Hi, I'm Ginkage

Stats:
Height: 5'11"
Weight: 220lbs
Age: 30

Background:
I've been lurking YLLS and TFLC for a while now. After I turned 30 I started being more serious about fitness and have been going to the gym at least 3 times a week for the last 6 months. But now its the dead of winter in the frozen north and I am finding my motivation waning. Trying to go to the gym when its 30 below sucks and I find myself wanting to hibernate on my couch with a bag of chips and 6 seasons of Burn Notice. Hopefully the thought of internet ridicule will help me stay on track, so I am starting a log.

Goals:
The goal right now is to increase my strength. I want to hit a 1RM 1000 lbs combined total on my bench, squat and deadlift, with a ratio of something like 235 bench, 335 squat, and 435 deadlift. Current lifts are at 205 bench, 295 squat, and 385 deadlift. After I hit 1000 lbs total I will try and maintain that strength and cut weight.

1RM 1000 lbs combined total by 6/6/2013 (31st birthday)

Plan:
I usually do whatever at the gym based around lifting heavy things and putting them back down for and hour or so. I have been making good progress, just need to keep at it.

How delightful...

I understand when the weather can really hold you back from getting to the gym, the overbearing heat and humidity make it annoying to get anywhere without sweating into whatever shirt I'm wearing. It probably isn't nearly as bad as the cold though so I shouldn't complain.

I generally prefer it to be colder than warmer. Because I can always put on another layer if I am cold, there is only so much you can take off when its hot.

I ended up draining 5 gallons of water out of my ceiling yesterday. Going to have to replace one piece of sheetrock for sure and sand some paint off and repaint others. Doesn't appear to be any permanent structural damage though. The culprit was an improperly installed faucet in the bathtub that finally just failed. When the plumber replaced the faucet, he hooked up the hot and cold water opposite to how they had been originally. Not a big deal, except 6:30am Ginkage can't remember things like that and goes off muscle memory. So in my shower this morning when the water was a little cold, I just grabbed the handle and spun it on autopilot. Then I was desperately trying to figure out the secrets of teleportation until I made it to the other side of the tub.

The worst part is we haven't even gotten to the really cold part yet, we just had a historically below average November. I expect to see a few -50 days ahead.

Your climate temperatures are terrible but your lifts are strong.
Recommend taking your supplements and leaving them open on your door step so the freezing fog can glaze them over. This is how anabolic halo is made and the gains you will experience are immense.

Thanks, this is actually one of the worst winters I can remember. Usually its not so bad but this year we have consistently been below our historical average low temperature since about October.
Once the ice fog lifts maybe I will expose my supplements to the Aurora Borealis and absorb the power of the Cosmos.

Gym was closed today so thats it for workout until after Christmas. Bring on the holiday parties and way too much junk food. In other good news, yay for executive orders closing Federal agencies on Monday. A 4 day weekend will be nice. And also happy solstice, time to start gaining some daylight back.

Heh, December and January suck for sure. But when the sun only hovers above the horizon you get to take "sunset" shots all "day":


I look at it this way; its like all the cold, dark, and suck is compressed into those two months. Late winter is cool, warmer temps and lots of snow:


Then as a tradeoff in June and July the sun never really sets. So I can for instance still be hiking at 10pm:
