Looking at Prison Architect. Or not looking at it? Or maybe both. You may have to convert yourself into both a wave and a particle for this. Cats may or may not be involved. Good luck.

Generally goons frown on using "win" and "fail" in that way (e.g. "so much win"). I'm trying to save omeg from falling to a probation.

I prefer to think of it as a benevolent HoA that doesn't want to see 4channers moving in and killing the property value.

On that note, I hope there will be some aspiring individuals who come to my colonies and have outrageous demands for my colony much like an HOA.

Whats that nobleman? You are mandating that all houses are made of flesh bricks? That sounds like a reasonable request and will certainly preserve property values in our burgeoning colony.

Mr. Gardner has dyed his lawn simply the most hideous color, and now his poplars are decaying into grey dust? What exactly does the HOA intend to do about it?

Looks like you got a good deal there!

Having multiple noble families move into your city, each of which hates the other, has their own wants in terms of how they think you should run the city, and provide benefits if you suck up to them (while the ones you didn't suck up to sabotage you) seems like it could be pretty hilarious.

Then we'd have dead teenagers-in-love littering the lawns. And no one wants that. Nothing drives property values down more than dead teenagers.

Just zap them with a zombie ray and they will be all over the town at 2 am loudly moaning their love for each other on rooftops with anoying disney background music.

Yeah, Disney has gone to some great lengths to expand the ideal of 'princess' to include non-western non-Caucasian figures. I think it's about time they reach out to the post-life community as well.

You know, this could be the impetus to actually make use of eldritch artifacts that man was not meant to know. I mean, so far, they've been described in pretty horrific terms, and if they were merely there for you to use if you wanted to, you might not want to, which is no fun-- but players will avoid fun if they think it'll work better for them.

But if you had nobles demanding the use of eldritch artifacts, each noble providing dire consequences for disobeying, and with different but also horrible consequences for just killing off the nobles... well, you might consider the artifact the least bad option and go for it.

I like the idea of having competing nobles, each with a different positive or negative for obeying. And you could choose to disobey them both for both their negatives, but not having to put up with their bullshit.

It'd probably be better to focus on positive effects for the nobles. You wouldn't want to punish a player who just wanted to do his own thing.

Actually the Noble families I dea could be done like the Gods in the latter impressions games. Make them happy and they shower you with bonuses. Piss them off however and see random buildings burn down, loss of goods and production declines.

Everything I need to know about the nobility I learned from Dwarf Fortress I fully endorse rear end in a top hat nobles who will do anything, including summoning Cthulu, if it means they get to brag about it at the next mask ball.

Positive effects... of nobles? That's like the positive effects of the horrible creatures lurking in the dark... or cholera or something. They're another form of environmental pressure making your house of cards settlement all the more tenuous and prone to spectacular collapse.

I wonder if there's lava in this game... because that's always a good solution to nobles. Or horrible creatures. Or cholera.

Though I suppose ideally your solution for nobles in this game should be pretty difficult and costly, so there's a real tradeoff between solving them and letting them fester.

Ideally nobles are the only ones capable of doing research, because they have the time and money to do so. Everyone else is part of the oppressed masses slaving for their British overlords. I suppose we could tolerate a piddly middle class for the overseer's but only if I have the choice to give them whips.

That's a good point. Research at this time was generally done by those who had enough time and money to do it; there were (effectively) no paid research positions.

You could have nobles that are assholes but who also make advances in the useful arts.

A trait system could come into play. You could have eccentric geniuses, sycophants and sociopathic nutjobs. I'm basically thinking most of the traits in Crusader Kings 2 that have real noticeable effects on their behaviour. So that noble might be a greedy and arbitrary asshat with dreams of world domination, but he's also the only competent Thaumeturge in your colony so you tolerate his lust for power while he's still useful.

Edit: I also just backed Stonehearth which looks wonderfully similar and I can't wait for this market to be saturated
