Just got back from my first midnight launch. Time to disregard my responsibilities and stay up all night playing A Video Game.

So how nice does the game look on PS3 for anybody that actually has it? Those screen shots have me worried..

I am right on board with Parkingtigers for being super-excited about both this game and Liberation. Hell, fromo what I've seen Liberation could very well have a more interesting protagonist. And alligator wrestling!

Question about amazon delivery: My copy of rear end creed 3 is still in the "shipping soon" stage, but the delivery estimate is still for tomorrow. Is there any chance in hell that this thing will actually arrive tomorrow (I live in NY and ups.com says that they are still delivering to houses in my zipcode).

I managed to convince my captain to give me tomorrow off so that I could play this game. Now I just wish I had pre-ordered from Gamestop instead of BestBuy so I would have it already.

The screen shots posted earlier are from the xbox version, and also look like poor capture. There's also the possibility it is from a earlier build from the game. The best thing to do is to watch the video below, in HD, and decide for yourself (looks fantastic to me, even though I can tell it's another bad cature). And remember. the current generation of consoles are pretty old, so the graphics aren't going to be the best ever, but they shouldn't be too bad either http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bNgh5WiMbBM

JackDarko posted:So how nice does the game look on PS3 for anybody that actually has it? Those screen shots have me worried.. It looks gorgeous, as all the rear end Creed games have. It's just long distance textures on hills that look iffy at times. It's NOT a dealbreaker by any means. I couldn't tell you if that was a PS3 issue or a console issue though. Climbing up a ships mast in a raging storm ... just gorgeous. Those rolling seas are amazing. So many combat animations, every fight looks different. Changing seasons and weather ... yeah, I can live with some iffy textures on distant hills. Oh, forgot to mention, playing Nine Man Morris and Fayonala is ridiculously addictive. The most retro of retro boardgames, the experience is similar to playing poker or Liar's Dice in RDR, but this time with games that you've probably never heard of. I will win a game though. Yes I will, shut up.

So far so lame. I'm about 3 hours in and it already feels like it was made for my Mom and Dad. The controls are different and more user accessible in the 5TH INSTALLMENT of a game but OK. I am bored to death with the missions and they are all hand holds so far. I've never been able to find my own way to complete anything yet. ' Graphics are good for this gen obviously, nothing to really complain about, standard fare. Animations are top notch though and really give it a unique feel. As an avid lover of the series so far I'm disappointed at such a crappy start to a game. I've sat through countless cut scenes so far and have actually skipped a couple, only because some of the characters don't interest me at all. I'm especially peeved at the inability to fast walk or run indoors, specifically the mission bar you occupy for a lot of the time, I don't want to feel the floorboards under my toes I just want to go get the next mission drat it. Rant over I'll try again tomorrow.

Assassin's Creed games have always started slow. 1 had the entire 2012 intro, then Altair's intro, then a tutorial, then a bit at Masyaf, and THEN you finally went out on your first mission. 2 had the entire sequence in Florence with Ezio's family before he even put on the robes. Bro-hood had the escape from Rome, Desmond running around the villa looking for loving light switches, then Ezio's errands around the villa, then the attack, THEN you could finally dick around in Rome. Granted, the villa attack was pretty cool, but still. Revelations was admittedly a hell of a lot better in this regard, but it was still an hour or two before you were unleashed on Constantinople. That said, it's disappointing to hear that 3 continues this trend.

Anyone having constant freezing on the xbox? Every ~15 odd minutes the game will just lock up. Doesn't matter if its in a cutscene or not.

Yeah, the intro is going to be divisive.

Samurai Sanders posted:They must have serious focus group data that indicates that players will give up unless the beginning few hours of a game are very structured, even if they bought it full well knowing that it was an open world game. It's weird, but clearly focus groups generate weird results all the time. It actually makes a lot of sense to have a structured beginning. At its heart, it's a pretty convoluted game, and you need to know the basics before being set loose. More complicated stuff can wait until later, but this is a game where even running and walking are initially counter-intuitive.

Aside from the loving drunken / crazy Shovers in AC1, I never found the NPCs to be annoying. Didn't stop the bard mission in Revelations from being funny though.

I'm honestly more interested in that setting and main character. I kind of wish Ubi could have been gutsy enough to have a female protagonist star in one of their mainline AC games.

I'm actually glad they removed civilian targeting/killing. I never did it in any of the games anyway so it was nothing but a hindrance when chasing down some dude and trying to shank him but instead ending up double hidden-blading two old ladies in the face and desynching.

These moments would be better handled if it was done like the original Sands of Time handled your deaths, and your assassin narrates the sudden reversal of events in some fashion.

I remember some preview mentioning there's still a base managing aspect. So, do you still get to upgrade a base like Monteriggioni, buy new weapons and armor, paintings, buildings and so on? If so, is it as easy as before? All it took was really 1-2 hours of playing, unlock some basic poo poo and then you rolled in cash for the rest of the game. Is the economy better this time around?

I love this intro, and the better structure of it is a nice contrast to the sudden exposition dump they drop on the player at the end of AC II, where they thought a disembodied voice talking for 10 minutes made for a suitable denouement. Also, as regards your spoiler, I loving LOVE that part of it. Such a surprise, and I'm deliberately not advancing the story so I can relish it for longer. It may be divisive as you say, but I'm happy to say that from my side of the divide it's bloody great. I'm in favour of a tightly controlled first hour or so in open world games though. Once they open up players wander off to make their own fun, so that first linear part is the best time to set up the feel of the piece, to get the player into the same mindset as the writers and the designers.
