Ghosts LOVE dubstep.

What is Steins;Gate?
Steins;Gate is a Visual Novel developed by 5pb. and Nitroplus. It has the following notable features:
* Six endings!
* Art from Huke, an illustrator involved in Metal Gear Solid and Black Rock Shooter!
* A protagonist who isn't a bland reader insert!
* No porn!

Story in a nutshell: Self-proclaimed mad scientist Hououin Kyouma accidentally stumbles upon the secret of time travel. What will he do with that kind of power? Will he be able to set things right when they inevitably go wrong? Who else has taken an interest in this dangerous new technology? Can the past truly be changed?

LP Rules
* No spoilers! Even spoiler-tagged spoilers. This being a visual novel, the plot reveals are the main point of fun, so let's avoid ruining them before they happen. Theories from people who don't know the plot already are, of course, perfectly fine.
* Updates Monday through Friday. Subject to change at any moment.
* Due to the wordy and somewhat repetitive nature of the game, I won't be recording everything word-for-word. I'll be condensing and summarizing here and there, especially during the slower bits, but will try to keep the dialogue in particular very close to unabridged.
* I will be going through and getting all six endings, for completionist's sake.
* I won't be including the TIPS, unfortunately, as the English patched version of the game freezes and dies whenever I try to access them.

Ghosts LOVE dubstep.

Warning: This post may contain spoilers for up through the most recent update! Don't read it if you aren't caught up!

Characters

Lab Member #001: Okabe "Hououin Kyouma" Rintarou

Main character and founder of Future Gadget Laboratories. A self-proclaimed mad scientist and amateur inventor, his ambition is to overthrow society's ruling structures and spread chaos to the world. He claims to be on the run from a sinister group known only as The Organization, but they might be imaginary.

He accidentally created a device that can send emails back in time, and was working to uncover the conspiracies underlying the research organization SERN, when disaster struck. He is now attempting to undo all the changes he's made to the timeline.

Lab Member #002: Shiina "Mayushii" Mayuri

A friend from Rintarou's childhood and second member of Future Gadget Laboratories. She has no scientific skills whatsoever, and her primary focus is making (but not wearing) costumes for cosplay. Cosplay has no connection to Future Gadget Laboratories, so she is a completely useless addition to the team.

Unless Rintarou is able to change the future, Shiina Mayuri will be killed by agents of SERN on August 14, 2010, between 7 and 8 PM.

Lab Member #003: Hashida "Daru" Itaru

Fat smelly otaku. He has a wide variety of 2D waifus, who he cheats on with 3D maids. He is Future Gadget Laboratories's primary technical expert, a peerless computer programmer and hacker. He has successfully hacked his way into all but one of SERN's databases.

He is also the future father of Amane Suzuha.

Lab Member #004: Makise "Assistant" "Cristina" "The Zombie" "Celeb Seventeen" "Birthmark" "@channeler Cris" "Experiment-Loving Girl" "American Virgin" Kurisu

Young genius scientist. She has been published in SCIENCE magazine. Rintarou saw her dead body at Dr. Nakabachi's conference, but she's mysteriously alive again. Nobody but Rintarou remembers this incident.

She seems to have a bad relationship with her father, who tried to pursue time travel research. Suzuha claims she has ties to SERN. Closet goon.

Lab Member #005 (?): Kiryuu "Shining Finger" Moeka

Part-timer working for a publishing company. She is a woman of few words in person, but can converse at great length over email.

So she claimed, but she's actually a SERN agent. She is a member of the Rounders, an organization that collects IBN 5100 computers in order to protect SERN's secrets, and joined the lab because Rintarou found one. Unless the future is changed, under orders from the mysterious FB, Moeka will invade Future Gadget Laboratory by force in order to steal the plans to the Time Leap Machine. Mayuri dies in this raid.

Lab Member #006: Urushibara "Rukako" Ruka

Shrine Maiden at the Yanabayashi Shrine in Akihabara. However, Shrine "Maiden" may be an innacurate term, as Ruka is actually male. Rintarou's disciple in the art of the Demon Sword Samidare, although he's not very good at it. Mayuri wants him to do cosplay.

His shrine was holding the legendary retro PC, the IBN 5100. It has since been lent to Rintarou.

Ruka was initiated as Lab Member #006 so that he could use the Microwave Ophone (Temp) to change his gender. As a result, he is now a girl, although nobody remembers the change other than Rintarou.

