Welcome to the SA Racing thread. Everyone is welcome to join at any time and there's no single game being focused. I'm organizing races when I can, but feel free to race games on your own and post em here. I'll be happy to help you put the footage together and might even be able to make it for you if I'm not busy. You can get into the skype chat by adding me: joesmite. Include your SA name in the request so I know you aren't from youtube. Don't post your availability or timezone, we don't need it.

Coordinate a good time with some people. The group size is preferably 4, although we have done some races with more.
Introduce yourselves and start at the same time, each recording your own commentary and video. Make sure someone in your group is running Call Graph in case there's a problem (there's always a problem). You don't need to record game audio.
Go until you finish, get sick of trying, or are tired of waiting for slower players. You don't have to stay in the call for 3 hours listening to someone die repeatedly to Chill Penguin.
Try to avoid recording errors like: bad framerate, stretching, mouse cursors on screen, wrong recording device on audacity, capturing outside the game window, hypercam logos, etc. Do a test recording of the game and make sure the video is okay.

Sync your audio (3, 2, 1, "sync") with everyone in the call when you begin. It'd be even more helpful if you'd remove the pre-sync stuff after, so that your audio starts with you saying 'sync'.
Compress your audio/video before you upload it. Don't try to submit 4GB of raw video (Encoding Guide). Also, I hate keystroke recordings (bad sync) and would definitely prefer a video file when possible.
Get the files to your producer in a reasonable amount of time. If you take weeks to send your stuff it might get produced without you.
Your commentary's live so there aren't great expectations or anything, just don't make it extremely painful to listen to.
Let us know if something weird happened to you during the race (emulator crashed/froze, lost the call) so we can try to fix it.
Don't take this poo poo seriously. Don't train for 50 hours to win Megaman. This ain't the SDA.

Aside from the actual videos, we need a timer & names for each racer. Present them however you want, as long as they're legible. A script for the timer is here.
Do your best with getting the audio to sync with the videos. This may be easy or it may be a huge pain in the rear end, especially with keystroke recordings. You might have to adjust framerates or add pauses. Let me know if you're having trouble, I've done a lot of this.
Put some background music behind the commentary. What you use is up to you, but don't overwhelm the commentary, turn the music down.
It's not necessarily required, but its nice to have cool stuff like a progress bar for everyone. I have some sample scripts below.

Sure. I've heard that one mentioned actually but hopefully it was a joke. Because some jerks raced Link to the Past for five hours, it opened up the doors for all kinds of awful ideas.

We'll be doing some "Mystery Races" too, where no one knows what the game is until its time to start it up.

We joke about stupid games to race all the time but let's avoid racing games that are really long and repetitive by their nature like most RPGs. I don't think anyone wants to watch 4 people grind in Dragon Quest.

Your skill at a game is irrelevant and usually pretty entertaining to watch in contrast to people who crush it in the same group. I'd rather you not keep a call going for hours if you aren't going to win, but it wouldn't be anything new if that ends up happening.

By the way, you guys don't really need to post your timezones or availability. We're pretty laid back about getting groups together. You just want to get in the main channel on skype for discussion and as a sort of race hub. From there, if you want to race Megaman X2, we'll give you a link or invite to the MMX2 call. This way we can easily see who's signed up for MMX2 out of all the racers.
