Something I've noticed a few times over the last couple days. I'll hack an enemy portal, sometimes get loot, sometimes not, and then I'll be able to hack it again right away. I seem to only get AP for it once, and I haven't tried to confirm if i get the goods it tells me I do. I most often notice this when I'm hacking on the move. Anyone else get this happening, or know the cause?

Portals have a 5 minute cool down period between hacks and you only get AP for successful enemy hacks. It's possible to hack a portal twice within in the 5 minute period but it's rarely successful.

That's what I was talking about with the anti-spoofing a few posts back. A few players have been spoofing their GPS signal in order to run around the town without leaving their home so now google is implementing counter-measures, I think they overdid it a bit.

Yeah, I don't get any sort of failure message, but I get the impression it is telling me the hack succeeded but it really failed. I've taken to double tapping portals just to be sure I actually hacked them. If I'm getting double rewards that's cool, but I'd hate to be missing out on hacks because I was mislead to think they had gone through.

The team I'm on coordinated a big strike today and some guy showed up with his 10 year old kid that plays too. Dad plays on his phone which tethers to a Nexus 7 the kid was toting around. So god drat cute. All in all there were 7 of us. Amazing how much damage you can do in groups. Maker Of Shoes fucked around with this message at Jan 13, 2013 around 00:48 |

Got my invite the other day and just set it up. Time to join the resistance! edit: I'm on the first mission at 99% of the exotic matter collected by wandering around my yard and the street, I can't get to any more unless I hop fences or go across the street into the neighbors' back yards. I just got another invite with a different activation code. I never had to put in the first one, I just started playing. Is this normal, or do I need to enter one of those codes somewhere? Also, if I already used one, can I give the other away?

Well, I'm in as Enlightened and the whole are is Resistance. Am I screwed or is this good? I'm not going to be trying this out in the near future as the temperature is going to be around -6C (21F for you Americans) for the next few days so I intend to be wearing gloves. Also... what was the purpose of the activation code in my email? I clicked the link to install the app, opened the app, and was let straight in - no need to input any code. edit: Another, possibly dumb, question - is it possible to quit the app? I'm used to most games having an explicit exit option, whereas Ingress seems to behave more like a standard app. rolleyes fucked around with this message at Jan 15, 2013 around 20:33 |

While it can be frustrating to have a bunch of enemy portals around that you can't capture, it's even worse being low-level in an area that your faction completely dominates. At least you have a lot of portals around to hack for AP. My advice would be to explore the wider area around you, locate a few neutral portals (there are bound to be some), and grab them. quote:Also... what was the purpose of the activation code in my email? WhiteHowler posted:No, but Android is smart, and Niantic programmed the game to take advantage of this. When Ingress is in the background, it doesn't use processor time, data connection, or the GPS. If other programs need the memory, it automatically unloads itself. Now when I am on my runs, there is a Nike+ app on that uses GPS so Ingress knows right away where I am and only needs to load local data portal from the server. Opening and closing two complicated apps all the time ensures interesting results! I found a bug where, during the loading screen of the app, you pull down from the top to close wifi and then go back to the app, it is pretty borked. I could try to reproduce but meh.

Cheers for the advice. There are a couple of local landmarks near me which might qualify as portals but are currently not (two sports stadiums and a statue) so when the weather warms up a bit I'll grab pictures and submit them. Added bonus: I pass all of them on my walk to work, so if they are accepted that would be handy!

I've been submitting post offices and fire stations, since the Americans seem to have a ton of them as portals. I've probably submitted 20+ pictures in my little town of 30k people. Granted not all of them will come through (but here's hoping anyway) Speaking of: it's lonely at the top

They should rename this game "Google Geolocation Data Ingress Crowdsourcing Tool". Still pretty fun though. There's a fairly weak enemy portal across the street from my office that's just out of reach of my desk. I'm gonna have to take up smoking or something as an excuse to go outside and hack and bomb it all day. Also apparently this game needs a guide on how to deal with law enforcement when you get stopped for sneaking into a park after dark waving a phone around and mumbling about invisible portals.

On the intel map, find 2 portals of a high enough level to reach your portal. 3. Travel to them, making sure to link the high level portals as well. 4. Link final portal. Profit. Bonus points based on how big the field is.

I'd just rather not have to explain in the first place. One helpful thing I've noticed: Parking or standing in an unusual place and messing with your cellphone tends to draw attention. Put that sucker up to your ear like you're talking, and people don't give you a second look. It's bizarre.

I was riding my bike today in the nearby park before work, and I stopped off to top up some friendly Enlightment portals near a pair of monuments on the way home. While I was doing so this big white Shiba Inu wandered over wagging his tail and looking at me. I pet him a bit and then he apparently decided to just sit down on the ground next to me and chill out while his owner stood there bewildered and laughing. Clearly the Shapers are benevolent beings trying to give humanity more friendly dogs to pet.

Just took out my first portal and claimed it for my own and got to lvl 2. Feel i'm getting the hang of this game a little more now BUT... I just filled up the portal with lvl 1 resonators then started upgrading to lvl 2 but it stopped letting me upgrade even though i still had plenty of lvl 2 resonators left, do you need to let the portal recharge before you put more on? Also i put all my best portal shields on, was that unwise? Finally i tried linking some together but couldn't create a triangle, have i now ruined those portals for linking, etc?