Lab Member #007: Faris "Akiha Rumiho" NyanNyan

The #1 maid at the maid cafe MayQueen+Nyan2. Daru is obsessed with her to a borderline unhealthy extent. She is a peerless player of the card game RaiNet AccessBattlers, and one of the few people who can out-maneuver Rintarou when it comes to talking about ridiculous nonsense. She is the daughter of one of the landowners of Akihabara, and as a result has a huge amount of influence in the area.

Faris was initiated as Lab Member #007 in order to let her use the Microwave Ophone (Temp), in exchange for usage of her personal network of fans.

Lab Member #008: Amane "Working Warrior" "John Titor" Suzuha

New part-time employee of Tennouji's CRT shop. She seems to be pretty good at putting up with Rintarou's eccentricities. Does not get along with or trust Makise Kurisu.

Became Lab Member #008 after a failed attempt to find her father.

Suzuha is actually a time traveler from the year 2036. Going by the alias John Titor, she plans to go back to 1975 to secure an IBN 5100 computer, but her time machine is broken.

Yuugo "Mister Braun" "Manager" "FB" Tennouji

The owner of the building where the Future Gadget Laboratory resides. Also runs a shop for selling CRT monitors, which gets nearly no business. He has a daughter in elementary school. Loves Braun Tubes.

Moeka's superior officer. After completing his duty, he committed suicide.

Nae "Sister Braun" Tennouji

Mister Braun's daughter. She has a prefectly reasonable fear of Rintarou. Sixth grader.

In at least one timeline, she killed Okabe in the year 2024, then Time Leapt back to the present day to kill Moeka as part of a convoluted act of revenge.

Doctor Nakabachi

A scientist of questionable repute. He claims to have invented a time machine, but his research is suspiciously similar to that posted by John Titor. The press conference where he was going to present his findings was cancelled when something crashed into the lecture hall.

4ºC

An insufferable dickweed who plays RaiNet Access Battlers.

Future Gadgets
Future Gadget #001: Bit Particle Gun
TV remote installed inside a toy ray gun. Point it at the TV and pull the trigger to change the channel. Remember your youth!
Only works for changing the channel. Other functions (power, volume, etc) must be controlled from the TV itself.

Future Gadget #002: Take-cop Camera
Camera built into a toy propeller. A ground breaking device that combines traditional Japanese crafts and state-of-the-art technology to blur the line between past and future. Flies without any power source.
We are aware that the picture quality is compromised by the high rotation speed of the camera. Please do not complain about this.

Future Gadget #003: Could this be 'ORAORA'?
Detects lies based on the sweat on someone's thumb. Our ultimate invention, bringing together all the power and ingenuity of the laboratory. See through every lie and every conspiracy.
We cannot guarantee that it will successfully identify lies for naturally sweaty people.

Future Gadget #004: Moad Snake
Super-instant humidifier. Boils a large amount of water using heated electric coils, blowing out a huge amount of steam. Good for the dry season. Looks like a claymore mine, can be used as a prop.
This Futue Gardget is only good for one use.

Future Gadget #005: Once again, I made something stupid, by Goemon
Eco-dryer that doesn't need electricity. Connects to a vacuum cleaner and uses the exhaust to function as a dryer. It's mad science, but it's clean science.
Dries using hot blowing air. Has no mechanism for regulating air flow.

Future Gadget #006: Cyalume Saber
Chemical type red cyalume. Hold it by the handle and use it like a sword. Fake blood launches out on a hit, making for a revolution in pretend sword fights.
Please use in a confined space, as blood can fly out in all directions, annoying people nearby.

Future Gadget #007: Ghost in the Ball
Fake optical camouflage device. Uses 12 type-6 Braun Tubes arrayed in three dimensions, interspersed with miniature C-MOS cameras, to project on each side of the object a camera image from the opposite side. Within the intervening area, a blind spot is created, while the space behind it is still visible!
Very large. Only buy if you're sure you have space for it in your house. If you roll it, it may break.

Future Gadget #008: Microwave Ophone (Temp)
A microwave that can be controlled remotely via cell phone. Have food ready for you by the time you get home!
Currently under development. Not yet for sale.

Ghosts LOVE dubstep.

Video: Introduction
(Voice: Mamoru Miyano.)

But that chance is predetermined by the will of the world.

I'm not losing it. I'm perfectly fine. What I speak now is the absolute truth, not some pretentious delusion.
No matter how trivial something may seem, it may change the tide in the great stream of time. Do you know what the "Butterfly Effect" is? If not, look it up.
Just try to understand how much care that takes.
Unfortunately, I didn't give a care.

