How long does it take for a snowboard to wear out? I've had a Ride Timeless for probably 6 years now. I don't even think they make it anymore. I can't say I've noticed any difference in how it feels over the years, but it did start out as a very stiff all-mountain board, so perhaps that gives it additional life?

I am probably out for Sunday as I have to work a party late Saturday, sadly, but if it snows midweek I'll head out then. It would be fun to potentially get one untracked run in before Thanksgiving. Hopefully we can start getting some action here so we get a decent base leading into Christmas (when I have relatives and friends visiting).

If by wear out you mean get floppy (softer) it varies based on construction and level of abuse. Obviously park boards tend to go faster than boards used exclusively for freeride, and if someone only hits rails they'll kill a board faster than a halfpipe rider. Usually what ruins boards are isolated incident kinds of things, like an edge tear out or cracking the core on a bad landing. Mine tend to last about 3 seasons. fffuuuu actually, really glad I'm not making 10 mile bike rides @ 230am in that weather

Stormrider (and others with a good experience with the recent Burton product line) what's your opinion on the Hero from last year? I'm picking up a new board this season for my son and REI has one in his size (low 150s) on clearance. He's an intermediate & progressing. He's going to be on the snowboard team at school this season so with comps & coaching I expect his skills (freestyle especially) to increase significantly. I'm leaning towards a Capita Indoor Survival more than the Hero, but figured checking it out wouldn't be bad.

I'm in the bay area but I work for the parent corporation of Heavenly/Northstar/Kirkwood (Vail) so I've got a pass there. Technically I'm the backshop lead at my local store but I've worked sales and other retail positions. If anyone in the southern SF bay area wants advice/help with ski gear choice or is just looking for a possible carpool partner please let me know.

(pro-tip: avoid school holiday weeks in the countries you're visiting) Are you all snowboarders? Park, piste, powder? Nendez, Laax, Les Arc/La Plagne are pretty good. Lots of awesome smaller places too but they tend to have more drag lifts than chairs which doesn't work well for snowboarders. just reminded me of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1gl_FTwQOeU

I assume that it shows the major weather models of an up coming storm? It's a spaghetti plot of the GFS ensemble, which just means that they take the GFS weather model (one of many models out there, and the newest) and then adjust each model run for various meteorological variables and see how it affects the storm. On this one they all agree, which in this case is good for CO since we are in the bullseye. A lot of times the lines on the plot will be all over the place.

Hahahaha supposedly Silverstar's cross country skiing opens in two days. Not if you look at the webcams, it doesn't. They better bloody hope they get some snow in the next two weeks before they're scheduled to open. They had a good covering a week or so ago, but I guess they got the same warm front we got in Vancouver because it's almost all gone except at the summit.

So I've been boarding for a few years now out in Arizona, which sucks (I'm in Flagstaff). I'm planning a big trip with some buddies to CO, as I now have a friend who lives in Westminster outside of Denver. If any CO goons could offer some advice as to where to go to have a few fun days on an epic mountain that would be awesome. For reference, I'll probably make two trips, one to teach my friend living in CO how to snowboard, and another to actually go snowboarding. I've heard Breckenridge is great for beginners through experts but are there better ski areas that are closer that would be good for learning?

I ride blacks/double blacks here, mostly in the trees last season though. I like to teach on greens (I'm not a teacher but I took a college class and had lessons 3 times a week for 7 weeks so I sorta know how to teach people), and we have such lovely greens that it's mind blowing so that could be cool. Even so, Snowbowl is fun and we're getting some new runs as of this year. Also we're blowing snow!

I think we really need to have a "Ski and Ride Summit and Eagle" section of the OP. But if you head up this way, as your Westminster friends might be wont to do, I would suggest staying in Summit Co. Specifically, Breck, Frisco, Dillon, or Silverthorne. Breck has a lot of nightlife, although it is pretty much full of every bro and ho you can imagine. You can catch a free bus to any of the lodging areas outside of Breck (and from any ski or lodging area to another for that matter), so you can party it up there then bus back to the condo. People like hating on the I-70 resorts for various reasons, but truth is that most have decent terrain around the hills. It's not the best terrain I've ever skied by any means, but the area is optimized for vacations and works pretty well for Denver. But there's plenty to do, if you stay in Summit there are three mountains to ski, overall it's not a bad gig. Grab a goon who rides those areas for a day and you'll learn the good spots that make these areas still legit. However if I were planning a trip I'd probably go to Telluride too. As far as resorts close to AZ, that's your best bet and it's just overall badass. Otherwise, if something compels you closer to Denver, I'd ski Summit. And there you're looking at Breck, Keystone and Abasin, with lodging and "the action" at Breck, or a bus ride away from Breck.

Please add me to CO. I'll be working at Beaver Creek with W TH F off and skiing pretty much every one of those days if anyone wants to do Vail, Breck, Keystone or BC. I prefer mid level glades but If there's enough powder will drop most stuff. I don't mind a day cruising blues and drinking either.
