rizuhbull posted:Played a couple games last night, and just now. Gotta say, pretty disappointed. It's alright for a mindless multiplayer slasher, but I doubt it'll still be played in a year's time. With that said, the dismemberments and first person kill cam are great, but everything else is too choppy and loose to take it seriously like Warband. Change servers. The ping lies. I had this problem at the very start but I changed servers a couple times and kept at it and everything started running smoothly. Though I also minimized all the graphic settings and even kicked down the resolution a couple notches. Maybe that'll help?

Nothing beats the absurdity of two guys decked out in full plate armor having an all-out fist fight. This game is amazing. For anyone looking for a good setup, I would recommend the knight with the one-handed warhammer and kite shield. The damage is great (especially since most people play knight or vanguard) plus you get the extra defense with the shield. The only downside is the lackluster reach of the warhammer but you learn to adjust fairly quickly.

Well, fun with goons is good. Lots of manly screaming and head crushing goodness to be had. Also finding the niche for Man At Arms class. They work pretty good counters to vanguards.

Man at arms is my favorite class by far. The archer is my least favorite. Becomes fairly worthless once the meatshields fall apart. Knight is stupid-strong, but he's the Heavy of the game. Stay the gently caress out of his way in a one-on-one fight but he can't do poo poo against a bit of team work, or flanking archers.

I love running from person to person like a ghost in the night as a man at arms with the war axe, decapitating everything. Play this game.

There's something special about being the last guy alive in LTS and spending 3 minutes leading the others on a merry chase while taunting and laughing.

Bought this game and just played for ~5 hours. It is seriously bad rear end. The moment that sealed it for me was in a last man standing map - I was an xbow on top of a hill near the center of the map with an archer buddy with me. We were the last 2 people left on our team. Most of the other team is dead so we are just scanning around looking for the remaining players when I hear the death scream of my buddy and turn around to see 3 guys charging up the hill behind us. I unleash my loaded arrow into one of the guys' face and he dies It was 15 seconds of absolute awesome. This game owns!

I like it more than Mount & Blade. The hit detection works way better and different inputs for attack types lets the combat flow a lot better instead of relying on mouse wiggles.

This game deserves way more attention. It is so good. The combat definitely feels a lot better than Mount and Blade. I really like Mount and Blade but the combat feels so floaty in that game and I hate relying on mouse gestures to get attacks to come out a certain way. I feel like there is just enough complexity in this game with the 3 different attacks and parrying/block system. My favorite thing is hitting dudes twice with my polearm and then while they are waiting to block my third attack I pull out a throwing axe and nail them right in the face. So satisfying.

And the lack of spawn of squad means you are pretty much forced to work with other people since you need a pile of team mates to move the objectives to the end zone. Charging out solo without support leads to really fast deaths. Really liking the melee system, the basic controls are easy to use but rewards things such as strategic blocking/dodging instead if spamming attacks. I sort of wish for maps they just remade all the maps from the original mod without adding in new levels. etalian fucked around with this message at Oct 20, 2012 around 13:33 |

I decided to actually look at the keybinds last night, and there is a button-press dodge option. I rebound from v to my thumb mouse button, and suddenly I'm much better at Man at Arms. Shields are for pussies dodge around like a man (make sure to scream while doing it).

Man I'm so bad at this game, I keep running around swinging like an rear end in a top hat hitting my team mates in the process. Maybe I'll just stick to throwing firebombs on the objectives.

I love the MAA hop, it seems like most players haven't realized yet that ducking, jumping and dodging are things in this game. Hopping forward at Vanguards confuses the poo poo out of most of them. That or ducking at the knees of one who's just mashing the left mouse button. Also I tried javelins and they've redeemed the archer class for me. The forward poke on them plus having the buckler makes you way more useful. Internet Friend fucked around with this message at Oct 20, 2012 around 16:22 |

A Proper Uppercut posted:So what's the best class/weapon combo to get used to combat? Because I really, really suck. As far as classes go, there isn't exactly any one that stands out to myself as being better than the rest. I'd say either the vanguard or knight as great classes for anyone just starting out because they can take some extra hits. Right now, because I notice a lot of people playing as one of the two previously mentioned classes, I've been sticking to maces for their extra damage versus heavy armor.

A Proper Uppercut posted:So what's the best class/weapon combo to get used to combat? Because I really, really suck. Well first I would suggest playing in third person (hit As far as class/weapon, I think people have the most problem dealing with reach weapons. So vanguard and the spear or glaive. I prefer the spear line myself but I love thrusts with just about every weapon anyway so a weapon that favors that attack is great in my book. I can easily take 2-3v1s with reach weapons because people just get in each other's ways so much that they have a lot of trouble closing. And in 1v1, with a little practice it becomes easy to keep 95% of people out. However, you need to be accurate with your thrusts (if you miss you will probably die) since what keeps me alive often is interrupting attacks by making sure my thrusts hit first. And you need to be able to parry. Also, you don't have to thrust AT people. If you're fighting someone and just trading parries, thrust away from them so they think you will miss and start their own attack. Then turn the attack INTO them. This is most useful against shield users. Megaflare fucked around with this message at Oct 20, 2012 around 17:53 |

I spent alot of time looking around deciding if it was worth it. The consensus is that its a fun game, but we will see how it plays out replayability-wise in time. I'll make a judgement after I get a couple of hours into it, but for now Im at least comfortable paying for a title to support small developers. But I agree to an outside person it seems to be priced on the high end. Even $20 would be more reasonable.
