![]() After his brush with an alien race dedicated to eradicating all humans, a malicious parasitic epidemic, and other various threats during his time in Halo: Combat Evolved, Master Chief escaped and destroyed Halo Installation 04, concluding the game saying "I think we're just getting started." Well, consider that an understatement; the Covenant have discovered Earth, and now the UNSC must prevent them from glassing the planet and annihilating the entire human race. How This LP Will Be Done This thread will have two playthroughs going on: One playthrough will be done on Normal difficulty for the sake of showing and explaining the game and its mechanics (yes, mechanics besides shooting and moving forward). The other playthrough will be on Legendary, the highest difficulty, for the sake of showing off how frustratingly ridiculous this game can really get, and how it affects the judgment and performance of the players. My friend, ClumsyNutcase (right screen), will be assisting me with playing through the game on this dreaded abhorrent chasm of relentless torment we call a difficulty level. UNSC Major Characters - Master Chief Petty Officer John-117 - Our main protagonist. The last living soldier from the Spartan II program. The Master Chief is pretty much just a merciless, soulless, killing machine who only exists to take on suicidal tasks. The Spartans are highly trained elite soldiers clad in armor equipped with energy shielding, - Cortana - A UNSC artificial intelligence. Has served as Master Chief's partner through various missions.Cortana pretty much lives inside Master Chief's helmet. In the previous game, Master Chief was assigned to keep Cortana from falling into enemy hands. Cortana holds an unprecedented amount of data pertaining to Halo as well as UNSC intelligence, such as weapon research, post deployment, and of course, the location of Earth. - Sergeant Major Avery Junior Johnson - A highly trained Marine and overall badass.Johnson will be accompanying the Master Chief on a few missions in this game. Johnson was highly regarded among fans during his few brief stints in Halo: Combat Evolved, and because of that, even after being blatantly killed in the first game, he was brought back for no other reason, and it never undergoes any further investigation (as far as the video games go). All we need to know is that he is incredibly helpful in battle. (It possibly has something to do with him being impervious to all damage, but I'm not sure) - Lieutenant Commander Miranda Keyes - Commanding Officer of UNSC In Amber Clad.Daughter of Captain Jacob Keyes (deceased) and Doctor Elizabeth Halsey. After the death of her father in Combat Evolved, Miranda makes her first appearance in Halo 2, being promoted to the commander of the In Amber Clad, which will be Master Chief's limousine of space travel in this game. She is impervious to all damage in gameplay as well, but she only appears once, so she's not as cool. Then again, this girl is destined for some great things which we will get to later. Covenant Major Characters Thel was an elite in charge of the entire Covenant's expedition to Installation 04, specifically titled the "Supreme Commander". Because of the Master Chief destroying the ring in the previous game, Thel is burdened with the blame for its destruction, branded a heretic, and is subsequently stripped of his rank, his uniform, and his dignity. The Covenant Council decided to have him executed, but the prophet of Truth decided to give him a new rank instead, making him the next Arbiter. - Rtas 'Vadumee - The ship commander.'Vadumee is an Ultra-ranked Elite and the Covenant Special Operations Ship Master. 'Vadumee often displays great concern for soldiers under his command, and even urges Grunts to get behind elites if necessary. During the events of the first Halo game, the ship master was in charge of a Spec Ops investigation of the fallen ship, Infinite Succor. There, the platoon encountered The Flood for the first time. During the encounter, his second in command became infected, and the former soldier managed to sever 'Vadumee's left mandibles in their engagement. 