The internet is lighting up with rumors that the nighttime blast was the work of a CIA Predator drone that for unclear reasons had been programmed to take out two Indianapolis-based US military resource and payroll offices. Only the drone’s missiles deviated from their flight courses, striking the homes off of Fieldfare Way, instead.

November 13th - Homeowner at center of explosion. It is discovered the home owner is having serious financial issues. She told Eyewitness News, after her divorce, her house was up for sale, but she decided to take it off the market and worked extra hours and two jobs to keep it and make the mortgage payments.

Shirley had also tried to sell the house last summer, valued at $230,000, earlier this year after she and her now ex-husband had filed for bankruptcy for $260,000, $30,000 more then the house was worth..

quote:

Among their liabilities were two mortgages on the Fieldfare Way house, on which they owed a total of $225,794. The house's value was listed as $230,000, according to court records.

The short sale was going to be for around $149,000, but a source said the bank wanted $30,000 cash on top of the short sale price to accept the short sale agreement.

November 16th - Explosion damage estimate: $4.4 million. 86 homes are damaged and 32 of those homes foundation shifted by the explosion and have to be torn down automatically because its unsafe.

November 19th - Police: House explosion was not an accident

quote:

Fox59 News has learned that Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department homicide detectives have determined that the Nov. 10 explosion at the Richmond Hill subdivision was an intentional act. “A criminal homicide investigation” is how police are referring to the probe. The Indianapolis Fire Department still considers this a fire investigation. Richmond Hill residents will be advised of the decision Monday during a 6 p.m. meeting at Southport Presbyterian Church.

A bunch of locals have suggested the boyfriend (Mark Leonard) was a con artist who has tried insurance scams in the past. Two weeks before the explosion there were posts on a dating website that said he has a reputation for using people for money, that he was working with another guy who ditched a woman after her insurance check came in and that they still owe her money, that he would take ladies to casinos and pretend his wallet was stolen so his dates would give him more cash to gamble, etc. That page has been removed but it is still on google cache from November 3rd. link to google cache http://webcache.googleusercontent.c...n&ct=clnk&gl=us

quote:

"Mark is truly a freak. He uses date sites to scam woman out of money, and leverage what credit you may have. Him and his friends are all about what they can con still and take of any value, just to line there pockets. They have nothing, This one avoid at all cost .. He will cost you lots of debt."

"If you dont give him money he leaves you at the casino".

"WOW love this site. This guy is a real rear end in a top hat. First date took me to a casino and thought i was going to give him money to gamble away. Get a job loser".

"Ladies this fucker is nothing but a con man he is what you call a date site con artist. I wish this site was around be for my mother met this fucker. He loving took all she had. Nice fun caring man my loving rear end."

November 19th - There were posts on Facebook from a neighbor about seeing appliances and furniture being removed from the house in the week before the explosion, now the investigators are focusing on finding these things in the rubble.

More good news for the duo--they were evidently able to get their two Harley Davidsons out of the garage not long before boom-boom. They are one lucky couple. This has not been confirmed by the media or the police at this time.

Also news has come out that during the short sale of the home there was photos taken of the inside of the home. Law enforcement is looking to see what is missing in debris left from the explosion using those photos.

November 20th - 2 in custody in connection to explosion

quote:

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH/WANE) - WISH-TV in Indianapolis is reporting that two people have been taken into custody in connection to the south side explosion that killed two people on Nov. 10.

It wasn't immediately clear who was taken into custody and whether they'll ultimately be arrested or charged. The people were taken into custody at a mobile home community on the southwest side of Indianapolis. When Chopper 8 flew over the scene, officers could be seen taking items from the home.

http://www.wane.com/dpp/news/indian...on-to-explosion

This keeps getting more interesting, the night of the explosion neighbors said they saw a white van leave the home. Well the boyfriend of the home owner happens to own and white van and the police have said they have found his white van and taken it it evidence. Word has gotten out that the two taken into custody have connections with the boyfriend and some property of the home owner was found inside the trailer.

