Stone Temple Pilots House of Blues 1999. It was their first major performance since the band split for a few years. Scott Weiland was due in court the very next day for sentencing (and thus spending almost a year in jail). The show is arguably one of their best and most of the performance can be found on youtube, but here is my personal favorite. The Prodigy's "Worlds on Fire" live show. The DVD is filmed so well and really captures the energy of the music. I saw this in a cinema a couple of months ago and now I'm getting to actually see it live this Friday. Beyond excited! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a93nPSp17Yw Wolves in the Throne Room's live performance at Roadburn in 2009 is pretty great too. It's not over done and gives a great impression of what their live show is like. http://vimeo.com/9159732 Lastly, Devin Townsend's "By a Thread" DVD set is amazing for all the reasons above. Actually, any of Devin's live stuff is great because it's just a guy having the time of his life and it's so inspiring and uplifting to see it. The musicianship is also amazing, especially on the Deconstruction segment of the FOUR DVD SET! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eOCBetzMBmw

This is currently my favorite music video because it's from a show I visited last Thursday. Meshuggah came to Hamburg and some cool dude uploaded 40 minutes of footage in 1080p. This is part 2, featuring Bleed and New Millenium Cyanide Christ. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RvPIWmiEjL4 And there is always Rammstein's Bück dich and the famous fake penis. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SJvA2JdJZHo

Have you seen their "Alive" DVD? Rammstein too, though a concert on TV fails to compare to the live experience. If anything, watch the live shows before actually seeing them live, that way there's a great feeling of "Hey, they just did exactly what they did on the DVD and it's still awesome!"

Yeah, I've seen Alive. I thought it was great, at least the contents. However I didn't like how they took bits of different shows and put the interviews between them, I would have preferred seeing a whole show in one piece. Hamburg Markthalle was the first time I saw them live. They played Minds Mirrors, In Death-Is Life and In Death-Is Death as a whole. Loved it. Rammstein I've seen three times. The one big advantage of being German, I guess.

Dire Straits - Theme of the Local Hero: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W3zIfO-YOzg That live album, Alchemy, also has the most energizing version of Sultans of Swing they ever played. Phish - Slave to the Traffic Light. It's not my favorite performance of the song (The Clifford Ball, 8/16/96, not on Youtube), but Trey's guitar work in this jam is drat good. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U2WHAZBf5FE The Who - Live At Leeds. This is all of the material that exists on video from the Leeds performance, and it's really doubtful any more will ever surface. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sanAHVITCDY The Who - My Generation. ft. exploding drum set. In my mind there is no better filmed live performance than James Brown at the "TAMI Show". Apparently, when Rick Rubin met with Prince in the 80s, this was on a loop in Prince's office. Also, the Rolling Stones have said on several occasions that following Brown's performance at the "TAMI Show" was the biggest mistake of their entire careers.

Speaking of the best concerts I've ever personally been to, Leonard Cohen is the best performer I've ever had the pleasure of seeing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GUfS8LyeUyM I caught him on the same tour that this was filmed at, and he made the Arena he performed at feel like we were all in a little lounge. This is my favorite, not because it is a great video, but because I was there. The sound of the crowd singing along is/was amazing. Its also not a bad video, the bit where they stick the lights on and light up the crowd always gets me going. Iron Maiden - Fear of the Dark - Donington 2007 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=63ZjYL7_EXg People have already mentioned Rammstein, they are the best band i have seen live by far, but I haven't got any good live videos of them.
