sorry about the clock.

Backstory: I lost about 25 lbs slowly during 2010 and 2011 through low cal dieting, but I was still pretty much a lazy gently caress until around April of this year, when my friend got me into rock climbing. I started running in August and 8 weeks ago I started doing sean10mm's modified Starting Strength writeup.

Stats:
Gender: F
Age: 24
Weight: 145 lbs
Height: 5'6"
5k time: 38 minutes (on a track)
Working weights: Deadlift 145 lbs, Squat 115 lbs, Overhead Press 60 lbs, Bench Press 70 lbs.

Goals:
- Bench press 90 lbs by the end of February 2013. Completed 02/22/13:

video proof

- Complete the Krispy Kreme Challenege Completed 02/09/13:

- :nottoxx: Get to 20% BF. When I measure with my calipers I get around 22-23% now. I think this will be a natural side effect of the first two goals though, in combination with not eating like a fatass.

Plan:
- Log all of my food on MyFitnessPal, eat as many calories as I burn (no more, maybe a little less), and get at least 1g of protein per pound of lean body mass every day (about 112g).
- Drink tons of water, stop drinking so much alcohol.
- Continue to do sean10mm's modified Starting Strength workout 3x per week.
- Run or do run/walks 2-4 times per week, slowly building up to 5 miles.

Pics: I already posted this in the incremental progress thread but whatever I think it's still relevant.

Nice work, I'm currently doing a low cal diet with little exercise and so far it's going well.

How are you liking myfitnesspal?

sorry about the clock.

Great, I'm glad your diet is going well. I think I would have lost weight faster if I had dieted and exercised instead of just dieting, but for whatever reason the motivation to exercise wasn't there for me until recently. Good luck!

I really like myfitnesspal. The calorie counter is easy to use, free on my iphone (unlike livestrong), and according to my results seems pretty accurate. The community is okay too, though there are a lot of people into super low calorie dieting (aka anorexia) where they eat like 800 calories a day. I don't really think that's healthy so I don't listen to them!

Didn't exercise at all today because I'm sick, but my fever just broke so I'm looking forward to a lifting session tomorrow morning if I still feel well! Maybe I will go for a short run in the afternoon too if I'm fully recovered. This has been the fastest virus ever... who knew that drinking like 2 gallons of water and sleeping 12+ hours in a 24 hour period could really aid recovery.

Sup Triangle buddy. If you can run 5k now, you should have no problem running 5 miles in February. Are you going to eat any Krispy Kremes at all during the race?

I hope everyone can eat 12 donuts in their donut-run endeavors.

sorry about the clock.

To everyone saying eat the doughnuts... I'm with slinkimalinki, I don't think I could eat 12 doughnuts in a whole day. If I don't drink any alcohol I have trouble eating my maintenance calories for one day (1770+exercise calories) sometimes, and 12 doughnuts is 2400 calories! Besides the challenge is to run 5 miles and eat the doughnuts in under an hour, and right now at my 5k pace I'd have trouble just doing the running in that time, much less the eating. So no, I still don't really intend to eat any doughnuts. Thank you everyone for the encouragement.

Zugswang, have you done the K2C before? If you do it this year maybe I will see you there!

I lifted weights today! I don't really feel 100% over my virus though, and it showed in my workout. I tried to up my squats by 5 lbs and I fell. We're having to use the small weight room available at our rock gym since the school gym, where we usually lift, is closed for the Thanksgiving holiday, and the rock gym doesn't have a proper squat rack with safeties and all. So, when I fell, it was pretty bad as the weight kind of fell on me. Fortunately my boyfriend doubles as a workout buddy and he was able to kind of catch it and lift it off me.

On the other hand, I did complete 3x5 bench press with 70 lbs, which I didn't quite finish last time! I'm not going to run today though, because squatting and running in the same day sucks even when I am completely well, so I imagine it would be extra terrible while I am still coughing up stuff. Tomorrow I will go to the rock gym or run or both though.

e: I guess I am supposed to be more specific or something?

Squat:
5 x 45 lbs
3 x 95 lbs
2.5 x 120 lbs (fell)
5 x 115 lbs
4 x 115 lbs

Bench Press:
5 x 45 lbs
3 x 55 lbs
5 x 70 lbs
5 x 70 lbs
5 x 70 lbs

Deadlift:
5 x 95 lbs
1 x 150 lbs (oh god so weak gently caress this virus)
5 x 135 lbs

Assisted Dips:
2 x 8 with my feet on the floor because there's no proper assisted dip machine at this lovely gym

Weighted Incline Situps:
5 x 5 lbs
5 x 5 lbs
3 x 5 lbs (got dizzy)

Supermans:
3 x 8 bodyweight

Now that I write this all out I feel way worse about it.

