So for my dad's birthday my mom got him two tickets, second row, center ice, for the Cornell/U Michigan game at MSG on Thanksgiving. My dad and I have always gone to hockey games together, so she wants me to go with him.

Hockey has pretty much been my dad's and my thing from when I was super little. Some of my earliest memories are being taught to roller blade in our basement and later going to a public ice skate with my dad. He was my hockey coach in a ton of the leagues I played in as a little kid. He always used to get Rangers tickets through work and take me to the games, and one time he happened to buy tickets for the last game of the season really early on, and the Rangers ended up missing the playoffs, so we lucked into going to Gretzky's last game. The way she put it when she told me about the gift was that she didn't want to force me into anything if I had other plans and that other people could totally go with him, but it was pretty clear that she bought them with the intention of my dad and I going together. She's really awesome. (I guess maybe this belongs in the hockey confessions thread but I dunno if that's even still alive

Power Plays and shots are 4-2 and 14-12 in favor of Michigan, but each team's got a PP goal and it's 1-1 after the first. According to the box score Ryan McKay made a few saves and then left halfway through the first

So is Miami Austin Czarnik scored shorthanded to tie the game at 2, but Michigan had two in the 3rd. It's not easy to win at Yost, especially as a bunch of freshmen and sophs, but it looks like they made it competitive, I don't expect them to lay down tomorrow either. Levitate posted:Any Minnesota fans? I'm curious what you think of Brady Skjei. Looks like he got his first two college points last night, going 1+1 and getting some PP time, etc. Kinda late on this reply but Skeij is looking pretty solid. He scored a nice one-timer vs Mich State and he seems to look good in the WCHA, which always has a steep learning curve for D-men. I'll keep you updated as the year goes on seeing as I have season tickets and watch all the games. I think he is banged up currently but that might just be him sitting out since our games this weekend are an exhibition and a game vs Canisius. I'll try to remember to let you know if he's playing tomorrow.

Shots 25-24 Miami, but it's 2-1 Michigan after 2. Miami's a super young squad, so the fact that they're giving Michigan all they can handle is very encouraging. Hopefully this confidence will carry over through the break. If they're still playing like this in the second half, they'll have a pretty good shot once tourney time comes rolling around.

Miami opens up the 3rd with 3 goals in the first 6:30 and beats Michigan 4-3 Outshot 40-35, Jay Williams was mostly solid, Czarnik and Barber had another 2 points each, with the assists on the GW PPG. Incredible

I think the stripe on the pants makes the whole kit a little too busy and it'd better if they were just a solid brown, but the sweaters themselves are slick as hell. Those are really nice.

I just emailed our AD asking if they'll be for sale. drat do I want one. This will bring my BG sweater count to 4. I got a basic orange one in high school, then a brown Rob Blake one as a Christmas gift. The coolest of them is the authentic game-worn brown sweater worn by a great family friend of ours, who later went on to play in in the AHL and ECHL around 93-95. Has the old school CCHA patch with the skating player and streaks behind him. Cool as hell.

Miami's defense and goaltending has been aces so far so I'm not too worried, plus Ferris'defense is pretty young as well so hopefully Miami can take advantage, I just hope Ryan McKay is able to play this weekend. Freshman defenseman Taylor Richart had 18 blocked shots in 4 games going into the Michigan series and I think last weekend he unofficially had 10 more Obama Yo Mama fucked around with this message at Nov 2, 2012 around 18:41 |

Miami held Ferris to 1 goal through two and a half but ended up cracking and lost 3-0. We'll see how they rebound tomorrow, they've already got a nice response win in Yost to build off of. Power play was 0-6 though and now it's at the point where it's starting to become a concern.

ZYNGA STOCK CRASHER posted:Andy Iles with 44 saves to secure Cornell's 3-1 win against Colgate I was there, the shots were something like 25-3 Colgate after the 1st. At one point it was 14-1 or 15-1, and Cornell was up 1-0 because they scored on their first shot, about 40 seconds in. I've been to Starr Rink the last 3 Friday nights to see Colgate play. Every time they have given up at least 1 goal within the first 2:30 of the game. Colgate has lost 2 of those 3 games, both by 3-1 scores (Bowling Green and Cornell sandwiched around a 6-3 win over RIT) In both 3-1 losses, Colgate gave up an early goal, clawed back to tie, and then gave up a goal within 5 minutes of tying it. Both games then had empty-net goals. It was a good game, hot crowd, which doesn't happen all that often at Colgate now, though I'm seeing more students at games than in the last few years. Cornell seems to have learned the "creative malingering to get some rest off an icing" trick though.
