On speedvids I'm back to 1999, and the coverage..just 13 years a go, the coverage owned. I'm kind of wondering if it's due to the fact that MRN and it's alumni's fingerprints were all over it? I think that's the reason why IndyCar coverage on NBCSN is so drat good because IMS Radio Network/WFNI's alumni/employees are on there. So it boils down to, people who gave a poo poo, knew something about racing, and be professional about it could cover it well. Well that has changed my life view. I've reached nirvana. But seriously all coverage misses one of those things and it all falls apart.

One of the worst things is the reliance lately on ex-drivers for commentary. Some, like Jackie Stewart, are good at it. Most aren't, because you have to be part stupid to drive a race car for a living.

And Tommy Kendall has been fun to listen to just because TK is a pretty fun guy. Sidenote, final episodes of season 1 of NASCAR 360 tonight at 9 pm est 6 pm pst. I really enjoyed how good Lionheart was in the booth. The sad thing is, it took me hearing him calling races to fully appreciate how awesome the guy really was. ![]() Dario too. I'm hoping he has a successful end to his career and winds up as the Color guy soon. Part of me wonders how Helio would do as well. I think he'd be a great pit reporter/grid walk guy. The one missed opportunity that kind of pissed me off for some bizarre reason was during the Brickyard, I saw that they had "Briscoe" covering the week there. I was like "Alright, they're going to Ryan to give a little bit of IndyCar insight on the race!, maybe I'll watch to see how he'll do with it". No, no, it was just his wife. .

Grand Prix was pretty great too. I guess prior to such technology was invented, it was pretty much the first media to use on board cameras. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rch3c3VwdVg https://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&...Gs&feature=fvwp Monza circa 1966 looked like a loving death trap in that movie. It's what I don't think Stallone got when making "Driven", there's good enough storylines you could pick at, good enough racing action you could recreate to make a good movie. You shouldn't be using CGI with unrealistic physics to make that piece of poo poo movie. I did post "Driven" in speed vids, but with a disclaimer that it's to only be viewed in a humorous light, and to go track down "Le Mans", and "Grand Prix" if you want a legit representation of racing in film. Or wait until "Rush" comes out in 2013.

In terms of racing movies (and being reminded of it during Squidbillies chat in Synchtube the other night), I would legitimately watch Six Pack if we could find it. I never knew about it until "Terminus Trouble", where Sheriff refers to it twice & still haven't seen it. Also, is the bell ringing/"Attention: We 'ave an accident" announcement a real thing at Le Mans, or just something really irritating that they created for the movie?

It's worth it just to see what the 80's considered to be a dirt late model. Now we all know the wedge and lexan cars from the Prelude to the Dream, but that's what they looked like back in the early 80's. Really, only a year or three away from turning into the more familiar wedge.
