Hello guys, I'm Kells and this is my cool new log History In my teens I was fit-ish, but could always have stood to lose 5-10kg. Then I moved out of home for the first time and ate takeaway 24/7 and of course gained weight. I would try halfheartedly to eat healthier but living in a shared house with a filthy kitchen + living in the CBD with takeaway literally everywhere meant I didn't do a great job. I moved in with my boyfriend at the beginning of this year, and even though I was cooking I gained more weight, probably from just plain eating too much. I knew I'd gained quite a bit but wasn't expecting to see 83kg on the scales when we bought some a month ago ![]() Since then I've lost 3kg but have a good 20 to go before I'm at my teenage weight, and would like to lose a bit more after that. Goals - lose 20kg by July 31st 2013 - run 10km in 60 minutes or less by 31st July 2013 How Do I am planning on losing weight and increasing my fitness by: - eating a low-carb (under 30g) diet at least 6 days a week - eating about 1200 calories every day - lifting 3x a week (modified Starting Strength posted in YLLS) - lil bit of cardio (20-30min) after lifting Current Fatty Stats Gender: Female Height: 165cm Weight: 80.7kg Chest: 101cm Waist: 86cm Hips: 112cm No pictures because I am ashamed but I did take some befores that I may post once I nab an after shot!!! e: okay fine here's a depressing photo of kells the fatty ![]() Other Sorry I don't have any cats or dogs but I do have this: ![]() Lily, the angriest rabbit who exercises by throwing cardboard boxes around. You're off to an excellent start ... although I do hope you don't end up regretting those chocolate balls! You might want to take a look a Bacon Legs' log. She makes a lot of low carb chocolate-y treats, as well as other deliciosity. Definitely post your photos, and taking progress pics as you go along. What a crappy morning so far. I'm tired as heck, my train was late so I missed my connecting train, and I got to work to find a pissy email from a client. Getting started on my breakfast now: ![]() I basically live on V and Diet Coke - there's something wrong with me and I'm tired all the time but doctors have yet to figure out what it is despite numerous blood tests and other crap. This is one of the reasons I hate doctors and think they are useless - the other is a doctor prescribing me something my file said I'm allergic to and I ended up in hospital covered in an itchy rash. I'd like to quit V but I need to work so I need to be awake. Rest day!!! We are going out to dinner tonight for my boyfriend's sister's birthday. It's a pizza place but they have other food so I'll have to get a steak or chicken or something. And try to resist dessert ![]() Food for breakfast/lunch today, leaves room for restaurant food.

Not saying this is your problem at all, but you might find that once you start exercising regularly your tiredness goes away on its own at least somewhat. So I had a ham, cheese, and sundried tomato omelette for lunch instead of a salad and my calories are still abysmally low. But I'm full... It's baffling how hard it is to hit any sort of food target on a low-carb diet. After a small sized meal I'm really full and even when I force myself to eat and end up getting so full I feel sick I don't get anywhere near my calorie targets. I never tracked food when I was eating carbs, but I was obviously eating a TON of calories since I ended up where I am now. But it was mostly awful things like croissants and chocolate and chips. I sort of want to stay on low-carb - I'm confident that it's not the restricted carbs that are making me tired since I was already tired before I started this. I like the reduced cravings this way of eating has given me a lot as I've finally kicked my sugar habit. Why is this so hard

One cheat meal a week is fine! As far as not being able to eat enough goes, are you weighing your food? If not, it's possible you may be eating more than you think. Have you inquired in The Goon Doctor about your tiredness issues? They may not be able to come up with anything more than your own doctor, but sometimes they do come up with solutions that people's doctors may have missed.

slinkimalinki posted:One cheat meal a week is fine! Definitely! I've done low-carb with no breaks for long periods of time, but I've recently discovered that having one day a week when you eat a few more carbs than usual is helpful from the point of view of allowing you to feel like nothing is truly off limits (therefore preventing disordered relationships with food to a certain degree), even if it doesn't affect your energy level, which for me it seems not to. ... Run-on sentence much?

