I have a question regarding experienced gunners. My bomber has one experienced gunner, but two gunners total, which means I take a penalty to crew skills. E: ^^ Screw you, now my post is pointless.

Yep, gotta pay to upgrade your gunner count to the same as your plane or you suffer a penalty (it's pretty high). The cost also goes up the more gunners you have. I'd suggest making one crew your 'gunner plane crew' and dump into the gunner stats. Or just buy eagles.

Took out a B-17 using some rockets, they rock all them bombers socks

Also got up to the Yak-7 and boy, that 20mm cannon is my new best friend.

One request tough: I want to see kills awarded for stuff like the enemy crashing due to leaking fuel - shot a CAS up real good but he crashed into the ground before I could turn around for the final pass and I got nothing for it

(Incidentially I crashed 3 times out of 4 in one match due to fuel leaks, goddamn)

Some XP for ramming kills would be nice too.

On the other hand, I like intentionally crashing when overly-damaged so no one gets credit for shooting me down. I feel it balances out the one hit deaths I usually experience.

My Hurri Mk I is current showing a +45% reward rate, to the average 5-10% in the SOVIET RUSSIA tree. Seems odd that a fighter that decent in its tier is getting such a boost.

I liked the Russian tree up until the LaGG-3, but the reload rate on the cannon really forces you to aim well as a single .50 is basically useless. And I don't do that. On the other hand, the 7.62s on the previous planes were basically click and watch a WALL of bullets appear 500m in front of you.

I'll have to grind harder and see what the Yaks are like.

Overall though, I really like the game, makes WoWP even more laughable then it was before I tried it. I find that the Bi-planes and low tier stuff can hold their own pretty well even against higher ups, because most of the pilots in the game are terrible anyway.

Occasionally you catch someone in a MiG-15 who can actually fly it though. That's not enjoyable.

I return with gifts from the test server!

A wonderful new glossy sheen to all planes.

Shots of the highest tier of each of the new planes!

Removal of all but one of the Gladiators!

A new Korean War type map!

Edit: Whoops forgot to add. You can now buy a "Talisman" for your planes for gold. It adds a 100% bonus to experience earned on that plane. For my Me-410 it said it would be about 1100 gold. Starter planes are 80 gold.
I didn't get to try the squadron function but it is there. There is hardly anyone on the test server to even coordinate with to try it.

Edit 2, Edit Harder: I got some shots from the forum of the new water which looks awesome.

That HE-112 is a beautiful aircraft. Seriously gorgeous.

Have they given any hints as to how many planes they are planning on adding? Maybe WoWP selling point will simply be a massive variety of aircraft, similar to what Warbirds (and maybe Aces High) did.

Also does training up more gunners seriously cost 120 skill points? I have 4 gunners, this is going to be horrible.

Depending on your aircraft and altitude, there's a big rear end targeting circle that shows up on the ground that tells you exactly where the bomb is going to hit.

I bought "a month's MMO subscription" worth of Eagles. I got the Havoc I and trained up the crew to Expert and dumped a bunch of XP into the Gunners' accuracy and scatter.
The Havoc is my favorite. 4x 50 cal. in the nose, 4x 500 pound bombs (and a level bombsite), and two tail gunners - one above and one below.

I stay up high on anti-bomber duty and drop 111's and flying boats all day long.
If there aren't any, I've gotten pretty good at leading the moving targets on the ground.
Against MG armed planes behind me, I hop to F6, and then it's a race to see what gives in faster, one of my engines, or your will to live. (SO FUNNY when they break off, because I hop back to the F4 view and give chase...)
Occasionally, I'll get the opportunity to stoop like a hawk on someone and blast their Spitfire out of the sky before they knew what hit them.

Totally the second best $15 I've spent on a game this month. (The Walking Dead being the best, but that was $25.)

It's a little too big for the 100lb bombs. Maybe you'll get a little XP from a ground target hit if it's in the reticule but you need to be a surgeon to get a direct hit. It's yellow to me and turns red for a quarter-second when the crosshairs directly cross a target.

500lb bombs solve this problem, however.