The future wouldn't have turned out like this.
But how could I have realized that? How could I have realized that I held in my own hands the switch, the turning point that could determine the fate of all mankind?
Just think about it. The average human's perception is cut off by about 99%. People are stupid animals that can only think about themselves. They live every average day of their average lives, not noticing anything that happens around them. Do they percieve something and forget it, or do their brains not even process it?

I want to tell the me back then:

Don't do anything careless!
Don't do anything rash!
Don't pretend you didn't see that!
Pay more attention!
Conspiracy's evil hand was always closer than you had thought, always ready to trick you!

Stars too have a beginning, but are by their own power destroyed. Finite.
He who holds wisdom can recognize extreme foolishness in history.
The fish in the sea knows not the land ashore.
If they too hold wisdom, they too be destroyed.
It is more ridiculous for man to exceed light speed than for fish to live ashore.
This may also be called God's final warning to those who rebel...

Prologue

No sound is coming from the phone I'm holding against my ear. A perfect silence.

There's a girl here, trying to get my attention. She doesn't seem to understand that we're wading deep into enemy territory. I gesture for silence.

"Are you on the phone with someone?"

The phone is probably silent because our conversation is something that shouldn't be spread lightly.

"...No, ignore what you heard. Everything's fine. We'll infiltrate the assembly grounds now.
Yes, Dr. Nakabachi went off by himself. I'm planning on having him tell us plenty on the subject.
...What?! The Organization has already begun its operations?!
I see, so that's the choice of Steins;Gate. El Psy Congroo."

Steins;Gate.
One could call it 'the will of the gods', or perhaps even 'fate'.
Anyway, let's go ahead and start the infiltration.

I take the stairs towards the 8th floor. However, I used up all my strength upon reaching the 7th. I think this was a mistake.

"Who were you talking with on the phone back there?"

"Don't ask. It's for your sake as well."

"Really? Thank you, Okarin."

What a perceptive girl.

This is Mayuri, by the way. A 16 year old high school student, younger than me by 2 years. She's more like a little sister to me than a friend.

I want her to always be by my side. Thats a modest wish that I just had.

The sign says 'Doctor Nakabachi's Time Machine Invention Press Conference.'

"Anyway, Okarin, Okarin!"

"Mayuri, I keep telling you. Don't call me Okarin."

"Why not? I've been calling you that since a long time ago."

"That's all a thing of the past. I am now Hououin Kyouma, an insane mad scientist, targeted by secret agents from all over the world! Fwahahahaha!"

"But I can't remember such a difficult name."
"Besides, it doesn't resemble 'Okabe Rintarou' at all. What a weird name."

This is also why I dislike the nickname 'Okarin,' which was taken from my real name.

"So, Okarin. Uhmm, can you tell me..."

She's been calling me that for 5 years now, so I'm halfway towards giving up.

"What's gonna happen here?"

"You accompanied me without even knowing that?"

"Yup."

"What will begin here is Doctor Nakabachi's press conference."

"A press conference? But I don't see any reporters..."

She has a point. There are only about ten people here, myself included. You'd think there would be more people here, considering that this event's topic is the successful development of a time machine.

This is probably a disturbance caused by The Organization.

Right when I say that, a bizarre buzzing sound fills the room. What is this sound? An electromagnetic wave attack? The entire room is shaking.

The source of the sound is somewhere above us...

"An earthquake? Shindo scale 2? Magnitude 2? What was the difference between Shindo and magnitudes, again?"

Feeling somewhat bad for abandoning her, I leave the troubled girl and rush out of the assembly hall. Disregarding the sign that says 'no entry', I run to the staircase which leads to the rooftop.

There's smoke rising. Also, some kind of rainbow-colored phosphorescent light is dancing in the air.

Holy hell, did something explode out here? Is this a terrorist act?

No, I don't think so. Theres a strange object placed in the very middle of the empty space of the rooftop.

It's some kind of machine, about three meters high. What is this, a space satellite?

Maybe it has something to do with Nakabachi's presentation. But even if that's true, then how would he get this thing up here?

One of the staff waves her hands, urging us not to come any closer. Is she trying to hide something?

The situation is dealt with quickly, and I'm kept away from the object that looks like a satellite. What are they trying to hide? What was the explosion about? What is this thing?

One short search later, I find Mayuri on the 7th floor, in front of a line of Capsule Toy machines.

"Yes, I understand. I won't do anything irrational. I, too, value my own life. El Psy Congroo."

