I have DM'ed D&D campaigns that resulted in fist fights. I once had a deck of M:TG cards thrown at me because of an argument over interrupts vs. instants. I GM'ed many Vampire: The Masquerade games. Now I earn a living as a pit boss in a casino: It all led up to this career. Games are games...procedure is procedure. Rules are rules. Being a huge lawyering nerd can pay off...poorly. Still, it has definitely prepared me for my casino job. The aspy is strong in me. freezingprocess fucked around with this message at 12:21 on Nov 14, 2012 |

I was playing D&D when a fist fight broke out because the XP awarded from killing a NPC was docked because technically the NPC was pushed off of a cliff and died from the fall and not the fighting skill of the PC that made it so. It was such a nerdy thing to see unfold that I still think about it 20 years later. Such machismo from otherwise "good friends" fighting over imaginary concepts. Yet, there I was in the middle of it all - actually ashamed (for the first time) of playing a game that I had been teased about so many times before. Spergy short story #2: I once got in a bar fight with a dental student that called me retarded for believing in satanic bullshit- I was discussing endosymbiotic theory with someone and it really made the dental student upset. Edit: and yes, I actually discussed mitochondria and endosymbiotic theory in a bar...that should stand alone on its own. freezingprocess fucked around with this message at 13:36 on Jun 11, 2013 |

Splicer posted:That's a bullshit call, the XP reward is supposed to be for overcoming the obstacle, whether it be shoving them off a cliff, punching them to death, or talking them into going away. I agree. Also, XP should be more about completing objectives and not combat encounters. However, some people have a very video game RPG mentality when it comes to pen and paper games. End of sperg.
