Just had a map for the first time with two opposing fleets of battleships just passing each other without firing.

Yeah I think it was called that, maybe Two Cities. Only seen it once though and I've played 101 missions. It looked pretty silly but I guess they havn't coded in anything but AA-guns for the ships yet.

So what is controlling the carriers or warships like? Is it any fun? Will they ever add player controlled tanks or ground AA?

You can only control planes at the moment. The ships are all AI-controlled.

I've seen mention of the ground and sea control.

They WILL be player controlled eventually. The notes I've seen on it read a lot like they were sitting in a meeting one day and had a moment of "Hot drat, we can actually DO THIS, guise!"

SO they are! (eventually)

Also, I bombed a plane out of the sky! (It was a friendly. -7000 Skybucks )

Yeah, I will imagine they might need to raise the starting altitude by a thousand or so.

I thought boats were next and tanks were last. Any idea if they changed that or if they'll have all three out by open beta?

Loving the way it looks, at least in the videos.

General consensus is that War Thunder is significantly better. It looks nicer, the game runs more smoothly, lag is less of an issue, and the game plays better. I don't think anyone has said that WoWP has any advantages over War Thunder.

Squadrons should be in this week (in theory), so that will make the game way more entertaining.

Holy poo poo everybody play historical battles. I just blew up like 15 ground targets in my Me-410B-1, the one with a pair of 500kg bombs and I made 67,000 exp with premium. That is a new record for me. A single AAA gun is worth 800 exp. I blew up some dinky rear end Matildas that counted as light tanks for 3010 exp each.

Edit: Added a note to the OP to check out the CTS mumble.

The Yak-3, La-5N are ridiculous and I don't think the I-185 is in the release tree.

Finally decided to check this out, after two friends hassled me about it. WoWP was a fairly big letdown for me so far but this looks like it'll fill that gap. I see Gaijin reused a bunch of their Birds of Prey/Wings of Prey models for it

IL-2 PLAYER PRO TIP: Get the Yak-3, La-5FN and I-185. You want them. Soviet fighters are nuts. I really hope they haven't hosed them up in this game.

I'm a bigger fan of the Hurricane 1. "Only" 8 guns, but it feels much more agile.

They're .303.

Even 8 .303s failed to reliably bring down anything much larger than a heavy fighter without several Spits or Hurricanes expending their ammunition into it. The fact that RAF pilots were terrible shots early in the war didn't help.

Does anyone with a Radeon 6 series play this game? I want to but I have a weird graphical error where all menus flash on and off randomly and the screen rolls. Support said Radeon 6 series and NVidia 7 series cards were not supported yet , but those two lines are pretty popular.

To play devil's advocate, you have to play a while until you can get a plane with reflector's sights since the game is simultaneously realistic (with early planes and their tech) and fanciful outside of un-finished modes (any plane can fight, I saw a Mitsubishi Ki-200).

...and delicious ice cream.

Yeah, starting off in the American tree is rough. The Peashooter is basically hurling tiny stones at the other aircraft. I really want the B-17 and B-29 though.

Also, I think the only thing that World of Warplanes does better is matchmaking. The tiered system makes battles more even. WoWP is also a little more polished, in that you can easily tell at the start of the mission what planes are fighters, attackers, and bombers.

It looks better than WoWP, and there are a lot more planes to choose from so far. The pilot skills and such are a bit more complex and some of it you'll have to figure out as you go. Planes handle roughly the same, though my joystick doesn't play well with this game at all. (may just need a ton of tweaking of dead zones and the like) Mouse/keyboard does pretty well though once you get the hang of it.

Right now you can't pick/choose which level of planes/pilots you'll be up against in your noob plane, which is pretty loving annoying to be going up against jets in your biplane. But since you get 3 lives it's not too bad.

One more upside...they're not planning on doing a wipe before they go live, so feel free to buy some gold and have at it. (if they do wipe, they'll refund the gold you've spent)

Arcade mode is where the action is. A few people were doing the historical battles, which supposedly give awesome crew skill and XP rewards.

The engine and basically everything is from Wings of Prey which had missions with ship vs ship battles. Once they finish adding basic features like realistic, chat, friends and squads it will be pretty easy for them to flesh out the ships.

Set the convergence to .3 or .2 and then try to stay that distance away from them, then aim a bit ahead of them and go for the cockpick, or aim where the wings meet the fuselage.

I can't hit a loving thing with bombs, but flying in a huge rear end boat is so much fun. Wish there were less boat haters though, and that I had the b17 already.

Also does training up more gunners seriously cost 120 skill points? I have 4 gunners, this is going to be horrible.

The third time, the exception becomes the rule

I have a question regarding experienced gunners. My bomber has one experienced gunner, but two gunners total, which means I take a penalty to crew skills. Will the second gunner become experienced over time or do I need to save up 240 crew points to increase the number of experienced gunners I have?

E: ^^ Screw you, now my post is pointless.

As far as I can tell, you have to pay the points. I really hope I'm wrong, though, because I'm not even done saving up for my first non-free gunner yet...

Do the bombs/torps for other countries have sensible names?

For all my jap bombs I have to Wikipedia each one because who knows the difference in a 1000kg type 99 mod 5 vs a 1000kg mod 6 version 3 mark 12. One naval plane has 7 options of various torpedoes all of the same payload. I assume some are AP for busting ship decks and the other is HE for bombing ground forces.

As far as I've seen, my PBY-5 is level 60-80 and hasn't gained a free experienced gunner yet. On top of that, it's not 120 crew xp but 240 for the second gunner, and 350 for the third.

So yeah, getting experienced gunners sucks.

I think they may be identical. In most cases, the only thing that counts, I think, is the weight of the bomb.
