![]() Welcome to EVE Online the TABLE OF CONTENTS
What is EVE Online? ~ Print courtesy of Endie Eve Online is the greatest Sci-Fi simulator in existence. It's the single biggest virtual world ever created. It's a sociopathic bloodbath in space and it is a playpen for the strong, ready-stocked with the naive and foolish upon whom to prey. It is also a place where you can join up with thousands of your fellow Goons, some of them joining alongside you, some of them having played for years. We'll give you the ships to fly, the skills to train, the mentors to show you what to do and the Fleet Commanders to lead you to victory. You are cossetted from the moment you join Goonwaffe to the moment you discover girls and leave. Together, we wreak havoc upon our enemies, conquering regions of the game and tossing our enemies out of the places they called their homes. We create events so big that the press - gaming and traditional - write about us. Sometimes on purpose and sometimes not: when we fought (rather unwisely) in a system called Asakai we ended up with three thousand people in a single battle, killing and losing eye-watering numbers of ships. Mostly losing in that case but we'll gloss over that. Why is EVE Special? Eve is unique. It's dark and dangerous; beautiful and spiteful: an MMO without the training wheels. Eve is driven by the players and by the stories we make. No game fosters grudges and conflict like Eve. We fought a five year war - a five year war we won against the strongest forces in the game spanning most of the Eve universe and involving as many as a hundred thousand players at one time or another - because of one ill-advised attack on us in 2006. That war touched the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal, but it will probably be dwarfed in scale by our next great war. In Eve, you share a single game world with half a million other characters, each with a person behind them. Players make pretty much everything in the game, taking resources from asteroids, planets and moons to make the ships in which we fight and the stations over which we go to war. You train skills offline, so there is no grind. Anyone who undocks their spaceship is fair game for PvP, and the scale and ambition of the game - ships tens of kilometres long; a universe of thousands of planets, many thousands of light years across and so on - is staggering. Eve is a like nothing else you can play. I'm a Returning Player: Why Should I sign Up? Eve is now a Very Good Game. For years, in these recruitment threads, we used to say that Eve was a bad game but that Goons made it fun. The amazing thing is that CCP have managed to fix Eve Online. The lag that used to make fleet fights unplayable is managed with their time dilation technology so that a thousand-man fight is nothing out of the ordinary, with your ship and its weapons responsive and smooth. Supercapitals have been fixed: gone are the days of unbalanced, area-effect doomsdays and invulnerable supercarriers. Now, subcapitals are almost immune to supercapitals, which instead need their smaller brethren for support. The "T1" ships that take days to learn to fly - cruisers and frigates - have been rebalanced and made, frankly, brilliant fun. One of our Fleet Commanders in particular - Mister Vee - has made an art form of humiliating enemies with fleets of missile-spewing Caracals backed up with electronic warfare and logistics ("priest") ships that a newbie can fly within days. Faction ships are being fixed in the next patch, while new faction battleships will join other additions to the game like extra destroyers and overgunned, tier three battlecruisers from recent patches. The game is visually gorgeous now, with CCP having enhanced both graphics and sound to make Eve into a stunning-looking experience. Take a look at this recent trailer for the game to see the level of detail that has been added. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hX0p0irEOls Is There Some Sort Of Manual? Why yes, there is! I'm glad you asked that! In the absence of any useful documentation of the game at all, Goons have created the finest manual ever seen in Eve Online. GoonWaffe Newbie Guide 2013 In addition to this GoonWaffe has a team of mentors whose job it is to guide you through your first days and weeks in the game, and squads who will take you under their wings as you develop. If you hang out in the Goonswarm jabber server you will always have help and advice at hand, while our forums and wiki are unparalleled in the world of MMOs. Your ships will be handed to you at first and, as you decide to fly more varied and advanced hulls, your losses will be paid for. Goonswarm is perhaps the wealthiest alliance in the game, and they spend it all on our members. Can I play for free There are two main ways to pay for your account. One is to pay money as normal. The other is to use in-game currency to buy a month's subscription from someone who has paid cash for it with an item called a Pilot's Extension License or commonly referred to as PLEX. They get in-game money, and you get to play for another month. Scam someone for a billion ISK - not an unusual amount - and you can play for a couple