The game sounds very faction-based, the excerpts talk about a secret group using some dumb key, then some place called Dyrwood leveling some messiah's citadel. Some special song. It's gonna rule.

Dyrwood = Direwood = Forgotten Realms = The Black Hound = BG3.

Goddamnit, there is no loving Baldur's Gate 3, nor will it ever be made. Throne of Bhaal wrapped up the storyline. BG3 is NWN, NWN2, Dragon Age, and every game that has tried to capture the "spirit" of BG since then, because it's pointless to make a game called Baldur's Gate with a 3 on the end of it since at the end of throne of bhaal you are level 40 and near-godlike. There's no reason to not just start a new IP...which people have been doing for some time.

What we need is for Dragon Age 3 to be like dragon Age 1, because Dragon Age 1 style of play is the closest we'll ever again see to BG-esque rpg gameplay, aside from indie projects. But from what I hear they are sticking with some of the "actiony" aspects of DA2, so DA3 has a 50/50 potential to be a huge turd or a pretty good game, like DA1.

Sadly, it'll never be baldur's gate, I guess that style of gameplay only appeals to us nostalgia nerds, and there aren't enough of us for bioware's big budget games.

The Black Hound was a thing though, and JE Sawyer was working on it. I even think it's something he'd be excited to go back to, he posted about it one time if I recall correctly.

After the game's cancellation, he was making a NWN2 mod version of the Black Hound in his spare time. He eventually had to stop due to lack of time.

I would say he's fairly committed, and my curiosity is piqued.

Speaking of Dragon Age 3:

http://gamersyndrome.com/2012/video...idians-new-rpg/

quote:

As you may already know, Bioware and Obsidian have a nice relationship where Bioware has entrusted a few of its franchises to Obsidian for them to develop sequels for. When I first saw the Ouroboros (dragon eating its own tail), I automatically thought this may be a sequel to Bioware’s incredible 2005 Asian-inspired RPG, Jade Empire. However, that was until I read the text below the picture.

The name “Eir Glanfath” automatically sounded to me like a name from another more recent franchise from Bioware, Dragon Age. Dragon Age 2 was met with mixed feelings so it may be that Bioware could be handing off the next game, which we already know is in development, to Obsidian. After seeing the picture I found when I went to the site, my suspicions went way up. Of course there is a dragon, but the biggest clue to me was something much more subtle. In the last line of the picture it simply says, “Digging for truth burries the seeker.” Those of you familiar with Dragon Age will recognize the seeker that was digging for truth in Dragon Age 2 about the events that culminate in Dragon Age 3, with the Chantry and Circle broken and chaos running amuck. I strongly believe this could be Obsidian’s new game.

I will say that I loved Dragon Age and never even touched DA2 because it looked and sounded like it ruined so much of what I loved about DA:O. If Obsidian was given the freedom to do DA3 I'd be excited just since I would like to return to the DA:O world, but I'm really hoping that it's something entirely new and entirely their own.

I dunno man. EA is pretty hardcore on doing multi platform releases. A PC exclusive of a game they previously delayed just to add console support goes against their grain. Bioware might have say in who develops Dragon Age 3 but I guarantee that EA is the one that insists on multiple platforms.

To be fair every developer ever has been 'excited' about whatever they're developing, including everyone working at shovelware mills.

Personally I'm holding out for a new IP. I know a lot of people are excited about Baldur's Siege: Old Republic 3 but I'd much prefer to see them try something new in an original setting with their own weird rear end ideas.

Ah, the simple joys of a monkey knife-fight.

Eh, this DA3 "evidence" sounds rather tenuous and I really don't want them to be permanently hitched to sequels or existing IP. Here's hoping they've developed The Black Hound into their own thing.

I'm not really sold on the Dragon Age 3 theory but I'm also not really sold on it being a PC exclusive, unless Obsidian hates making money, or it's an MMORPG or Diablo type game in which case blech.

I cannot imagine a Wheel of Time game being in any way fun, it's just not the right kind of universe. Unless they just invent a whole bunch of poo poo that's not in the novels or whatever. I mean, what would you fight, for example? Twenty different reskins of Trollocs? Whitecloaks? And the "magic" system in those books basically boils down to "Wizards can do literally anything". Also I hate those books. So no. Please, no.

Except Dragon Age (in my opinion) had a good setting with tons of lore and history. it was an original IP, meant to free them from the constraints of loving forgotten realms dnd bullshit. It would be a waste, in my opinion, if they didn't get a few more good games out of the franchise, rather than end on a series of mediocre games. There's plenty of interesting, different ideas in DA that I like, and I'd be happy to see a group known for their good writing tackle and wrap up the setting.

It's almost probably (certainly?) Wheel of Time. Isn't the ourboros a motif of that series? Plus the little blurbs sound like WoT things. It's pretty depressing honestly, because there exists no other possible sequel to any franchise in any type of media that gets me more excited than loving Planescape:Torment. This sucks.

What were the details behind that next-gen release Microsoft shuttered? Was it Defiance? Was JE Sawyer leading or someone else? If they found another willing publisher, it could be a revival of that project. That would fit with the PC-exclusive rumor if it were originally designed with next-gen hardware in mind, but who would volunteer to publish a high end single-player PC RPG outside of Poland?

In any case: yeah, new IP. Finally.
