Kiss Me, I'm Hateful!

Heavy neutrino posted:

Am I the only one who regularly bans Twisted Fate? It's almost like typing "TF ult is up, play passive" instantly causes aggression to swell in your teammates' brains which they must immediately take out on their opposition.

I'm usually good at pressuring TF so he can't teleport, but everyone has to go back to base eventually and I can't pin him down forever.

The reason Twisted Fate rarely gets banned, especially in lower ranks, is that you don't see him very much. He is easily one of the most difficult champions in the game to play just because of how he functions. Assassins in general are difficult to play properly but Twisty is one of the biggest for this.

I think the reason that a lot of players don't understand "play passive, Twisty has ult" means is based on the same thing. He just isn't seen very often. I know I've met a fair amount of people that have bought him, sucked with him, and just shelved him forever. I think another thing is that a ton of players get extreme tunnel vision about their lanes. Playing Twisty right requires you to watch the whole map, all the time, and always know what is going on. It also requires good communication and coordination with your jungler to be truly effective, as well as good warding, which are things that most players just don't have.

I play a good amount of Twisty (when I can actually get the mid lane, anyway) and yeah, he's DIFFICULT. Even if you're like four levels ahead you're still extremely squishy and can't pentakill a whole team alone.

Libertine posted:

I got absolutely dumpstered by a TF the other day and it was so un-fun I don't even have a better phrase for it than "un-fun". I ban him every time now. If he's open and you get matched up with someone who can play him, you will not win.

It's weird because for how powerful he is, he's definitely one of those guys that is just way more popular in the pro scene than in the casual scene. Even though I have added him to my ban all the time list, it's hard to know if that's a waste or not, because he's not one of those guys that someone's going to first pick lock because he's open.

I don't see Twisty as any sort of overpowered, honestly. If they nerfed him basically at all he'd become useless.

Part of the reason you don't see him in casual play in how tough he is. I've noticed in casual play people tend to pick more aggressive, in your face champions, especially mid lane. The focus is all damage, all the time and ults that murder things. Twisted Fate is more...graceful, I want to say? He relies very, very heavily on proper timing and not getting killed. Again, he relies on personal skills that most players lack.

I can personally attest that the biggest throws I've probably ever done were done with Twisted Fate. He is one hard motherfucker to play. Being given the power to position yourself anywhere, in 3 seconds, is an incredibly powerful tool and very easy to not utilize to it's fullest power.

Personally I hate playing against Lux so I ban her every opportunity I get. It's just flat out obnoxious how far back she can be while still dealing her damage, shes such a popular pick as well and the good ones are nigh impossible to kill.

These four could get you by on every champion in the game, even if there are (and there are) more ideal setups for certain champions.

AD Carry/Melee Bruiser: AD/Armor/MR/AD
AP Carry/Magic Bruiser: MPen/Armor/MR/AP
Almost any Jungler: AS/Armor/MR/MS
Almost any Support: Armor/Armor/MR/Gold

This is a fantastic article on how to build out your champion and rune page arsenal with the most efficient IP spend possible:

So what kind of mouse do you all use to play leagues? I currently have a Razer Naga that is complete overkill (and to be honest not quite that comfortable), which I am switching out with a Logitech G400s when it comes in. Hopefully I'll be happy with that.

adc should be running flat ad reds and quints. arpen can be subbed in if you want but you'll get the most mileage out of the flat damage.

mid will want flat ap quints and either magic pen or hybrid pen reds. yellows can armor, scaling ap or mana regen. blues can be scaling ap, or flat/scaling magic resist.

jungling pages differ depending on the champion, though they will universally run armor and mr for yellows/blues. most junglers can function with attack speed reds/movespeed quints. some will want a combination of flat damage and armor pen, or attack speed and damage. if you're an ap jungler like amumu you can run magic/hybrid pen reds. just figure out what junglers you play and find the optimal rune setups for each.

top is basically the same as jungle as far as runes are concerned.

i keep two support setups on hand. both run armor yellows, scaling mr blues and gold gen quints. for ranged supports (thresh, lulu, sona, etc) i have flat damage reds to give my poke a little extra oomph. for melee supports (leona, alistar, taric) i swap those for flat armor reds.