I love the Pe-3bis so much. Its fast, has a nice turret on the back, has 2x 12.7mm and a 20mm and a very nice bombload. I don't see what's not to like. I switched off to the Pe-2 though since I make more money in that.

If you will not serve in combat, you will serve on the firing line!

After two lackluster rounds in the peashooter I managed to get enough XP to rank to get the Buffalo so at least now I'm in a decent plane for a couple of minutes before I get shot down.

Also I tested the missions which seemed nice but the annoying part I noticed is that they only give you full rewards for two or three after that you've hit a limit. Which is kinda annoying when I suddenly found myself playing in a campaign.

Check to see where your bombs are on the plane, if they are under the wings, you should not be using the center of the bombsight to aim, more like the ticks to the left and right.

Use a bigger bomb.

Holy gently caress are the early german planes bad. I ranked Brit to 5 and russian to 3 and decided to rank germans to 3 and wow. Their rank 1 and 2 fighters get absolutely garbage armaments. 2 MGs with slow fire rates and piss all for ammo capacity? I do better with the german beginner planes than the falco or the G50s. Admittedly I'm a bit spoiled by the brits getting 8 guns at rank 2 and the russians with their psychotic ROF. Gonna stick with it till rank 4 and see if it gets better, since the rank 3 planes are more agile but still have poo poo weaponry.

Glad to see even the historical blurb agrees that the Italian-made planes had woefully ineffective weaponry.

I'd say yes, but more so later on. +30 reload speed by leveling up gunner skills is cheaper than just leveling up reload speed normally.

And as for German planes, they really start out crappy. I got up to rank 4 and still find them crappy. At least the Americans get the FA3 Buffalo and the Kitty Hawk at rank 3 and 4 respectively, making them actually playable (Kitty Hawk is probably my favorite plane so far). Going to work on Russia next and see how that goes.

To quote this handy guide.

quote:

British Tend focus on dog-fighting and large caliber bombs, Their aircraft are generally Fast; averagely sized and have lots of guns. The bombers for the British are generally under-gunned but have turrets in good locations.

Americans focus on fast hit and run style "Energy fighters" they don't turn all that well on average but have a lot of firepower and normally have under-slung bombs for killing ground targets. Their bombers are solid, hard to kill and are very well defended.

Germans focus on dog-fighting and some of the higher tier aircraft are 'energy fighters', They have a large variety of play-styles and are good for an learner to fiddle around with. German bombers carry a large payload but are slow and poorly defended.

Russians are a perfect mixture of 'energy fighter'/ dog-fighter, most of their aircraft can turn quite well, and have the climb rate to bounce away. Most Russian aircraft carry lightweight bombs, or rockets- Such as the IL-2m Strumovik. Russians love their ground attack aircraft like the pe-2 and the tu-2. Russian bombers such as the YeR-2 ACh/30B-late C carry a HUGE payload of 5 tons and are fast and hard to knock out of the sky.

Japanese are all about speed and being maneuverable little buggers. They generally can't survive long in head to head conflicts and as such are great for in-and-out operations or fast dogfights where the you don't have time to screw around; While they do turn and climb well; their damage is sub-par. Japanese bombers are fast but carry little payload to compensate; but have great defensive armament.

I didn't see anyone answer this: free repairs take a certain amount of time based on the specific plane. This time is listed if you hover your mouse over the plane. By default, planes are auto-repaired at the end of a mission and it deducts the lions from your account, though it's a very small amount for early planes. This is a plane-specific cost. You can disable this but you would then need to choose different planes to fight with. A mid-rank plane like the Yak 3 takes nearly 11 hours to repair for free, but costs 2,664 lions to repair. If you were to get just a few kills with it, ground or planes, you've made a profit. It's not until you get to the late planes that you ever have to worry about something like that. The MiG-15 is a rank 20 plane that take 18 days 12 hours 40 minutes to repair for free or 21,240 lions obviously you have to so a bit better to pay for a death of a MiG-15. As I understand it, only planes destroyed in a mission have to be repaired, damaged ones don't.
