To anyone who has played this and War of the Roses, is this any better balanced and fun? I know there's no customization but I think the customization itself kind of unbalanced it by letting everyone put on plate armor and making it a constant you need rather than an option.

VarXX posted:Yes. You should really check out that TotalBiscuit comparison video before you decide though. Seconding this. I just finished his video and I agreed with every point he made. I think people are making a bigger deal about performance than they need to. I don't have any problems at all and everything is maxed out. Smashing someone with a weapon feels so god drat good in this game. I've played about 200 hours of M&B and I would take chivalry's combat any day. The fact that you can hit more than one person with a swing is so much better. And the death sounds. The glorious death sounds. Gurgle gurgle.

B-b-b-but the crunching sound in War/Roses is just so fulfilling ... edit: only thing so far between the two of them that the TotalBiscut comparison doesn't mention is the "healthbars" between the two of them. I really enjoy how War/Roses doesn't have much of a health UI and just provides you with blood spatter. Do wish it had a similar stamina expenditure though as Chivalry does, that would help with the spam-attacks. Caenum fucked around with this message at Oct 18, 2012 around 23:53 |

Played about an hour or so and I'm kind of on the fence whether WotR or this is better for me. Feels less random in that any hit will do damage but less precise in which it's not too hard to flail about and get some kills. I definitely like being able to take out any particular class without having to worry about the bullshit plate armor in WotR. That said Chivalry feels pretty similar to PVKII and the melee combat feels a little sloppy (as any FPS melee usually ends up). They both have strengths and weaknesses but so far Chivalry appeals to me a lot more with so much stuff in WotR repulsing me. The Yell button is pretty much the best thing ever.

Yelling alone makes this a GoTY contender. Other cool activities: -Explode two dudes heads like waterballoons with a single swing of your war club -Listen to the LoTR-type Led Zeppelin tracks and Italian power-metal in one of the few appropriate contexts for such music. -This game is the only other game besides the Tribes series to have awesome voice commands. -You should definitely get it.

This game is surprisingly entertaining, it's kind of like a casual M&B and when I say casual I mean you don't have to spend 16 hours a day practicing manual blocking to have a fun time in multiplayer. Also this screaming simulator is the poo poo because of siege, nothing like throwing a catapult into a slew of team mates and then apologizing for the rest of the round (after doing it two more times). Anyone who was in the old cRPG group or just liked M&B multiplayer should give this a try, because it is drat fun. Also remember to press X in game to go Super Saiyan. Is there a group of Goons playing this together yet? Was playing with some other Goons last night and had a blast with team play, someone get this train going.

Shiiit I was curious about this but now I have to get it. It hits the right notes. Battlecries, brutal combat, fighting that isn't decided by whirlwinding two handers but actual timing of the swings. It's the game I've been wanting.

This game is a ton of fun. I watched some videos of War of the Roses and the combat in this game seems much more intuitive, although more limited. I'm cool with that.

I'm having a problem. It won't install the Microsoft .Net package, and I can't see any servers on the list. I tried the fix on their forums by replacing MasterServer file and updating Steam Beta, but that didn't work. I also verified the game files, and it did that successfully. I still can't join multiplayer games. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this? I want to chop people's heads off and yell loudly while swinging a bastard sword.

If anyone out there wants to play as the Man-At-Arms, I've found the best thing to do is always use the mace. I'm told it does extra damage against Vanguards and Knights, and that's pretty much all anyone else plays as far as I've seen. It's goddamn dynamite, in my finest hour I killed 4 dudes pushing an objective with two swings of my morningstar.

This is so much more entertaining then war of the roses. Combat is more enjoyable and the missions are actually engaging and not a just kill other team. Customization isn't as deep but meh 99% of the stuff in roses was useless.

Just tested this game yesterday, at first I was a bit partial about the gaphics and the animations. They clearly used the same tutorial I did to create some of their grass this was during the tutorial.Once I joined a multiplayer round, and found out about the X and C keys this turned into awesome poo poo. The combat is really nice

I bought it the minute it popped up on Steam. Mostly getting my head chopped off, but it's fun nonetheless! Nothing beats charging the enemy with 10+ team mates and hammering the battle cry key. FOR AGATHAAAAA!

If its anything like the mod its based on, lots and lots of mods and maps. One of the most common maps I played was this Lord of the Rings map with all sorts of fancy objectives.

Very moddable, it's an UDK game so basically they could release the editor and the game code and everything could be moddable. They did the same thing with Red Orchestra 2 which is also built over UDK.
