up alt leveling? Part of what was miserable is having to pretty much grind through the same garbage over and over again if you made a new guy. Something like legacy armor (The BOE autoleveling armor you could get in WoW) that would allow you to just do class quests to level up an alt would be amazing.

1.3 put in "Legacy Perks", which allow you to buy experience bonuses, but only for one character, so they're like heirlooms in that respect. You need Legacy level 25 to get the highest XP bonus, which I hear is possible by just leveling one Rep and one Imp character and maybe doing some dailies.

There's an XP bonus specifically for class missions, but apparently it's not quite enough to level on those alone (it's +30%).

Everything will be consolidated down eventually to the destination servers. If you're on one of the underpopulated servers now and don't want to leave, you'll eventually be forced off by the time it happens.

There is incentive to do the transfer though, as you'll get a bunch of Black Hole Comms, and a pet (I believe).

Can we possibly keep this thread clean of all of the "sinking ship" talk and chatter about subscriber numbers, PR team biting off more than the development team can chew, and VOGEL/EA/BIOWARE ?

Mind Trick is one of the "sinking ship" servers but you need active game-time to transfer.
Despite what the transfer page says, you do not need an active account to transfer your characters. Give it a try!

Btw, The game's price drops on the 7th of this month to 14.99 and it's rumored that's when the actual F2P model kicks in as well.

The F2P model doesn't kick in until "Fall". However, current and past subscribers of the game will soon earn Cartel Coins (the F2P currency) for their trouble while we wait for the F2P launch.

LoG, could you add this link explaining the F2P system to the top of the OP? http://www.swtor.com/free

I hit Legacy level 21 with two level 50s, a bunch ~lvl 10s and a lot of dailies on my main, but no Ops or 50 PvP - I'd imagine you'd actually get 25 at some point during your third character. The lower grades of XP bonuses kinda suck, too, and you'll still need to do most of the planetary side-quests if you don't have the top tier.

All that said, it's still better than nothing, and the top tier does sound like it helps a lot. If the perks are still accessible with a F2P account, I'll probably start playing again.

I have a 50 sentinel, 50 marauder, 30 shadow, 27 gunslinger and 19 imperial agent plus a couple in mid teens...still not LL25 yet. I did several weeks worth of dailies on my 50s and TONS of PvP on my Sentinel.

I'm 23.25 or so.

e: I would LOVE to level my infiltrate shadow to 50 but jumping Jesus on a pogo stick it is THE most boring class to play. Double strike, double strike, project. Double strike, double strike, project. Double strike, double strike, project. Does it get ANY better?

That won't be necessary.

Thread title sums up my feelings and the cap on only 1 level 50 means I can't even comeback less I'm forced to delete my alts. Or is it just a 50 per server?

I just wanted to make sure anyone who is thinking about this sees this, maybe put it in the OP? Wasn't this $150 originally? Now you're getting all these things for 30 dollars, I will probably hop on this.

Yeah, the malgus statue and artbook, etc. is probably worth that alone if you like cluttering up your living area with things.

I know I traded my malgus statue for an AR Drone when I got mine. Your mileage may vary.
