FAGOONS: BUILDING BRIDGES TO A BIG GAY TOMORROWBrand new edit
If you're joining us thanks to a banner ad, welcome! I'd like to lay out some general de facto posting guidelines.
Firstly, obviously nothing homophobic, racist, transphobic, or sexist. Queer people who post in this thread are trans, women, people of color, bisexual and a combination of all of those. Don't make comments about how gross you find other people's genitals to be. That is rude.
I would suggest reading a few pages of the thread. There are, after all, now over 150. You could also contact me or another one of the lovely people below who have volunteered to be contacted. Pop into IRC and talk to us, we'd be happy to help.

Otherwise, weíll keep the guidelines the same as for the last thread: the thread is for connecting, advice-giving, news-sharing and commiserating. Additionally, since Iím OPing Iím going to go ahead and say that you are not a better gay if you donít conform to ďflamerĒ stereotypes and arguing about how thatís horrible just makes you look like a dumbass so letís not have that conversation.
Additional informational websites
Towleroad.com : Gay/queer news and celebrity gossip, mostly for men.
Autostraddle.com : Lesbian/queer news and interest, geared towards women (my personal recommendation)
Chadzboyz : Mostly geared towards younger queer/questioning/gay/trans teens; also has a forum
PFLAG : Community, education, support for when your parents are being total dickheads.
Planned Parenthood : Tips on safer sex and coming out. Your local Planned Parenthood probably also tests for STIs, has low-cost condoms/dental dams and is probably staffed by saints.

If you missed the contact deadline for the new list, PM/IM/email me (I guess you can post but I donít want to clog up the whole thread because Iím just so mean) and Iíll put you in.

Hey fabgoons. Show me your agenda, I'll show you mine.

Glad to see another thread up. Thanks Eponine! You should email me if you need someone to listen or just need to vent. I just came out to my dad about a month ago, so feel free to ask about that if you have any questions from someone who's been there. Or about anything else, IDGAF, I am bored frequently and it'll give me something to think about! I'll talk about things to you in text format! Especially if I'm drunk! Which I usually am! Exclaiming things for emphasis!

In gay news, I have date number 2 with a cute guy I met on OKCupid this week! Wish me luck.

I am currently listening to the Smiths with RuPaul's Drag Race on in the background, working on my night cheese, and drinking some wine. I don't usually do it up this fly but when I do, honey I DO. THIS. poo poo. UP.

New thread again!

Here's something fun. I read the following terrible gaming blog every once in a while because it is syndicated on a news site that I read every day. So a couple of weeks back one of the reviewers posts the following, the absolute embodiment of over-priviledged, ignorant "allies" someone mentioned in the previous thread:

quote:

GaymerCon, this makes me angry

Itís no secret that I am not anti-gay in any way and that the idea of people being treated differently simply because they love someone of the same gender gets me quite riled up. Live and let live people, but the idea of a GaymerCon has gotten me really upset this morning.

The idea behind GaymerCon is simply to create a gaming and tech conference to cater for the gay, lesbian, transgendered, gender queer (?wtf) and bisexual folk out there and while that idea sounds nice I feel it goes completely against the purpose of treating people equally.

How can you honestly expect the heterosexual world to treat you equally if you are going out of your way to separate yourselves from everyone else. Itís ludicrous, if you want to go to a gaming convention then go to E3, PAX, Gamescom or any other of the many that are going around.

If you want to go to a tech conference then you have a huge variety to choose from but if you only want to go to one that caters for homosexuals then you lose the right to complain about being victimised. Youíre making yourself a victim by doing so.

Side note, I feel just as strongly about these christian (or other religion) expoís that get organised so that you can work closer with other religious companies. How can you expect to not be mocked and persecuted if you go out of your way to ostracise people of a different faith. Youíre all hypocrites and if we tried to do the same expo based on race or gender weíd be locked up.

Anyway, the slap-fight that broke out in the comments section certainly made my Friday a happy one, especially since we all live in a country where people still get murdered stone dead quite often for being happy homosexuals. Where do you even start with pointing out the douchebaggery in this piece of poo poo?

