Speaking of things the enemy side has done that I don't understand: Lately I've been seeing allied and hardened portals being toasted, but in their place I'm finding portals that are only filled with L2 or L3 resonators. Clearly there's someone popping the high-end portals, but why the hell are they only placing low-end gear on the portals? It's saying "Hey, enemy faction, free experience!", but what is their motivation?

I can't speak for others, but in my case this is the result of me not wanting to waste time on doing proper resonator placement on a portal I won't be able to maintain and am not likely to visit again soon to farm from. Simply mashing 'deploy' is good enough for those. If someone else on my team wants to fortify it and I pass by again I'll upgrade things. There's also the slight added benefit that enemy players won't get high-level stuff by hacking it until they upgrade it themselves.

There's many more high-level players of the other faction in my town so it doesn't really make a difference how high-level the resonators are, they can knock it down easily anyway.

I'll upgrade one or two of the resonators to level 6 if I feel like being a pest, but it's not like I get more AP for placing high-level stuff.

The faction G+ group in my area is a cesspool of complaints about just everything this game has to offer. It is amusing if it wasn't so sad.

- There are to many portals
- There are to few portals
- My XM runs out
- Some portals are impossible to take on!
- They come in and completely destroy my precious farm in a matter of minutes! (in the same post as the post above)
- People play this game from their car
- I don't have time to drive around all day
- After spending 4 hours around town, all my portals were flipped the same night! (in the same post as the post above)
- I cannot wait to be level 8, the other levels are ineffective
- Being level 8 is boring, there is nothing more to progress on.
- There are not enough players in my faction / to many in the opposition
- Everyone else in my side is a slacker / the other side is much to organised
- These people are scary, they know to much about us!
- We need to keep better track of work schedules of the opposition so we can strike on their near-home portals!

The most amusing thing however I found today in this thread. It is discovered that people who play MMO's and care about it are actual, honest to god, neckbeards who dress horrible and are socially awkward. Guess what? You are one of them!

You'd be surprised what people can find in Fruit Ninja to complain about.

At some point the game becomes less about AP but item control. If you deny the enemy their high level farms it's hard for them to get items. If you don't want to invest any high level resources but still get full ap/force the enemy to kill 8 resonators you just prop it full of low lvl crap.

Also SalTheBard what level are you? If the 8s dont come back the portals will eventually decay, you can still take on a l7 portal easily if you just get enough l3 bursters etc.

I just wish there wasn't some jackass on the other side whose behavior suggests they've got a second account they spoof with and use as a packmule for items. You never run out of stuff when you can just use a spoof app to warp yourself into any number of farms.

I'm level 5. There are 3 good farms that I hit pretty much daily. It just frustrated me because we are talking high level portals with a poo poo load of connections and 4 very rare shields on each.

Just preservere, if the portals arent getting repaired by the local enemy players you are able to bring them down with lvl 5, especially if you can directly reach all resonators.

This is a very high traveled area so no dice there just going to keep farming and struggle through. The Resistance vastly out number the Enlightened. They have a field that generated something like 6000 mus.

FrickenMoron

Same here, the resistance players usually are double the numbers here, we're holding our ground though.
I still think that naming one faction "resistance" was a big mistake. I know at least three people who joined it because "It's the resistance duh!" without looking up their local maps or asking what faction their buddies are in.

Apropos of nothing:

Ingress eats a lot of battery, and combined with normal usage, I've relied a lot on portable chargers. Most have been poo poo: they claim to be equal to my battery, but they don't have that charge in practical use.

At Fry's the other day, a worker grunt pointed me to this high capacity (10400 mAh) charger. Its expensive as hell (~80 bucks) but it has completely made playing Ingress a different experience. I can walk through a major farm and wind up with a increase in battery at the end, as I can put the charger in my pocket, connect it to my phone in-hand, and play normally. Evidently its a quick-charger (output of 2.1A, whatever that means.)

I realize this sounds like I'm pimping something I'm trying to sell, but honestly, this thing is awesome. Carrying a charger is easier than juggling batteries, for me at least.

I bike through for Ingress and I have a 6v 3w shimano dynamo front hub on my bicycle that I've wired up to a 5v regulator and charging circuit with a USB port and some backup NiCd AAA batteries (so it still charges when I'm stopped for a few minutes) that's inside a water bottle. So, my battery stays charged as long as I average more movement than not, which keeps me going around town at night.

So I have a portal thats close to my home, and I try and keep it at a 7 or an 8, and have plenty of keys.

Has anyone figured out a way to have gmail filter based on certain locations and have it alert you via a text or something?

I've tried the 'contains' filter option, but the URL is embedded behind a "click here" link, and I can't seem to find the magic sauce.

With the increased decay rate and xm requirements, keeping a portal alive is challenging. Takes too much XP, preventing you from doing other things. Ingress encourages grinding AP, and charging has a poor AP return; this also discourages doing it. It's also boring and time-consuming, since you have to repeatedly hit the charge button.

WhiteHowler

I wish there were an XM bonus for charging a portal in person. I can understand not wanting one or two people to be able to keep an entire city's worth of portals running, but if I'm willing to actually drive out to the portal every few days, it shouldn't drain my entire XM bar to recharge it.

Building is more AP than destroying. Around here, they do the opposite: knock everything down and put single L8 resonators on everything to deplete our XMP supply.

I only recently got an account and there is next to nothing near me. Luckily, my university is a haven for portals but mostly Enlightened controlled. It's hard to do anything at L1-2 without portals in clusters so I might have to take a trip to the city soon. An odd side-effect of this game is how paranoid it's made me when I'm hacking portals. What if that guy next to me is a smurf?