'Vadumee lost all his soldiers in the platoon during the investigation, but managed to eradicate the rest of the attacking Flood by sending the Infinite Succor on a slipstream course into the nearest sun. Like Johnson, 'Vadumee is also impervious to all damage, and is a very helpful ally for the small amount of time he's around. - The Prophets Of Truth, Mercy, and Regret - The highest ranking masters of the Covenant. These three prophets lead all of the Covenant with a very religion-oriented system and promises of salvation. In this game, The Prophet Of Regret has lead a Covenant fleet to Earth. Oddly, the prophets have no idea that Earth is their enemies' home world; meaning the prophet didn't come to Earth for human genocide, but for something else... But what? UNSC Weapons - BR55 Battle RifleRate Of Fire: 2.6 shots (8 rounds) per second Reload Time: 1.7 seconds (1.17 seconds with fast-reload glitch) Melee Time: 0.9 seconds (0.6 seconds if done repeatedly) Range: Short to Long Scope: X2 Head Shot: Yes Dual-Wield: No Special Notes: This is the most preferred default weapon in the game. Due to its wide variety of range and being a head shot weapon, it is very handy in just about any situation. - M7 Submachine GunRate Of Fire: 16 rounds per second Reload Time: 1.45 seconds (3.9 seconds if dual-wielding. 1.24 seconds with fast-reload glitch) Melee Time: 0.8 seconds (0.6 seconds if done repeatedly) Range: Short Scope: None Head Shot: No Dual-Wield: Yes Special Notes: Only really helpful when being duel-weld. Messes with your aim. - M6C MagnumRate Of Fire: 6 rounds per second Reload Time: 1.6 seconds (3.4 seconds if dual-wielding. 1.05 seconds with fast-reload glitch) Melee Time: 0.9 seconds (0.6 seconds if done repeatedly) Range: Short to Medium Scope: None Head Shot: Yes Dual-Wield: Yes Special Notes: Definitely not as useful as the Pistol from Halo: CE, but it can still be used well when duel-weld with a Plasma Pistol. - SRS99C-S2 AMB Sniper RifleRate Of Fire: 2 rounds per second Reload Time: 2.06 seconds (1.88 seconds with fast-reload glitch) Melee Time: 1.36 seconds (0.89 seconds if done repeatedly) Range: Long Scope: X5 to X10 Head Shot: Yes Dual-Wield: No Special Notes: It's a Sniper Rifle, therefore it's quintessential to accomplishment. - M90 CAWS Mark II ShotgunRate Of Fire: 1 round per second Reload Time: 0.67 seconds per shell Melee Time: 0.89 seconds (0.48 seconds if done repeatedly) Range: Short Scope: None Head Shot: No Dual-Wield: No Special Notes: When I say short, I really mean it. - M19 SSM Rocket LauncherRate Of Fire: 2 rounds per second Reload Time: 3.87 seconds (2.25 seconds with fast-reload glitch) Melee Time: 1.1 seconds Range: Medium to Long Scope: X2 Head Shot: No Dual-Wield: No Special Notes: Homes in on vehicles and turrets. Covenant Weapons - Type-25 Directed Plasma Energy PistolRate Of Fire: 8 normal shots per second. 0.4 charged shots per second Cooldown Time: 2 seconds Melee Time: 0.9 seconds (0.6 seconds if done repeatedly) Range: Short to Medium Scope: None Head Shot: No Dual-Wield: Yes Special Notes: Sometimes, the charged up shot homes in a bit too well. - Type-25 Directed Plasma Energy RifleRate Of Fire: 8 shots per second (12 shots per second if pressed repeatedly fast enough) Cooldown Time: 2.6 seconds Melee Time: 0.9 second (0.64 seconds if done repeatedly) Range: Short to Medium Scope: None Head Shot: No Dual-Wield: Yes Special Notes: Good for taking down energy shielding. Best to dual-wield with SMG. - Type-33 NeedlerRate Of Fire: 8 shots per second (12 shots per second if pressed repeatedly fast enough) Reload Time: 1.67 seconds (1.11 seconds with fast-reload glitch) Melee Time: 1.02 seconds Range: Short to Medium Scope: None Head Shot: No Dual-Wield: Yes Special Notes: It fires pink junk that explodes. - Type-50 Particle Beam RifleRate Of Fire: 3 shots per second (but will burn up after 2) Cooldown Time: 3.02 seconds Melee Time: 0.73 seconds Range: Long Scope: X5 to X10 Head Shot: Yes Dual-Wield: No Special Note: An alien sniper rifle. Completely evil in the wrong hands. - Type-1 Energy SwordMelee Time: 0.42 seconds Range: Short Scope: None Dual-Wield: No Special Note: Swords are very sharp. - Type-51 Covenant CarbineRate Of Fire: 4.67 shots per second Reload Time: 1.87 seconds (1.21 seconds with fast-reload glitch) Range: Short to Long Scope: X2 Head Shot: Yes Dual-Wield: No Special Note: If you can't find a Battle Rifle, this gun will be your next best bet. I'll also be watching this, I played the first one and really, really liked it, but never got around the following ones for a number of reasons. I think when Halo 2 first launched it was only for Xbox? And the release for PC was much later? Please correct me if I'm wrong