I want to make a privilege bingo card.

"If black people want to be treated equally, then why do they have affirmative action?"

"If the handicapped want to be treated like everyone else, then why do they get special parking spaces?"

"Why don't they just learn to speak English of they want to live here?"

Although much as I hate to play devil's advocate to people that are complete dipshits, I realized something recently. Some people no matter how good or well intentioned they are simply can't grasp what the world is like outside their own bubbles. I had a good friend say to me that I've never been a victim of homophobia basically because I haven't had anyone shout slurs in my face or beat me up for being gay (I should also mention the reason this came up because it was one of many times I politely asked his girlfriend to stop saying things are "gay" if they're bad or lame). He's not a bad person and is completely accepting of all people but I just realized some people can't see beyond themselves.

That being said, the writer of that piece is still a loving moron.

The social right has changed the rhetoric from outright and shameless bigotry to annoyed disposition. Read any of the comments on right-leaning sites or listen to republican politicians discuss homosexuality and that's what you'll find. It's a step in the right direction because it shows the ideology being ineffective enough to warrant a change to make it more appealing.

Gavin is simply reciting talking points. How that's appropriate for the "general news" section on what seems to be a gaming site is beyond me. Does he think he's the first to express that opinion?

The progression of opposition has more or less morphed as...
"Fags have a mental disorder"
"We can't write laws protecting the unnatural"
"Ok but what about my religious beliefs?"
"Shut up so I don't have to acknowledge you exist"
"I don't care what your orientation is, just keep it to yourself" <We are here
At least that's my opinion from what I've seen.

Epo, you forgot the "u" in my username, but that's ok.

Awww righht comin' out of the 'lurkin the old thread' closet for this new thread. Helllloooooo!

I'm F, lesbian, 25, in the Portland, OR area. I have PMs. I came out at 14, and got harassed and physically attacked as a teen in SoCal, so I can help with managing the aftermath of those issues if you've got 'em. I also just like to chill with local gays, gal or guy, so that's always welcome too. We can walk dogs, drink cider and be super Portlandia together.

Lately I've been moving further and further away from my formerly entirely high-femme outward appearance into a more masculine one, and I gotta say, I really like this a lot more. Previously I was trying to work the whole 'confident boss domme' angle and now I feel a lot happier just being able to wear little boy's T-shirts and, god help us all, actual flannel and khakis. Fashion aspects aside, I just feel much more comfortable now, and my sex life has improved drastically.

Anyone else going through this? I feel like I should've figured this out much sooner than 25.

I had this exact argument with a friend of mine except it was about the Gay Gamer group we have here in Toronto. He absolutely could not understand why we'd "need" a gay gamer group. When I explained to him that it was just a safe space for gay gamers he got all defensive and was like "well, what if I wanted to go?" as if for some reason we were an exclusive club closed to all dirty breeders and cissies.

I dunno, I've always thought of gay groups as similar to how some cities have ethnic rec centres or social groups. Yeah, you want to be a part of society as a whole, but sometimes it's good to spend time with people with similar origins or interests as you.

Also there tends to be a lot of casual homophobia and racism in the gaming community as a whole, so it's nice to be able to play video games with people who aren't going to call you a dirty enjoyable human being for beating them at a game

"Winter is Potato"

I sorta lurked in the last thread (made a few dumb comments, stopped reading) and I wanna try it again. So.

Female, superfemme (just try to pry my favorite heels out of my cold, dead hands) but handy and unafraid of getting dirty, about to turn 34. Earned a bachelor's in music that I don't use other than to prove that classically trained musicians aren't too snobby to listen to Nicki Minaj. I didn't come out until I was 23 because until then I didn't care about either gender. Grew up in New England, so I have a pretty chill view on pretty much everything. I currently live in Sin City where I've been with my GF for eight(?) years (stopped counting), working as a bigwig for a construction company, but my boss/coworkers think I have a boyfriend because they're religious as gently caress and would fire my rear end if they knew. As a side job I make and sell nail polish and occasionally sew a fabulous frock for a few drag queens.

