0-0 at half time. Uruguay with two changes since the last game and it isn't working, the new defender (Velazquez) will get a red card anytime now and Avenatti is the best creator of France's chances.

Verzeri should sub in Varela for Velazquez and move Gimenez to the center of defense before it's too late.

Welp, it was a good game anyway. I thought France would crush us and they didn't. In a couple of years this generation might play a real WC and lose their third WC final.

Thread has been dead for a while but I found this to be an interesting read on Arsenal's Gideon Zelalem. The article title is pure click bait but the actual content is quite interesting and also poses potential problems should be actually decide to play for the US internationally (he'd essentially lose his German citizenship which would eliminate his EU rights and cause problems with his ability to play first team football for Arsenal).

Reading's U18 side beat Liverpool last night to progress to the semi-finals of the FA Youth Cup. The last time Reading got this far in the cup their squad included Jem Karacan, Alex McCarthy, Gylfi Siguršsson, Alex Pearce, Simon Church, James Henry and Hal Robson-Kanu. I can't remember the last time a single youth team produced 6 premiership and international regulars.

The U21s play Arsenal in the League Cup semi-final on Saturday, the team has recently played with six first year scholars (16/17yo).

We totally have one of the best youth setups in England now, will be fantastic to see more of these players break into the first team. Some of the youth players said recently that one reason it's working so well is that players are regularly given the chance to step up and play with older age groups and that everyone regularly trains and socialises with people from other age groups including the 1st team.

Arsenal U19 v Barcelona U19 is on Eurosport now, started a couple of minutes ago. It's the quarter final of the Uefa Youth League.

@Arsenal U-19s v Barcelona: Iliev, Bellerin, O’Connor, Pleguezuelo, Ormonde-Ottewill, Olsson, Zelalem, Gnabry, Toral, Maitland-Niles, Akpom

Gnabry, Zelalem, Olsson and Bellerin are the most promising Arsenal players I guess.

He didn't play this weekend and he'll only be on the bench against the Chels, so I guess they're keeping him match fit.

They probably want to give him more game time. I imagine he's third or lower in the depth chart to play on the right wing which oxlade-chamberlain, rosicky, and walcott in front of him.

We are Fulham, super Fulham, we are Fulham, fuck Ch*lsea.
Exciting 3-2 win highlights. Reading were brave with 10 men for most of the match after a tough penalty call, and their left back Owusu was really impressive again (until he cramped up) but Moussa Dembele is just the most poo poo-hot player at this level. He had a wretched game and managed a hat trick, what does that say about him? Patrick Roberts also incredible and reminds me of a young Steeeeed Malbranque.

Also if anyone's interested in youth football then the international club youth competition The Dallas Cup kicks off its 35th tournament on Sunday (runs for 8 games, the finalists will play 5 matched). Fulham are the reigning super-group champions returning to defend our trophy. Last year we won our group beating Coritiba (Brazil) Eintracht Frankfurt and LA Galaxy, before defeating Fluminese in the semis and a Japanese team called Kashiwa Reysol 5-1 in the final (all the goals are here). Other teams that were there were Man Utd (who lost to Kashiwa in the group stages), Club America, and Tigres.

This year's brackets:

So anyone interested in the USMNT of the future might be interested in watching. Last time around all the games were streamed on the web (KickTV) and they're also on telly in some states. U-18s football can be really enjoyable to watch. It's not as physical as the full adults but instead it's a very quick, technically superb game. For me it's a bit like the distinction that women's tennis has (when it isn't dominated by physically imposing players).

Dembele is absolutely fantastic, it's hard to believe he's only 17. Reckon he'll push for the 1st team next year?

10 man Reading U21s lost the first leg of the Premier League cup final away to Man City 3-2. We're home for the second leg on the 19th. Andy Cole's son Devante looked pretty decent.

He started our last home game so I'd say he is already pushing the first team, although he has been released for the Dallas Cup so he won't be in the squad tomorrow. Whether he pushes further next year probably depends on what division we're in, and if someone comes in with £5m+ for him in the summer.
