CLUB NINTENDO DIGITAL REWARDS
Tons of games across Wii U, 3DS and Wii! - list here, rewards page here. Ends June 30.

Reminder, Mario vs. DK's "cross-buy" is just tem giving you a code for version x if you buy version y and vice-versa, so you can give it away or sell the extra code if you don't want or need both versions.

Aria of Sorrow is fantastic, Klonoa 2 is pretty good.

A bit late, but that hat is pretty nice.

I got one last year, and am hoping they put the Luigi one up as a reward before they shut the whole thing down. Or like anything. I'm sitting on 4650 Australian stars here and not lacking the complete lack of new stuff they have put up. They have changed the rewards list to include a "list view" function within the last day or two though, so I assume they have something at the very least planned with that.

Now they put games on there. Oh well, spent all my stars on the ALBW soundtrack. Pretty sure that means there's not going to be anyone who'll sell me a Wii point card since they can spend the stars on a game instead. Oh well! I guess I'll go with plan B and get Bomberman '94 for my 700 and buy another 1000 points to get Paper Mario some time in the future. And by "in the future", I mean I hope there'll be N64 games on the Wii U VC before that.

I'm thinking of picking up SMT4. I asked over in the 3DS thread, but only got one response. Is it a good game to get into jrpgs with? I haven't played a jrpg in probably 15 years, and last time I did, I didn't like them. But I also didn't like Zelda back then, and I'm slowly making my way through the whole series.

I'd like to try a jrpg, and I've heard people talk about SMT4, but I just don't know if it's the right game to jump into.

I tried Pokemon Black, and I can't handle it. I just don't have that level of attention anymore. I played for like 6 hours and I had 9 Pokemon and I rage quit. Why does everyone think I'm going to get in trouble?

Get X or Y then, there's an item that distributes experience to your entire party now and you get it really early. Also why would you level 100 different Pokemon at once? Just stick to like 6 and maybe have like 3 more you can rotate in and out.

I might get some flak for this but XY single player was way too easy for me to enjoy for long. I felt like I had to handicap myself to get anything out of it.

SMT4 is way more interesting from a story/theme perspective, and the challenge is about right. You do get kicked around a bit at the very start when you don't have any resources, but it's fair. You play by the same rules as the enemies do. There's grind DLC too if you're willing to pay an extra buck or two to save the time.

Have you thought about Bravely Default? If nothing else there's a decent demo on the eShop, you could try that out and see if it's your thing. There's also a demo for Etrian Odyssey 4, but that game is pretty cutthroat and isn't friendly to anyone, much less beginners.

As has been pointed out, you don't level 100+ characters in Pokemon. You pick 6-10 or so and level them. Even if you didn't like Black for being too grindy, I'd still recommend giving X and Y a look. You get the EXP share item very early on and can basically use it to tool how much EXP you're getting. Leave it on all the time and you'll outlevel everything in the game with barely any effort. Best way to use it is to leave it off most of the time and only turn it on if you need to catch up a new party member or if you find yourself falling behind the curve.

That said, for a JRPG recommendation to get back into the swing of things, I recommend FFTA2: Grimoire of the Rift. It's technically a strategy RPG, but it's great and one of my favorite DS games. You don't have to grind to beat the main game, but there are extra challenge missions that will require you to discover game-breaking combinations in order to succeed. But they're completely optional. Bravely Default is like that too, and that would be another good game to get back into JRPGs with.

I guess it wouldn't hurt for you to try the Etrian Odyssey IV demo to see if that's to your liking. You can buy the actual game and continue where you left off with the demo.

EDIT: Oh, and don't listen to anyone who says SMT4 is boring.

BattleMaster

Yeah, Bravely Default and Etrian Odyssey IV are the standout RPG games for the 3DS, I think. There's also Etrian Odyssey Untold if you prefer more characterization and a set party. Though if you can't stand the first person dungeon crawl style the Etrians may not be for you.
