I think it really depends on what they mean by "Episode 7."

Mark Hamill is the only cast member who doesn't loving hate the franchise.

Even he doesn't seem that interested in doing anything more with it though, considering when they were making games with Luke (like Jedi Knight 2) he wouldn't voice him.

Supposedly they already had a ton of scripts or script outlines for the new TV series in the pipeline, but they didn't have any super interested networks involved. This seems like the type of thing which would push it over the edge, pair it with SHIELD's second season on ABC.

They were claiming something like 50 scripts written but were "waiting for the technology to catch up" so they could do it on TV. AKA, bullshit excuse.

Good money says there's a "no remakes/reboots" clause in the deal.

As terrible as the prequels were I'd be glad if we could just move on from them and get into some new stories.

Actually when they bought Marvel they cancelled production of the Sony-owned Spectacular Spider-Man TV series, so they could produce the (markedly inferior) Ultimate Spider-Man show, which they own 100%.

That's not quite what happened. Sony voluntarily ended Spectacular Spider-Man in a trade with Disney, where Sony gave up the rights to make Spider-Man cartoons but got an extension on Spider-Man movie rights.

Didn't he get into a car accident or something?

Yeah, apparently his back was all hosed up around that time and he couldn't do anything. He certainly doesn't hate Star Wars or his character considering he actually went ahead and did a cameo in an episode of The Clone Wars cartoon series.

Apparently current rumor is Oscar winning screenwriter Michael Arndt is on tap as screenwriter.

Also Zack Snyder got in front of any rumors already stating that he's not interested in directing.

More directors pre-empting themselves out of the running, Steven Spielberg and Quentin Tarantino.

More directors on possibility of Star Wars:
JJ Abrams has given a definite "no" saying that he's too busy with Star Trek. Guillermo del Toro has said he hasn't even been offered but if he was he'd be too busy.

The number of likely directors continues to be winnowed down. Brad Bird has announced on Twitter that he will not be directing.

Are you really saying that they should make it as bland and as possible? Why would you want that? Why even make the films at all?

Considering how Star Wars has been for the past 15 years bland would be a step up.

If we can avoid a film like Pirates 4 though, that'd be good.

The saddest thing about that movie is how On Stranger Tides was actually a pretty interesting book. The book is able to reconcile real history with its fiction and explain how there used to be magic but any more. Also a much more interesting version of the Fountain of Youth.

Something to remember about Lucas is that he hasn't exactly directed a ton of movies. After A New Hope he didn't direct anything until The Phantom Menace. Its not like he was exactly honing his skills between them.

Ok so how solid is this? One of my buddies still says nothing is confirmed and technically he is right I guess. It is just a couple news sources but not Disney saying this is true. Is it possible this could be bullshit?

While it isn't exactly confirmed Deadline isn't some random dude's blog and only report on things they strongly believe to be factual.

So has there really been no further OFFICIAL word on this since the info came out yesterday? Just seems weird as hell considering all the attention and how solid the source is. I hope this isn't JJ starting round 2 of "being evasive with information even past the point where it is appropriate or makes sense".

Disney has officially announced that Abrams is directing.

That article is kind of confusingly worded. Do they mean that they are canceling the Episode 2 and 3 rereleases or just that they won't do the OT?

The craziest thing about The Clone Wars cartoon was they got Liam Neeson to come back as ghost Qui Gon Jinn for an episode.

Not that crazy. It's possible and even likely that his contract had a clause requiring him to make a cameo appearance of some kind in future media. That sort of thing is fairly common in big franchises.

Nope, he did it solely because he wanted to. There was an interview with him around when the episode aired where he talked about how he enjoyed making Episode 1. The reason he didn't show up in Episode 3 is because he had hosed up his back right before they started filming.