Mayuri doesn't seem to be bothered by the explosion at all. Is she amazing, or idiotic?

"Mayuri, what are you up to?"

Of course.

There isn't a person alive who doesn't know the anime 'RaiNet Kakeru'. The card game based on it, RaiNet Access Battlers, even gained popularity overseas.

(There is actually a set of official rules for RaiNet Access Battlers, and the game was sold at Comiket 90 in 2011. It's based on a German board game from the 80s!)

Oopa is the series mascott. It looks like a cross between a dog and an egg. Exactly the kind of thing that gains popularity among high school girls.

"Go ahead and try it, but it's not guaranteed that you'll get an Oopa."

Yes, Mayuri calls herself 'Mayushii' for some reason. Also, she wants me to fund her Oopa addiction.

"Don't act like a spoiled brat, Mayuri. I won't lend you money. Right now I'll teach you how harsh life can be."

"Ah, it's an Oopa. And it's metal. A Metal Oopa!"

"Is it rare?"

"Very!"

The boy gets a regular Oopa. He eyes Mayuris Metal Oopa with resentment.

Well, I don't have any use for this thing.

"Eheheh, thank you, Okarin♪!"

Is she ignoring me on purpose?

Looks like it's getting started. I head back towards the 8th floor. Mayuri isn't following me. Hey!

She's engrossed with the Metal Oopa. Oh, well, she'll be along eventually.

Greeted by the clapping of only a few people, Doctor Nakabachi appears. He has a sour look on his face.

"To those who have gathered here, I will teach the theory behind the invention of the century that will surely stay in human history - a time machine."

"Time machine? Did he make one?"

I'm starting to understand how Doctor Nakabachi is treated by society. I'm here myself because of some personal interest, but I don't expect a lot from him.

As he talks about his time machine theory, I am filled with disappointment, which quickly turns into anger.

Video: Mad Scientist Hououin Kyouma gets mad
(I've disabled the music in the voice clip videos, so that you can watch them without turning of the music from the Tindeck links.)

"There's a limit to how much you can make a fool out of us!"

"Who are you?!"

"It doesn't matter who I am! The more important thing is the time machine theory you just recited! Everything you just said is copied from John Titor! How dare you call yourself an inventor?!"

"S-Somebody get rid of this man!"

"You're the one who should get out, Doctor! Have you no shame?! You don't have the right to call yourself an inventor!"

"Be silent, you annoyance! You concieted brat!"

Being quite sure that it's an official who came to take me away, I forcefully turn around and glare at the person.

"Let, go, of, m... hm?"

Not what I was expecting. She looks about as old as I am.

I remember this face. Have I seen her somewhere before?

Wait, I remember. It's Makise Kurisu. My friend Daru showed me a magazine she was in. The article was 'Girl Genius Gives a Lecture in Akihabara'.

She even had the same sullen look on her face in the magazine article. What's a genius like her doing calling out to me?

She doesn't seem like part of the staff of the assembly hall... wait, could it be...!

"Are you a member of The Organization?!"

"Huh?"

"For them to go that far... I underestimated them."

"Stop messing around and come with me for a moment."

I drew too much attention to myself with that outburst. I am an insane mad scientist being chased by The Organizaton. This could get ugly.

"What are you talking about? Try to act civilized."

A beautiful Organization agent, unmatched in cruelty... I sense trouble, but also feel exhilarated.

"I just want to ask you something."

"I don't have to answer that. I know how you Organization people work."

"What is this 'Organizaton'?"

"It's me. An agent of The Organization has captured me...
Yeah, it's Makise Kurisu. Be wary of her...
No, I'm fine. I should be able to escape."

"Guh, what are you doing?!"

"Huh? This phone is off."
"Who were you talking to?"

poo poo, she's good at this. An attack on my sense of identity? Stay cool. I won't give in to this attack.

I have such a phone to protect all my classified information. I take my phone back. Mission acomplished.

"Oh, so you were talking to yourself."

...Ordinary methods don't work on girl genius Makise Kurisu. My mental state is in peril!

I need to wait for my chance to retreat.

I'm unexpectedly charmed by her large, fiery eyes. Could the owner of such honest and pure eyes actually be an agent of The Organization...?

"What were you trying to tell me a while ago?"

"When do you mean?"

"You tried to tell me something, right? With a look on your face that was overflowing with sorrow. You looked like you were about to break down crying, and like you were in a lot of pain."