kells posted:Is one cheat meal a week too frequent? It all depends on what your average deficit day looks like and how fast you want to be losing weight. Most people love losing weight fast, but it's actually not ideal - you lose more lean mass than is necessary, you risk burning out, and you put unnecessary stress on your body. A moderate deficit most days and then a moderate splurge once a week sounds just about right! I'd advise you not think of it as a cheat meal though: it's part of your solid plan

slinkimalinki posted:One cheat meal a week is fine! As far as not being able to eat enough goes, are you weighing your food? If not, it's possible you may be eating more than you think. Yeah we have some food scales and I weigh some things but estimate others. I might try to weigh everything for a week to see how far off my estimates are. I've asked in the Goon Doctor IRC, and have asked a few other people who I've seen mentioning tiredness like mine. I have a feeling I have sleep apnea or something, but I am currently trialing taking melatonin to see if it helps! So far my regular exercise hasn't had an effect on the tiredness either way. Thanks everyone for your advice re: "cheat" meals - I'm glad it's Goon Approved to splurge once week! To be honest I could probably stay low carb for a long time but it's a pain in the rear end to try and be low-carb at social occasions, plus carbs are so tasty. I had some delicious mushroom, capsicum, eggplant and olive pizza last night and it was very worth it!! Back to the gym today: Barbell Squat: - 24.5 kg x 5 reps - 32 kg x 5 reps - 37 kg x 5 reps - 39.5 kg x 5 reps - 39.5 kg x 5 reps - 39.5 kg x 5 reps Standing Military Press: - 10 kg x 5 reps - 12.5 kg x 5 reps - 17.5 kg x 5 reps - 17.5 kg x 5 reps - 17.5 kg x 5 reps One-Arm Dumbbell Row: - 10 kg x 5 reps - 10 kg x 5 reps - 10 kg x 5 reps Running (treadmill): - 0:12:30 || 7.5 km/hr || 1.5 % - 0:17:30 || 5 km/hr || 1.5 % fito2sa Felt good about the amounts I lifted, have improved on everything. The military press was tough as my left arm is SO WEAK. Gonna start running instead of elliptical because it's harder and therefore more rewarding - it gives me something to work towards rather than just doing half an hour of falling asleep on the elliptical. Hopefully doing it on the treadmill will help with the shin pain I used to get from running on the pavement. I think I'll buy some protein powder today and start having shakes for breakfast maybe to help myself hit both calorie and protein goals.

Good morning fellow Ausgoon! Tiredness problems/tonsils out: When I was a kid, I caught some weird virus similar to glandular fever when I was about 8 years old that I couldn't shake for years. After that, I had chronic tonsilitis for years until the doctors finally agreed to refer me to a ENT specialist, who removed my tonsils the following fortnight. I had the surgery when I was 18. Anyway, these health problems combined with my susceptibility for insomnia meant that I spent most of my childhood feeling incredibly drained and tired all the goddamn time. However, once I recovered from the tonsillectomy I felt fantastic. Heaps of energy. So it's possible that maybe you have something similar going on and the reason you're always tired is because your body is constantly trying to fight off infection. I'm not a doctor, and I don't want to try and get your hopes up in case I'm wrong (which is highly possible) but I couldn't help but wonder what happened to me might also be happening here. Weight changes: You're lifting weights, so you are most likely building muscle at the same time as you're losing fat. Because of this, that number on the scales might not budge very much for a while. Try not to lose heart! Perhaps taking measurements might be more rewarding and a better tracker of your progress than the scales? Eating low carb: Yeah, this is really loving hard For about a fortnight I tracked my food and for the life of me could not keep it under 100g per day. You've been keeping it way under half that amount, this is ballistic and blows my mind!

Thanks bee! Yeah I'm harboring hope that removing my tonsils will help with the tiredness, even though everyone keeps telling me it'll hurt like hell. I have a love/hate relationship with low carb - the restrictions in what I can eat mean I find making my deficit very easy, but at the same time I'm sort of angry at it because I'm depriving myself of foods I love and I haven't even lost any weight. I know lifting will gain me some muscle but I'm hambeast enough that I should be losing kilos too. It's sort of like, well why am I not eating foods I love when doing low carb doesn't appear to be doing me any good? I'm too impatient, I know. I am planning on sticking with low carb for another month or two even if I am angry at it! kells fucked around with this message at Nov 26, 2012 around 22:56 |

I won't lie, it took me a month to recover and it hurt like a bitch. If they offer you pethadine for pain relief while you're in the hospital, take it. If they offer you orange juice for breakfast the next day after surgery, throw it at them The upside of all the pain is that because it is in your throat, you probably won't feel like eating and even then it'll be mostly liquids you're gonna be living off for the next few weeks. I think I dropped about 10kg after having my surgery so that's a plus.

Woo woo! Go go gadget deadlifts. I'm glad you were able to fix em. re: Sleep. I found once I started lifting, my sleep and tiredness issues went away. Though my insomnia had a lot to do with anxiety, which lifting seems to magically cure for me. Definitely go get the sleep test. My mother found out she had sleep apnoea in her mid forties and they fixed her right up, but she went through literally half her life being exhausted, which you don't want to be doing. Losing weight and exercise may help if you have apnoea too so it's super good you're doing all this.
