We are legion.

So last year there was a thread for international food and candy exchange. I managed to get some impossible to find Japanese candy for my boyfriend for Christmas and some bitchin' Finnish chocolate for myself and in return, sent a bunch of cinnamon stuff and Reese's overseas.

Let's get this going again! Here's how this works:

Offer to Exchange

Do you have a regional specialty, something people love and can't get anywhere else? Offer it up!

Post what you want in return! Are you looking for Green Tea Kit Kats from Japan? Mexican Coca-Cola? Ask, see if there's a goon who wants to trade with you!

Offer to compensate

International shipping isn't cheap, and unless a goon is feeling particularly generous, you need to be prepared to cough up $10-$50 for international shipping as well as the cost of your item.

International and Domestic Shipping

If you're in the US, you can send a flat-rate envelope packed to the gills (up to 5 pounds international, 70 pounds domestic) for $15 international/$5 domestic. A medium flat rate (up to 15 pounds int.) is $45 international. Keep these costs in mind before you exchange - don't screw your exchangee on shipping, try to keep the cost of goods and shipping ratio fair on both sides.

Now, onto the good stuff:

What I have for exchange:

I'm local to the Koreantown area of Gwinnett County, Georgia. Our Assi is bigger than LA's Assi. I've got a lot of Southeast regional goodies as well as a pretty decent selection of Korean snack foods, Japanese candy, and Russian chocolate ( ) available at my disposal, as well as your standard American fare (Pop Tarts in weird flavors like Pumpkin Pie, Cinnamon stuff, Jelly Belly Jelly Beans, Reese's, whatever).

My local grocery also carries the full line of TastyKake products (and I think they're BOGO free this week).

What I want:

I need Wata Gum and Wata Pachi from Japan. My boyfriend loves cotton candy that turns into other stuff (especially gum). Airheads used to make it in the US but they stopped. I don't want the cola flavored wata gum but the sour Lemon wata gum and both the grape and the melon wata pachi

(edit)

Don't abandon your requests/be proactive!

I've noticed there's been a few people just posting what they want and then disappearing. If it's taken to PMs, cool, but if someone replies to you in the thread or posts from the country you'd like goods from, your interests are better served by actually replying/starting a conversation.

Something I've really been thinking about since I left Japan in 2008 was Lays Tako Yakitei puff balls.

I don't remember the package looking like this but it's gotta be the same chip. That and I love squid jerky. It's a shame those "Crab" sticks with mayonaise they sell at 7-11 can't be shipped.

http://www.fritolay.co.jp/ourbrands...itei/index.html

I can offer any old American snack.

edit: I'd send out two boxes if someone could get what I asked for and also if any Euro goons have some goods to share and haven't had any American poo poo. Are you able to send beef jerky overseas?

It's country by country. There's a lot of mad cow fear in Europe but generally US beef is safe and it's okay to export because we haven't had any mad cow outbreaks. I know it's virtually impossible to send most things to Italy because they have extraordinarily protectionist import laws.

You can't legally send meat products such as jerky from outside EU into EU, unless the source is EU-certified. Which few manufacturers are, or would ever bother. Of course it has little to do with mad cow disease, and a lot to do with protectionism. The other year I had another goon send me Big Jim's jerky , but labelled it with generic "snack foods" on the box.

Yeah, hello? I lost my frog.

I'm in Sweden, and I can offer Swedish salty liquorice, salmiak liquorice, delicious Christmas soda, glögg extract and even the dreaded surströmming.

Salty liquorice and salmiak liquorice is one of the most popular types of candy in Northern Europe.

It's coated in salt and ammonium chloride (yum!) and burns your tongue in a delicious way.

Julmust (Christmas Brew) is a seasonal soda that outsells Coca Cola every Christmas. It's got a secret recipe, but is flavored with caramel, hops and malt.

Messmör is a sandwich spread made from butter and whey. It's sort of a Nordic dulce de leche.

Glögg is a traditional winter drink. Mulled wine with raisins and almonds. You can buy it pre-mixed or make your own with wine, cloves, cardamom, cinnamon, ginger and bitter orange peel or you can buy a bottle of spicy tincture and mix with a bottle of wine.

Kalles Kaviar is a sandwich spread made from codfish roe and potatoes. Delicious on an egg sandwich.