Is this a trap of some kind? She doesn't look like she's joking. Maybe she's an Organization agent after all! I can't let my guard down!

"I can see through everything."

Because I'm a mad scientist.

"Genius girl, next time we meet we're gonna be enemies!"

"Huh?"

"Farewell, fwahahahaha!"

Makise Kurisu calls out for me to stop, but there's no way I'm listening to the words of the enemy.

What to do now? Listening to Nakabachi's conference is pointless now that I know he's a fraud. I should just go home.

...Wait.

Why did I even bring her here in the first place? I let my guard down again. Let's give her a call.

Right when I'm about to make the call, I get a new email. It's a video mail.

The video is static, and I don't recognize the email address. What is this, some kind of sonic attack from Makise Kurisu?

Wait, I never gave her my mail address. I'm probably overthinking things here. I don't have time for this.

She's not answering. Looks like I'll have to go back upstairs, somehow avoiding Makise Kurisu on the way.

Wait!

drat you! Is this how The Organization does things?

I can't let Mayuri out of my sight. Even under normal circumstances, she's prone to wandering off. I wearily start going back up the stairs.

The impostor scientist finished his speech and left. Good. Makise Kurisu isn't here either. Good.

Mayuri is complaining about something weird, though. At least she wasn't captured.

"Ran away? Thats some real fantasy there."

I dropped it somewhere...

"If you don't see it, then give up. We'll just get another one."

"We won't get another one. You know, Metal Oopa go for 10,000 yen in internet auctions."

"What?! Mayuri, where did you drop it?!"

"I don't know, that's why I'm looking... Anyway, if we find it, we're not selling it, okay?"

"Fwahahaha, that 10,000 yen will go to my research funds!"

"I even wrote my name on it."

"Tutturu~♪ Mr. Oopa, Mr Oopa, please come out."

'Tutturu~♪' is something Mayuri likes to say. It doesn't seem to have any particular meaning.

We can't find the Metal Oopa. Maybe she dropped it back on the 7th floor...

What the hell was that?!

"A... scream?"

I can easily count the people remaining in the assembly hall. Everyone who heard that scream is cowering, myself included. It's not every day you hear such a hair-raising scream.

Leaving Mayuri behind, I start running towards the direction the scream came from.

I think it came from somewhere around here. I advance as carefully as I can.

After I turn a corner, it enters my field of vision.

In the middle of the hall.

Something is collapsed, with its face on the ground.

Someone is collapsed, with their face on the ground.

I remember that attire.

I'll definitely be following this, the Steins;Gate anime was fantastic. So good in fact that it kinda killed my interest in playing the game myself, so an LP is fantastic.

Great timing on this LP, since I just finished playing this game today. This VN is just great from start to finish, and the protagonist is amazing. Definitely gonna keep up with this LP.

That would be because I'm pretty sure the patch doesn't translate the TIPS. But I don't think we're missing out on much, since most of the TIPS seem to be just explaining references or minor background info.

I hope you're able to finish this, considering the amount of effort it'll take. The update schedule and mentions of a backlog are good signs!

The VN is a good supplement even if you've seen the anime, just by virtue of the additional insight into Okabe's mind. He's a pretty weird guy, and knowing what he's thinking is nice sometimes. The anime is probably better overall, though.

There's no required order from the paths, but there's definitely an encouraged order, as they all branch off at different points from the core story. Aside from one (technically two), you can get all the endings in one run through the game with relatively little replaying from past saves.

Everyone who hasn't watched the anime, stop what you're doing right now and watch the first episode. I'd link it, but it covers stuff we haven't seen yet, so, y'know, spoilers. In any event, the guy who plays the main character is absolutely fantastic, and if he doesn't sell you on the story then and there, there is no hope for you. It really is one of the best VN adaptations around.

Yeah, Chaos;Head got off to a great start then fell apart after the halfway mark. And cutting out the fight with Seira-tan was stupid as all hell. This is a much better show, and I've heard the alternate paths in the game are every bit their equal.

The voice acting in Steins;Gate in incredibly good, and I love that the main character is every bit as quirky and interesting - if not more so - than the side characters. Too often it seems that the main character is a boring audience surrogate or is otherwise not quite as interesting.

I had the same problem with the TIPS at first. I believe I fixed it by installing the game fresh with my computer in Japanese locale. I found them interesting, and it also went over some of the translation conventions used, but yeah, they are hardly essential. Just nice background reading.

