*Updated 7th April*

Want to play? Go sign up using the details below and choose the option to take over an existing team. X11 forces me to allocate existing teams to new players on a first come, first serve basis. As teams become inactive, you will be allocated one

Honour Roll - Previous and Current Champions of Serie Goon (aka the soap targeting system)

Season 1 - Langley Spooks - Destrado
Season 2 - Sardine FC - CamoesSA

The Goon Guide to X11 - Read this new people for some great advice

We are currently between seasons with a new one starting 8th April - apply now to play with a new or existing team!

Basic Information

Xpert Eleven is a football manager game where you manage a fictitious football team. The thought behind the game is that you compete with your friends in a league that you create yourselves. You manage your team/teams in good times as well as bad. Your tasks consist of selecting your team and working out some cunning tactical moves. You don't need to know anything about soccer at all and the game is designed to only take up about 15 minutes of your time twice a week at a minimum. If you want to succeed though, many more hours can be sunk in to the game quite easily.

Goon League Information

We've just launched a brand new league here: http://www.xperteleven.com/?lid=285422. Now currently heading in to season 3, we're starting to get on our feet. Still plenty of seasons left for a newbie to challenge for a title and build a team.

The previous league played for 20 strong seasons. We decided to make a new league to bring some new blood in to the league, reset the status quo of dominant teams and give everyone a new challenge. Here's hoping that the new league has a similar life span! You can join the league now and we will aim to start towards the end of December (Probably between Christmas and New Years Eve).

Feel free to invite non-goons but be sure they're a good fit. Most of the poo poo talking happens on the forum too, but that's their loss.

As our league is closed, I also have to approve all the teams. I'll be checking the site multiple times daily so rest assured that if it's not approved straight away, it will be shortly.

Need more information?

We have an IRC channel here:

Server: irc.synirc.net
Channel: #soccergoons

Most of us idle there most of the time but if you stick around you will get answers to your questions. We're a friendly bunch.

There is an FAQ here: http://www.xperteleven.com/faq.aspx

The rules of the game: http://www.xperteleven.com/ruler.aspx?RuleID=34

We also have a quick start guide we usually post in the threads but I am going to rewrite it as it's quite old. Stay tuned for a link to that.

Housekeeping
Long term inactives (3 weeks + of no activity) will be booted between seasons. This may affect promotion/relegation sometimes but I think it's the best way forward. Health of the league over promotion/relegation correctness.

We are currently between seasons with a new one starting 8th April - apply now to play with a new or existing team!

Speaking of which I need to write encouraging words to your new team. And your old team. Maybe I'll write them in soap.

Also my new team is bad and I want to fire all my players into the sun.

Edit: Ok I think I may actually keep a few players. A 22/2 though? Wow.

How do I see the value of my team? Some teams seem to have a value while others do not. I've seen anywhere between 3M and 16M Econ in our league.

Also, is this a good way to determine the overall strength of the team or does it even matter?

...where's that Newbie Guide?

tomanton

this is not a bus station

It takes a day or two for the game to calculate your squad value. It's the combined total of everything your individual players are worth and an overall measurement of a team's long-term health: a squad with high value will carry on at or above their current strength for a good while to come, a squad with low value is going to be much weaker in a few seasons without any adjustment.

Right now we're at the bottom of the bottom of the barrel so it doesn't mean much. "High value" in our case just means someone has some players worth selling (to buy better ones).

Kade may write something, but I will write at least my thoughts as I walk through my team, which may help you guys:

My team is: http://www.xperteleven.com/players....TeamID=1085380, the Dragon Kickers.

Here is an image of my team (you can see my SECRET HIDDEN QUALITIES HERE, though it doesn't really matter). Note that's it's actually a few days after so I ditched at least one player. Analysis is relatively the same.

So. The first thing I do when I look at my team is identify them into four tiers: Bad, Veteran, and Good. The ratings are based primarily among Age and Skill, with some consideration for special qualities. When players are referred to, often times you'll see 18/4 or whatever, which means Age and Skill.

Form is temporary and will be covered later.

