900 bucks for the snowboard. What a steal! That video makes it look so hard to turn. I have to demo the board and skis. That probably is my goal for next year.

It's refreshing to see lovely advertising outside of the porn, gun, and "male enhancement" world. A bit disappointed there wasn't a stripper in a bikini shot.. On a serious note: are short skis easier / better than the skis I tried in the 90's?

Hahahahah I don't understand those skis at all. The longest one is 163 cm? That 125cm one they say is perfect in powder because of the binding? And it's only 90mm wide? You'd practically be loving snowshoeing in them. That site is honestly on par with the Knee Bindings website... I wonder if that dude got banned from epic ski yet for being a giant douche literally all the time. spwrozek posted:I have to demo the board and skis. That probably is my goal for next year. This, but only the skis since I can't snowboard for poo poo. I NEED to find a place that will let me demo these.

Ropes4u posted:It's refreshing to see lovely advertising outside of the porn, gun, and "male enhancement" world. A bit disappointed there wasn't a stripper in a bikini shot.. Are you talking snowblades? Because those are still pretty dumb. If you're talking not-204cm skis, then yes, they work pretty well now. For a general-purpose, intermediate level, not-powder ski, you can have something that comes up to your chin and it'll work pretty well. Even people on the FIS circuit were skiing under 200 until they changed the rules. Of course, the rules changes actually have people skiing faster than ever now, so apparently long, stiff, barely-any-sidecut skis are good for skiing at ludicrous speed. But I feel that once you can start doing blacks, you're best served by something wider with tip rocker at a minimum which requires a little extra length. Like 95-110 is really quite easy to manage. That way you can ski the mountain in all conditions and powder is easy and fun instead of kinda hard work and fun. That kind of ski is just so much better than your typical late-90's/early-00's inspired 80mm-ish waist, full camber ski. Those types of skis are still great to learn on and are great for really hard hardpack if you get a stiffer ski, but otherwise I dunno, there's no reason not to ski a modern ski at this point. Yeah, I went to see the reactions after Lindsey Vonn hurt her knee (I'm a sucker for terrible arguments on the internet and EpicSki is perfect for that) and the head of some company claiming they make bindings that don't cause knee injuries came in and started claiming "well I'm not saying that Lindsey Vonn WOULDN'T have blown out her knee if she was wearing Knee Bindings, but she WASN'T wearing Knee Bindings and look what happened" and then got rightly piled on by basically everybody for trying to self promote and hijack a thread about Lindsey Vonn's injury, then had to backtrack about all of his claims, then just basically went crazy and there was like a 20+ page argument between him and like every regular on that forum. It was actually among the funniest internet drama I've ever seen but holy hell I think I would kill myself if I ever felt the need to partake in any of their discussions.

Eejit posted:Gypsys are fully rockered, you don't want that unless you only ski pow at Baker. They look like bananas when you lay them on the ground. The Keeper is what you're looking for. I have heard that Icelantics are pretty damp (opposite of lively) but I haven't skied them myself. Vanillaslimfast seems to like his, although I think he's on Nomads or Pilgrims. They seem pretty stable and a good amount of people like them, plus you can buy CO if you buy Icelantic. I'm on the non-rockered version of the Nomads with the softer core (because I don't have the body mass to flex most skis properly otherwise). Been on them for a few seasons and I love em What surprised me was how easily I could still crank big race turns on then despite the width underfoot, and I can still transfer edge to edge quickly And they will charge through just about anything. Not bad for a one-ski quiver

I've picked up some work for a few months in the snow down here in Australia starting mid June. I'm going to be a lift operator, which more or less sounds like shitkicker, which is fine ![]() Has anyone done this sort of work before and has good advice for me? I'm looking into gear at the moment so I can stay dry and warm all day, and to be honest I'm out of my depth and applying the rules I apply to my motorcycle gear (buy goretex stuff that dries easily). My main concern is boots for all day in slush and mud, was looking at these http://www.winterfootwear.com/p2502...snow_boots.html What would everyone recommend as essential kit? Ideal brands of thermals? My outer layer will be a uniform so base/mid layer recommendations galore please. (Although I'll need at least one set of outers for when I'm not working)

Any advice on Big Sky and Moonlight Basin? I'm looking into lodging for our trip next year. I've never been to either, we've always gone to Breck / Vail. They are connected by a lift, correct? Any difficulty from going to one or the other? I found some places to stay on the Moonlight side that look pretty good, and if it is easy to access both ski areas I'll probably go with the condos I found.

I'm at Whistler this weekend, and yesterday my husband was looking at the webcams, then shows the one of Tube Town to me and goes "IS THAT WHAT I THINK IT IS?" and sure enough there's a little black bear wandering through tube town. So now my husband's convinced he's going to be eaten by a bear when he goes on the slopes. Which led to "well Australia might have poisonous snakes but THEY DONT EAT YOU WHEN YOU SKI"

Rainbow colored jumps are a fixture in every terrain park, jibbing off little snow mounds is the norm, keep an eye out for stumps to avoid core shots, and now you can get eaten halfway down the slopes by a monster.

And seeing as a bear did try to eat a person last week in Ontario, it's become harder to convince him otherwise. I told him if he looks carefully he might see one from the chairlift on the way up so he's happy, since he would enjoy seeing one from that distance.