Oh, a question about the way you're doing this. Do you manually re-type the dialogue and such when you aren't using screenshots, or do you have a script or a text hooker of some sort? I was thinking of LPing a VN myself sometime in the distant future, and I was curious about the method you use.

I'm typing it manually, although there's probably a better way to do it. I'm not outputting the exact script anyway (in prose form, Visual Novel scripts tend to look kind of repetitive and disjointed), so it's not a huge setback either way.

As a heads up, today's update is gonna be pretty short, on account of I stretched the first update out to make sure I could end it on a good cliffhanger, and it ended up being about 3/4ths of the Prologue. El Psy Congroo.

I can't see her face, but there's no mistaking it.

I realize that I'm shaking. What to do? I want to run. I want to run away. I shouldn't have come here to see this.

I can only see that somebody has killed Makise Kurisu. Who? There are no other people here...

Startled, I turn around. A few other men caught up with me. Completely pale, everyone is looking at Kurisu's dead body. The one shouting with a shaky voice was the man who hosted the conference.

Everyone starts screaming and run away simultaneously. I, of course, am among them, for there is absolutely no reason for me to stay here. I feel bad for Makise Kurisu, but fear trumps that feeling.

"Okarin, what's wrong...?"

"W, We're getting out of here!"

As we're running down the stairs, I try to remove the image of Kurisu's corpse from my mind. However, it's impossible.

I've never had to witness the death of a relative. I've never even attended a funeral. This was the first time I saw a dead body.

No other thoughts come to my mind. Even though my relation with Makise Kurisu was only that one meeting...

Once I reach Central Street, I stop. I'm completely out of breath.

"Hey, hey, what happened? You're completely pale..."

Mayuri didn't see that scene, so she has a nonchalant expression on her face. Also, she's perfectly fine after running this far. Nice stamina.

"A person... died."

"Eh...?"

Taking several breaths, I calm down a little. Makise Kurisu is dead. I don't know the culprit.

Once the ambulance arrives, the police will get involved, and this place will be in an uproar. For now, the hundreds of people walking around Akihabara don't know a thing. They go about their business, looking for electronics or porn.

I'll report this even to Daru, who told me about Makise Kurisu in the first place.

After an event like that, I'm not prone to making sound decisions. Humans are only human, after all. We're just something that comes out from a dirty piece of meat, and, by being nurtured in a womb, we gain free will.

Why do I even care? It's not like I'm the one who killed her. Heh heh...

Am I really so cruel and heartless? Fitting for an insane mad scientist such as myself.

Right after that--

Huh?

Wait, no, more important:

Summer vacation. Middle of Akihabara. One minute walk from the station.

Where the hell did everyone just go?

There were here just a moment ago. Then... something happened, and they all vanished. I am alone in Akihabara.

Consumed with fear and confusion, I look up...

Protruding from the top of the building...

Suggestions for future updates:

1. Take videos of important/funny scenes. The voice acting in S;G is really good and a lot of scenes don't work as well without it. That DOOOOOOCTOR scene is a prime example of one that deserved it. Make gifs of the divergence meter cutscenes.

2. The script that you have is partially unedited, as I'm sure you're aware. Make sure you don't let any inconsistencies slip through later on. Edit the scripts yourself if you have to.

3. Make sure that you include the TIPS as they come up. Some of them are pretty important to understanding the overall plot, while others provide context for some of the more anime-as-gently caress references. Leaving these at the end of each update would be a good idea. If your game crashes when you try to load them, look for the most recent patch before the project went dark, it should have a fix.

4. Give explanation as to how text messages are the "choices" for this game, as well as a deeper description of how the cell phone works as a gameplay element. Let the LP readers choose answers to important texts while going for as much completion as possible for the unimportant ones to unlock ring tones/cell phone backgrounds/background story/etc. As it is you haven't explained this at all in your test post and it is one of the coolest ways for player interaction in a visual novel I've seen (especially considering that a LACK of a response is also a choice). You haven't explained this at ALL so far, which is very worrisome because this just makes this a "Let's Read an abridged Steins;Gate script" thread instead of a "Let's Play Steins;Gate" thread.

5. Also don't abridge the script if you can help it. Steins;Gate is so heavy with both obvious and non-obvious foreshadowing that it would be very easy to mess it up by abridging the text. Plus a lot of the script is pretty funny, you shouldn't edit down comedy.

EDIT: I forgot that you can't actually really do anything with the cell phone until after the prologue, other than mess around with the ring tone and background wallpaper. Make sure you give it the attention that it deserves, at least. Maybe just take an entire update to explain how it works, etc.