I tried out week 4, run 1 of Ease into 10k today. I felt like Bridge to 10k was too hard and Ease into 10k started too easy so I'm splitting the difference. Since I am so slow I like that it is timed based, not distance based, because I think I will be running about 5 miles by the end goal of running for an hour. Which happens to be the distance for the KKC! So basically, this is the program I'd be doing:

Week 1, Days 1-3:
Run 8 min/walk 1 min, 4 times

Week 2, Days 1-3:
Run 9 min/walk 1 min, 4 times

Week 3, Days 1-3:
Run 10 min/walk 1 min, 4 times

Week 4, Days 1-3:
Run 15 min/walk 1 min, 3 times

Week 5, Days 1-3:
Run 17 min/walk 1 min, 3 times

Week 6, Days 1-3:
Run 18 min/walk 1 min, 3 times

Week 7:
Day 1: Run 22 min/walk 1 min/run 22 min
Day 2: Run 25 min/walk 1 min/run 25 min
Day 3: Run 30 min/walk 1 min/run 30 min

Week 8-10:
Idk keep up running for about an hour three times a week or maybe taper off or something? I don't really know how running works please advise.

Week 11:
Run the Krispy Kreme Challenge!

I'm not sure if I'm going to commit to this program, but today was okay. It was a hard run, I kept getting side stitches and stuff, but it didn't totally kill me or seem too easy either.

Weight lifting day! With bonus food pictures. Was going to run today or yesterday, but my knees are pretty hosed up. I think my mistake was running on the sidewalk, instead of staying inside my neighborhood where I can run on asphalt instead. Or maybe my mistake was running too many miles. Either way, I am foam rolling and stretching like mad and I hope to run either tomorrow night or Thursday afternoon.

I'm very happy to have actually finished my 3x5s of military press at 60 lbs! Especially because when I picked up the 60 lbs weight this random sexist old guy was like "maybe you should use a lighter weight!" I kind of ignored him, unless you count lifting like a boss as a response.

Back Squat:
45 lbs x 5
95 lbs x 3
115 lbs x 5
115 lbs x 2 (why are my squats still sucking so much?)
105 lbs x 5
105 lbs x 5

Overhead Press:
40 lbs x 5
60 lbs x 5
60 lbs x 5
60 lbs x 5

Barbell Bent Rows:
45 lbs x 5
65 lbs x 5
65 lbs x 5
65 lbs x 5

Assisted Pull-Ups:
40 lbs x 8
35 lbs x 8

Back Raises:
3 sets of 8

Weighted Incline Sit-Ups:
10 lbs x 5
5 lbs x 5
5 lbs x 5

Eating all the birds with my delicious egg white, brie, & turkey omelette and crock pot chicken chili. Don't judge me for the keyboard in the background of my all my pictures, term papers are due this week.

But now, after turning in a 28-page paper last night and giving a presentation on a 30-page paper that I haven't written yet this morning, all on an average of 4 hours of sleep per night for the past week... Thanks guys. I feel better.

Today while I was squatting, coming up on my first rep at my working weight, I felt a weird tingle go down the front of my right thigh. It wasn't exactly painful, maybe a little bit for a split second, it just kind of felt like a lighting bolt/spiderweb pattern nerve spasmy thing going down my leg from about mid-thigh to just above my knee. Very weird. It feels slightly warm to the touch and numb, but doesn't hurt at all. I finished my sets and it didn't seem to affect them. What the gently caress? Should I ask in the Goon Doctor?

Anyway, I have to run, I will be back to log my lifts later... just wanted to throw that question out there.

OK, proper logging:

Back Squats:

Bench Press:
45 lbs x 5
75 lbs x 5
75 lbs x 5

Deadlift:
150 lbs x 5

Assisted Dips:
30 lbs x 5
30 lbs x 4

Weighted Incline Situps:
15 lbs x 5
10 lbs x 5
10 lbs x 5

Back Raises:
3 x 8 bodyweight

Then I ate a poo poo ton of raw fish:

What is "that thing"? Are your knees buckling much? It seems like a huge percentage of the population has weak hip muscles, and this leads to problems with squats. It also leads to running injuries, since their legs are unstable and weird limb motions take place.

But hey, if you can see sports med doctors, that's perfect. They should be able to figure out whatever your problem is and then refer you to a physical therapist for corrective exercises.

I saw a doctor and she wasn't 100% sure what was wrong, but said that probably I have a pinched nerve in the top of my thigh/by my hip. She recommended 3 days totally off of all physical activity, followed by a week of slowly increasing back up to my normal level of lifting/running/etc. I'm also supposed to stay on advil for a week or 2 and wear loose pants or skirts. So, I took 3 days off, then ran today:

If you guys think it might be a form issue, I will probably post in the form check thread. I am probably taking a full week away from squats/deads, but later this week I will try to take a video. I feel like my form has gotten pretty good, but it can't hurt to check!

I have gone to 3.5 miles alternating running and walking but that's it. Good luck on your 4 mile run. I feel like if you normally run about 3 you can definitely run 4 once, right? In my limited experience increasing weekly mileage is a lot harder than just running longer once.

Also, I have no idea. The posh high school like half a mile from my house has an awesome track with big KEEP OUT signs on it.