Yea, I was going to say that I'm always baffled why it is so hard for people to understand why minority only groups exist. I don't want to stereotype gamers but it just be nice not to have fag thrown around in every sentence, of course they'll say they aren't actually homophobic they just can't stop themselves from constantly using gay as an insult

It's fun, and I'm not taking anything too seriously, except that I've discovered that I prefer when my lady refers to me as her 'stud' instead of her 'sexy little girlfriend'.

I had soooo much angst about girlbits growing up, and wondering why I felt so awkward in girl clothes and the like.

For a while I even considered the possibility that I might be trans, but after I came out I realised - no, I don't want to be a guy. I want to have what they have, is all.

Nowadays I consider myself a genderqueer dyke, and I will frequently be found rocking a suit, tie and glittery nail polish simultaneously.

Also there tends to be a lot of casual homophobia and racism in the gaming community as a whole, so it's nice to be able to play video games with people who aren't going to call you a dirty enjoyable human being for beating them at a game

This is true to a frustrating degree. It was awesome hearing so many nerds get pissed when Dragon Age 2 came out, and how they thought that just the existing possibility of being able to have a gay relationship ruined the character. How dare they make a game where the main character has even the slightest option of deviating from my demographic? Although I think worse than that was when I was playing Left 4 Dead 2 with some people I knew through a mutual friend, and one of them complained non ironically that they had to be the girl.

I have two, so that totally makes me gayer than you.

My girlfriend's a recovering skater punk who's been into the teenage boy look for the last couple of years. We should all party. Remember the super lesbo pom playdate!

Dude, Pardalis is hot. Like hot, hot. Big red pile of dreads, sexy curves, green eyes. Yes. I have a hot goon girlfriend. Love created on the forums~

So I'm not letting you around my woman, basically. You have two poms, this is enough to sway her. yes we will and totally should goonmeet omg girltalk

It's been a long time since I've been the more masculine partner. It's awesome and I'm finding myself feeling a lot more genderqueer these days. My last relationship was with a transguy, and he's a good friend so we've talked over a lot of those issues, and I don't think I'm trans, but drat it feels good to play around with masculinity.

Speaking of, anyone have a Rodeoh? Five stars.

God, I wish I could pull that off, but I look waaaaaaaaaay too feminine and like I'm trying too hard. The best I can do is men's inspired women's clothing, and even then I just end up looking naughty secretary, so I don't even bother anymore. So jealous.

I was totally opposite as a kid, though. I grew up wishing I was a boy and my parents thankfully let me go wild with it and didn't bother trying to push me into any kind of stereotypical girl bullshit, but something in me snapped around 25 and it's been all nails, hair and heels since. The only holdovers have been my obsession with Chucks and band t-shirts (feminine cut, of course).

You just described me (sans dreads) and I'm not attracted to girls who look like me, so you're safe! Maybe.

I suppose it helps that I look a bit mannish. Soooo hard for me to look girly. I envy the girls who can look girly without even trying...

I have huge boobs

But then I have issues with myself looking too mannish when I go full out. I've lingered for a while with cutting my hair, but I think I'm just gonna go ahead and do it. I'm Italian, it'll grow right the gently caress back whether I want it or not.

Still though. Massive tits. What does one do with massive tits and no binder?

Awesome sports bras or sports compression undershirts (like $10 at Target). You don't need to actually get a binder to have smaller looking tits to fit into men's clothes better.

edit: to clarify, it won't flatten your chest the way a binder would, but it will smush them down a cup size or two!

Those slimming shirts made by Flexees, Spanx and the like do help some. I used to layer those before I got my hands on a binder.

My girlfriend did the Ace bandage thing for a while, too, and you can actually get minimizing bras pretty much anywhere. I once read in a celebrity rag that Jessica Simpson actually uses two sports bras when she goes running, and I'd imagine that would compress them pretty well.
