Whitey Ford posted:As Brundle pointed out, with an appropriate level of disgust, if Kimi had done a proper track assessment instead of his apparent DILLIGAF attitude, he'd have known it ended in a locked gate. While I agree 100% I don't think it cost him all that much, as he went off so fast that I think he would have been into that support lane to do a 180 anyway. He lost the time up the hill and back but not much more I don't think.

Why should he have expected the gate to be locked? It was the pit for the support races, if one side was open, you'd expect the other side to be open. Not to mention he had gone through there before in 2001. I'd say he was smart to go through there because it was a way to get back to the track while staying on pavement. Should he next time go through every single runoff area and make sure it's not blocked in?

Can I interest you in a new I'm not sure why everyone is making a huge deal out of the Kimi thing to be honest. Other than being drat funny it was not exactly a big deal, going up a slip road he thought was open rather than attempting to turn on a slippery grass surface that could easily have spun him around and bogged him down seems relatively normal, and i refuse to believe that a "thorough track assessment" from any of these drivers involves checking for locked gates pre-race.

Yeah I think the location is their biggest issue here. Finally watching the race, and Massa slowing Webber down so Alonso could overtake them both on the first corner was stunning. Some of the best team driving I've seen.

This, plus what's to say it would be open when they do their track walks and then be locked later on anyway? Seems stupid to sugges that they should check every possible escape road and then worry about whether or not some do-gooder marshal has locked it up at some point between their track walk and the race. I used to like Brundle but I've not missed his commentary this year, much prefer DC.

It reminded me of the stories from his Karting days, something almost identical happen to him as a child but he was able to lift the car over the barrier at the end. It would have been great if he'd jumped out and opened the gate.

Whitey Ford posted:Brundle seemed to think it was not unreasonable to take note of things like this during a track walk. He's done more pre-race track checks than me so I will take his word for it. He lost nothing from going through that run off area, doing the 180 on tarmac was a better option than on mud regardless. Especially since when he went across the mud to rejoin the track he ended up with poo poo on his tyres anyway, which then meant he went off at exactly the same corner the following lap. By going through that pit lane area he had the possibility off saving his tyres completely, while loving his tyres no less than stopping on the grass. I'd say that was a decent risk to take. I don't think you could give HRT away at the moment, F1 is not as sexy to rich men as football clubs at the moment.

Full marks for being keen http://appshopper.com/sports/f1-2013-timing-app-cp Less than full marks for being £17.99 at a discounted price, especially as the FIA pressured the freebie equivalent offline a few months ago. They also lowered the price of the now finished 2012 season app, not sure why someone would pay 5 quid when they can look at the wiki for free but there you go.

In my experience it was drunk Englishmen in Hong Kong after hearing that there were Yanks in the bar. Also in my cousin's experience in Malta (which was labeled a "minor international incident" since the Brits and Yanks involved were in their respective navies). Oh yeah and my friend's experience in Greece. There was no lack of money involved in any of those situations, or sports for that matter. Isn't this a problem with Spanish sports organizations? I remember reading they had some football clubs that couldn't pay their players. Doesn't look good for HRT, then again nothing really does.