There are a few rules of thumb I use when looking at players:

1. A well-trained player generally will get a skill bar every season until about 24-25, which then he'll probably get four more at most. At worst he'll get five skill bars in six seasons to start. There's a lot of factors that go into it, but that's my expectations. Your player usually will get better until he reaches age 30. After 30 there becomes an increasingly higher chance of retiring (which can be modified by playtime; more playtime = less chance) the next season. Also after 30 it's also really, really hard to gain skill.

2. 18/4 is generally the baseline for a "good" player, and increase both by one until about 22-23 or so to see if he's worthwhile.

3. I try to keep a pretty balanced team- I want a team that is always competitive in some way (usually), but I want to keep an eye on the future too. So I will have a few veteran players get some games in to win. Ideally I want a good spread age; an average team age of 26-27 is usually good.

Anyway, back to separating them. I'll list my breakdown and explain why:

Bad Tier

Brock Higgins: 28/6. He's old, he's not good, I have a younger player who is the same skill. He has the Cheater (better at flopping and getting calls, but also gets more cards; it's the trophy) and Loudmouth (gets more cards for arguing. It's bad. It's the curse word.) special qualities.

Luke McLaughlin: 26/4. Old and bad. He has the Tough (plays better when you tell your players to play bruising, worse when you tell them to be careful) SQ.

Nate Andrews: 25/4. He's alright, but I can get a younger lad with better SQs for cheaper. He has the Quick (really good on through plays cause he's fast) SQ.

Mack Bowers: Old and Fragile (gets injured more often; it's the medical kit which you can't see until I post an image) . Has the Header (good at headers and wing plays) SQ.

Demetrius Gaines (or Youre Sobad, if he gets his name changed): 22/2. Seriously? Why is he even on my team? He has the Greedy (a good trait actually; he plays better when you set win bonuses (always set win bonuses for league games)) SQ, which would be ok if he weren't a shame to his entire family.

Mickey McKay: Too old to take advantage of hard trainer (I mention it later). Blehhh.

Tim Snow: Please fall into a time machine and get 8 years younger. 28/5 is too old and too bad. Won't get much better than 8 skill, maybe.

Brandon Hanks: I've already forgotten who he was, 23/4 with no SQs is a waste of effort to even write about.

Good Tier

Johnny Kemp: 21/5. Skill's not great, but he has the Goal Instincts (right place at the right time; he scores more often) , which is fantastic on a forward, so he will probably stick around and I'll try and get him going.

Clifford Wit: 23/7. Not too shabby. He'll definitely get training and I'll see what I can make of him.

Pharrell Horton: 22/6. Has the Leader (wants to be captain) trait. He'll be my team captain and an alright dude.

Joel Petit: 20/4. Normally a 20/4 isn't great. Look at those qualities though. All around (plays fairly well out of position) is ok, and Freekick Specialist (good at freekicks. Duh.) is important to have. The other two are amazing though. Intelligent (generally plays better than normal) and Hard Worker (training is much more effective. This quality is great for developing players). . I'm going to pour some money into him and see if I can't get him into Samuel Charlton Jr, who was my lynchpin on my old team.

Henry Rowe: He's not going to get a lot better, but he will be very serviceable at seven skill until he hits 31-32. Has the leader trait.

Veteran Tier

Generally players who may stay a bit so I can win some games. Won't get developed a ton.

Ozzie Benton:He's alright given the general skill level. He has the All Around trait. Won't stay long when I find a new goalie.

Melvin Rasmussen: Six skill level is fine. Bit old to get a lot better, might get to nine skill if I'm lucky.

Arlen Ochoa: I guess he's... not bad by association. Five skill will be alright. Has the loudmouth trait. Blegh.

----------------------------------------

From my summary I have five good players, and four veteran players. Everyone else is getting fired into the sun. So I need to fill some spots, especially at defense.

So basically my goals likely are:

- Buy a young, 18/4 goal keeper with some good SQs. I want to develop a solid goalie. Good goalies win games.
- Set Youth Academy to 200,000 econ (generally I feel that's a good amount. More gives you a chance a better players, but it's a tradeoff).
- Buy a veteran defender and some development defenders
- Buy a young midfielder

It's kind of a stream of consciousness but hopefully it helps. I may write some more when I get a few extra players on why I got them. Hope this helps! Also, if I forgot a player it means they're probably not worth mentioning.
