Whenever I eat indian food at home I just instinctively use my hands, but I also end up mashing everything on my plate together with the rice which is something I've been doing since I was a kid. Whenever my mom would hand me a plate I'd ask her to mix everything together for me (poor english translation because I can't write tamil and speak some bastardized form of it: "ellama cood-e-eh pessengee way"). The men in my family love slurping leftover rasam straight from the plate too.  Of course, I use cutlery when we go out for indian food. Unless we're in a city with a Saravana Bhavaan.