I just use the classic Microsoft Optical mouse. I don't think I've ever spent more than 20 dollars on a mouse.

Is there anything at all I can do about a Jax top lane if I am GP? I've played a lot of games as the pirate and I ran up against a good Jax and I couldn't think of any solution at all other than like settle for the creeps I could get at my tower. I think I tried to rush an early chain vest and tabi and maxed W first but he still did more damage than I could reliably heal and by like level 7 or 8 he was able to just dive me under tower if I had anything less than like 60% hp. I ended up getting completely hosed for like 3 kills and 30 cs in lane and he rolled the rest of the game, so I'm wondering what I could have done different. Should I have just started straight into a mogs since he does hybrid damage and then worked on my damage items later? Or tried to balance offense and defense early on so I could at least trade some? It occurred to me that if I rushed frozen mallet then I get tankiness and can sort of escape him but as soon as he gets his ruined king he's right back on me.

You keep posting like every other page about matchups as GP and not to be a hater but IMO GP is just at a big disadvantage vs a lot lot lot of tops. He's just too much jack of all trades master of none. For example vs. Jax, I don't think there is really anything you can do to Win the lane- you probably can't all-in him at any point except maybe level 2 if you oranged away his stun perfectly. You can't really out sustain him early because you will OOM poking him and he will probably have plenty of potions and after his first back probably a vamp/ruined king/gunblade parts. And when you can't all in and you can't out sustain and you can't poke out, you lose. The best you can do is probably get a cup or philo or something for mana regen and just parrley a lot of minions and try to make jax frustrated and go too deep under your tower, while you use ult to support other lanes.
Call the jungler, basically. But do it in a nice way so he actually comes.

Yeah I'm just trying to become like as good as possible at a few champs at first and really try to learn what to do in all situations and matchups so that even in the lanes I can't really win I can minimize the damage, and I dunno GP is my favorite champion

Unfortunately, GP is probably one of the more mediocre toplaners in the current state of game. But goddamnit, you keep playing GP, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

I haven't played GP in months so maybe something has changed, but he used to be my favorite top lane as well. The problem is, there are too many champs that hard counter him. A great example is Warwick, there is nothing that GP can do in lane against Warwick outside of wasting gold on a Chalice and maxing Remove Scurvy first.

Any time you're in a lane that's not working for you, the best option is Jungle support. If you're GP and the enemy is Jax or WW or someone that GP can not beat, you're going to want your jungler to camp your lane. Depending on how the enemy team reacts to this, this could hurt the rest of your team as well. Your other option is getting a source of strong mana regen (e.g. Chalice) and eating oranges to stay topped off while hoping to outfarm your lane with parrley's extra gold.

You're going to run in to unwinnable lanes as any champ (either through being countered by the enemy's pick or being outplayed by the enemy laner) and the best way to react to this in Solo Queue is always to stay safe and farm as much as possible, maybe ask your team for a lane swap and see what they're willing to do.

The nice thing about GP is unless the other dude can zone you out through range, you can always opt to Bank it. Go Avarice Blade into a Statikk Shiv and get that gold.

I run a Cyborg RAT 5 because I was to poor to get the RAT 7 or 9. While I love this mouse to bits because you can change the back bit to suit the size of your hand better, if you are looking for like a hands down most comfortable mouse go with the 7 or 9 because they come with pieces you can swap in and out to get the best feel for your hand. The RAT mouses are really good when it comes to buttons for most games because on the 5 and up you get lots of buttons right at your finger tips which is useful in games with LOTS of Key Inputs

Honestly these news just make the labor activist in me scream. It's never encouraging to see someone just get cut off of a team with zero material recognition of the value that they contributed to it. I don't know Elementz' situation, but I hope he can recover from the, what, year and a half he spent not pursuing an actual career with actual job security.