Surströmming is fermented herring that keeps fermenting in the can. That's why it's bulging in a threatening way. Open the can outdoors or under water, because it will squirt herring juice that smells like death. The odor of the fish itself is terrible, but the taste is mild and salty. It's a Northern speciality, usually served on flatbread with chopped red onion, boiled potato and sour cream.

Sundbybergs pendeltågsstation is a train station close to Stockholm City. Since it's made of concrete and serves thousands of passengers every day, it can't be shipped and you have to visit wonderful Sweden to see it.

I'm interested in any local specialties that you rarely see exported or even in other states in the US. Sweets, canned stuff, anything that is legal and safe to ship!

I'd love to get my hands on some of that fermented herring and Christmas soda. A question about that soda, is it like Malta Goya? Malta Goya is a Mexican soda that's almost unfermented beer, very sweet and has an almost syrupy consistency.

As for things I am after, from America:

Big Texas Cinnamon Roll http://www.cloverhill.com/danish.html

These vending machine pastries were my source of breakfast in New York, LA and Vegas during a two week holiday.

Other than that, jerky of all varieties (flavours and animals). Might be other things, but I can't think of any right now (at least not that I can't pick up at one of the imported candy places or Amazon).

From Russia and/or Eastern Europe:

Medovnik, or whatever the local name is for the multi layered honey cake. That stuff is amazing. Also, caviar flavoured crisps.

It's a bit difficult to describe. It tastes like something of a cross between Root Beer and Dr. Pepper, only not really, and it foams like beer. I guess there's like hints of a lager-like malty tang to it as well, although it's mostly just very sweet (like most sodas). It's pretty much like beer or ale in consistency, and not at all like syrup.

HEY, WHAT'S HAPPENING?

I would love to have anything on that Swedish list.

I can offer British food. Most typical British food isn't shippable (like Roasts and Puddings and such) but take a look at these beauties:

Steak and Kidney Pudding

Lovely, lovely steak and kidney meat in a suet pastry. Boil it in its tin. Very indulgent, absolutely bad for you, better than it sounds. Not to be confused with steak and kidney pie, which looks like this:

Keep in mind these are both 'instant' versions so that they are shippable, so aren't as nice as they could be. Still quite tasty!

Black Pudding

Delicious. Classic breakfast food (along with bacon, eggs, fried bread, and beans), cook them through them eat them like a man, you wuss. Made from blood, mostly. If I ship this one internationally you probably want to cook it hard throughout, what with it being made of blood and should probably be refrigerated. I doubt it would do you any harm if sent by airmail within Europe, but caveat emptor. Airmailing it further afield and it would probably be inedible and/or poisonous by the time it gets to you - This means you, US/Aus.

There are also a wealth of classic British crisps/snacks which people tend to quite like and think of as British:

Monster Munch

The D&D UK thread would have me sent to the gulags if I didn't offer these. They come in pickled onion flavour, and others I think, but pickled onion is the best flavour and is what I am offering.

Transform-a-snack

Like Monster Munch (cheap and nasty), but you can...transform them? And they are spicy. Odd. Reminiscent of buying from nasty little corner shops in the 90s. I'll offer these as well.

I'll probably think of some other stuff I could offer. I'm looking for Scandinavian food; good strong dark ales from around the globe; or anything else you think I might find interesting! Will ship internationally.

"Cock'n'Balls" is a pinnacle of modern medicine.

I would do anything, anything, to have a can of surströmming. I have been searching for months to find some way to ship a can to me.

I live in Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas, US. Aside from salsas or local tex-mex dishes, I'm not really sure of anything that's unique to my area. Pretty much everything I've had to eat here would be easily obtainable in any major metropolitan area in the US, but if you would be interested in Texas salsas, chilis, or anything else you can think of, and can find a way to get me a can of surströmming I'd be in your eternal debt.

Edit:

I forgot to specify, if you don't want to exchange I would have no problem compensating you for the goods and the shipping. Just PM me!

I'm in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA and can get cans of Cincinnati Style Chili

It's the best Chili in the world and your Texas style bullshit is bullshit. You can put this poo poo over spaghetti then put some mild cheddar on top with some onions (and beans if you want), put this poo poo on a hotdog that is also on a bun and put onions (and mustard if you're weird) on that bitch. Or pour it over some cream cheese, throw some cheddar on top and dip tortilla chips in that bad boy.

I can get you GoldStar if you want, but that's stupid and you should ask for Skyline Chili.

Unfortunately I'm a Vegetarian now so I can't eat it anymore, I've found a way to make some with fake ground beef, but it's just not the same.