Oh, Halo. As for Sergeant Johnson, there actually as a detailed account of his survival of Halo-- only it was in the novels that were sold after the release of Halo: CE. Does such trivia count as spoilers (or obnoxious), or would you mind if I point them out here and there?

Man, did I ever play the poo poo out of Halo 2 as a kid. In retrospect, it's probably my least favorite, but Halo was the first FPS that I really got into so I was super loving excited about this one. Add in the fact that it had online multiplayer, and it was the best thing in the world. Of course, I ended up getting banned from multiplayer because I forgot to turn off my flying Warthog hack. Totally worth it.

Earthdef, why did you not mount close defense guns. You are literally the worst. Edit: also wait, if Cortana is in Master Chief's head, who is firing Cairo's gun(s)? ![]() Outskirts ![]() Time to meet the absolute worst obstacle in the game: Sniper Alley! On Legendary, one shot from the Beam Rifle is instant death, no questions asked, and this is the level where they're the most prevalent in. As a matter of fact, snipers anywhere in this game are an absolute pain, and this level is just the beginning. Well, enjoy our suffering!

Veloxyll posted:At least one of them is australian. One is Australian, one Mexican, one Southern, and pretty much the rest of them have "neutral" accents. Glitch explanation time! A BXR implies what it implies; B, X, and R pushed in that order (in regular Xbox controls). Basically, there's a glitch in the game where you can press X right after pressing B in order to cancel your melee attack. Because the melee gets canceled, you can either shoot or do another melee without having to wait for the melee animation to finish. So, in online multiplayer, if you were to melee someone with a Battle Rifle, and press X then R immediately after the melee makes contact, you instantly kill your opponent, provided they don't have any extra shielding. BXR doesn't work very well in Campaign due to the fact that the shielding on a Covenant Elite is exponentially larger than an Xbox Live player's. Where it would take 4 shots to the head with a Battle Rifle to take out an enemy's shields and kill them in multiplayer, the average Elite in Campaign would take about 6 to 8 shots. Now, a Double Shot is when you press RRX with a Battle Rifle at a certain speed, which exploits a glitch that allows another Battle Rifle shot to be immediately fired after the first one. Unfortunately, after doing the glitch, the game reloads your weapon (without the reloading animation) and leaves you temporarily helpless. (Kinda like this) Here's where we get around that. A Quad Shot is when you change to your secondary weapon then right back to your Battle Rifle to do the Double Shot again. So basically it would be RRX-YY-RRX (Like here) KKoserYaks fucked around with this message at Nov 24, 2012 around 08:22 |

Many many moons ago, my best friend was moving away from our hometown. This was just before High School started for me, and right around the release of Halo 3. Either before he left or on one of his first visits since moving, he told me of "Gamer Fuel" (we still refuse to call it game fuel)and how terrible it was, telling me to drink it. He even went so far as to buy me a bottle of it, and demanded I drink it. On that day I made a promise to never drink it, and to that day, I have kept that promise.![]() Having been sitting on my bookshelf for years now, the bottle has continued to morph and become disfigured. ![]() Oh, and in case anyone was curious:

Drink it. Do it. You bastard I will never be able to sleep at night now because I will be wondering what'll happen if somebody DID drink Gamer Fuel that old. I was gonna drink one for the Halo 4 release but completely forgot and now the magic is gone. ![]() As for the LP, not gonna lie I watched the first video and got kinda turned off at how much stuff you didn't show. You did really well at the start being cinematic and trying to show off the game, but then you did stuff like miss the giant ship flying by and walk straight ahead practicing your double shot instead of looking at the huge loving space gun that's firing into a space battle while you're standing on part of its recoil mechanism.

I'm glad to see a Let's Play of this game. I played the original way back when and was completely underwhelmed. Maybe because I only played the single player, but I never saw what the fuss was all about. The second half of the game with its endlessly repeating corridors and the incredibly annoying potato people simply weren't fun for me. That one loving circular room with an open corridor around it and structures in the middle will haunt my gaming nightmares forever after having to run through copy/pasted versions of it a thousand times .