November 21 - Authorities question two men, serve search warrants in explosion identified. The two men taken into custody and questioned knew the boyfriend(Mark Leonard). One was his brother Bob Leonard, and the other was Mark Leonard's friend. The police and federal agents are getting closer to figuring out all the events that happen prior to the home explosion.

November 21 - 29 homes damaged in Indianapolis explosion to be demolished. Why are they being torn down? Here is some simple goon explanations why they are tearing them down.

Aggressive pricing posted:

But they MIGHT be damaged enough to fail at some point in the indeterminate future which would lead to a lawsuit worth more than the cost of the house, I'm sure someone with a calculator figured this out.

Cryptic Edge posted:

If they are moved on the foundation they have to be torn down because you can't set it back on the foundation. It's that or the house is literally a collapsing hazard. Meaning the house could loving fall down on the residents without warning.

Lolie posted:

Just because the homes look OK doesn't mean their structural integrity is sound. You can't see from the photos what damage has been done to load bearing walls, the foundations or any of the important but usually invisible things which make a dwelling safe to inhabit. Shock waves can cause a lot of damage which isn't visible at first glance and it's often irreparable.

Seat belts, air bags and child restraints which have been in car accidents often look undamaged - you're still supposed to replace them because they're designed to take that stress only once.

Decemember 21 - Homeowner, two others to face more than 100 charges in south side blast.

quote:

Homeowner Moncy Shirley and her boyfriend, Mark Leonard, and his brother, Bobby Leonard, Jr., were arrested by federal agents on the south side Friday morning.

All three suspects are charged with two counts of felony murder, one count of conspiracy to commit arson, 12 counts of arson, Class A felony, and 33 counts of arson, a Class B felony. Both Mark Leonard and Shirley are each charged with an additional count of conspiracy to commit arson.

Authorities determined the home was filled with natural gas for six to eight hours prior to the explosion at 11 p.m. Investigators believe a microwave, which can be set on a timer, was the source of ignition, stating it “exploded from the inside out.”

December 21 - The case qualifies for the death penalty or life without parole due to multiple deaths.

Curry said Shirley had recently increased the insurance coverage on her house to $300,000. The trio was hoping to cash in the insurance payments to pay off their sizeable debt. Curry said Robert Leonard took personal items, including photographs and financial documents, out of the house prior to the explosion.

In addition to two counts of felony murder, each of the defendants was charged with one count of conspiracy to commit arson, a Class A felony; 12 counts of arson, a Class A felony; and 33 counts of arson, a Class B felony.

Also, Shirley and Mark Leonard were each charged with an additional count of conspiracy to commit arson, a Class B felony.

The case qualifies for the death penalty or life without parole due to multiple deaths, authorities said.

A meth lab was ruled out. I live in Indiana and have been following this since it happened. Here's the most recent article from today: http://www.indystar.com/article/201...ast?odyssey=tab

It seems like the homeowner may have had a faulty furnace and may have messed with it to "fix" it prior to the explosion. Also, the 12 year old girl said she smelled gas in the garage, but since the mom and boyfriend didn't smell it, they mostly ignored her.

I forgot to mention the explosion was picked up by earthquake sensors too.

quote:

The explosion late Saturday that killed two people and damaged 80 homes on Indianapolis’ Southeastside was so strong it was detected on scientists’ earthquake sensors miles from the scene.

“We’re still sorting through the data . . . but it’s likely we picked up the sound wave, the boom triggered by the explosion,” said Michael Hamburger, a professor of geological sciences at Indiana University.

Hamburger cautioned that the above-ground blast late Saturday night can’t be compared to a typical underground earthquake, so there isn’t a Richter-scale number to measure the rumble that shook dishes and rattled picture frames miles from the blast site.

Nonetheless, the closest earthquake sensor to the blast — almost 30 miles away at Martinsville in Morgan County — detected a rumble in the ground at 11:08 p.m.
