porkface posted:That is patently false. They can sponsor whomever they like, and have already moved into NASCAR. USPS will never be cursed with a doping association in the public mind, as evidenced by their sponsorship of NASCAR. What? Picture USPS sponsoring a team/individual in a sport where everyone knows that lots of the top tier are doping, but nobody's being busted, like the NFL, FIFA, or tennis. Lance's picture would be right next to the unlucky athlete in every news article, in the yellow USPS jersey that officially never existed. edit: To be clear, I'm not saying this alone justifies a damage award bigger than Lance can probably afford to pay. But their endorsement of him has absolutely done their image some amount of damage. Maybe it's not enough to close a court case, but considering the circumstances it's enough to open one. As long as they're not found culpable their $30m will be welcome by any other league. A new ad featuring Joe Flacco isn't going to run next to an old ad of Lance in the yellow jersey. A small handful of people would chuckle about the flimsy connection, but that's not how advertising works.

correction: "would be" I seriously doubt there's a case for them to advertise with any of the big four leagues.