of months and have money left over for some new ships. What is the grind like? You improve your character by setting a skill and letting it train away, even if you are offline. While you sleep, your character is training up for your next ship. No ten hour sessions camping a spawn spot to level up. Where can I find out the latest news about what is going on in EVE Online? Goonswarm Federation alliance leader, The Mittani, launched an EVE News site that has quickly become the #1 EVE news site in the World. Known for quality, ungoony writing (lol) and a wide range of gaming topics it has everything to get you up to speed on what is going on in EVE or any of the more popular online games. http://www.themittani.com Are there any trials so that I can try the game out? Why yes I am glad you asked - you can try the game for 21 days by clicking one of these three links: https://secure.eveonline.com/trial/...36&action=buddy https://secure.eveonline.com/trial/...a8&action=buddy https://secure.eveonline.com/trial/...13&action=buddy vyst fucked around with this message at Apr 15, 2013 around 19:03 |

Goon-centric EVE Online Alliances Goonswarm Federation: GoonWaffe ![]() GoonWaffe Recruitment Drive 2013! “Then I heard another voice from heaven say: ‘Woe! Woe to you, great city, you mighty city of Babylon! In one hour your doom has come!’ “The merchants who sold these things and gained their wealth from her will stand far off, terrified at her torment… They will weep and mourn and cry out.” – Rev 18 It is time for a new Goonswarm Eve Online newbie drive: your chance to join the longest-lasting and most successful alliance in Eve, in Goon MMO history, and possibly in the annals of MMOs, ever since a geek first said to another geek "nice +1 sword noob". And to baptise you in viciously sadistic fun from the very beginning of your Eve career, we are laying on the most destructive period of sustained brutality against helpless, unprotected but extremely voluble victims in the history of the game. The biggest player-created MMO event ever, with thirty thousand willing participants and a hundred thousand clueless, hapless and extremely unwilling marks. If you join up today, you have time – just – to join in. Burn Jita II ![]() In Eve Online, almost every single item in the game is produced, shipped and sold by players. Many have spent thousands of hours building up their inventory, amassed over years of playing Eve, and almost all of it will pass through a single system in the game at one point: Jita. Packed daily with thousands of buyers and sellers, couriers and haulers, this one solar system is the hub for trade and the beating heart of life in Eve Online itself. And in 2012, Goonswarm and our allies, for a weekend, tormented, tortured and burned this system for a weekend, destroying tens of thousands of dollars’ worth of the most prized possessions. Now we’re going to do it again, but better. We will be running multiple fleets in Jita and in surrounding systems, each packed with Goons and our allies and ready to pounce on eye-wateringly expensive freighters, jump freighters, haulers, rare faction ships, prized special edition hulls and even the basic pods of those who think they can avoid our attention. Scouts will watch every trade route to and from the target. Neutral alliances from outlying lawless space will temporarily become our allies in order to inflict further woes on our shared targets. The first time we did this, half the game screamed out that we were cheaters, scammers, exploiters, working to destroy the game and called for us to be banned. Last time, they saw nothing. This time, we’re doing it [i]properly[i/] and their misery and suffering will be glorious. You do not want to miss Burn Jita II. Join Eve Online on a two week free trial at the link at the bottom of the first post in this thread. Apply to Goonwaffe by following this guide. Start training and join, for free, in the greatest infliction of harm and cruelty in the history of gaming. Why Should I Join Goonswarm? You can have little idea how horrible it is to play with pubbies. Really. Playing with people to whom "fail" is an adjective, the apostrophe a tool to denote plurals, and homophones some sort of obscure slur is bad enough, but they will also see you as little more than a source of taxes and, if they have forums, you should expect sufficient cat pictures to gag a 4channer. Join Goonswarm (which for complicated and inglorious reasons is technically known as Goonwaffe) and you will be a Goon amongst thousands of Goons. Yes, most of the rest of the game will by turns despise, hate and fear you, but Eve is a lot more fun when played to the accompaniment of some horrible publord explaining on the official forums how you are the cancer that is killing the game. Preferably because you scammed him out of hundreds of dollars' worth of ships. Once you have a little more training under your belt we will buy you a capital ship, at no cost to yourself. No other alliances in the game have anything like this level of support for their players, because none of them are run for Goons, by Goons. We and our allies hold the northern quarter of the universe, including most of the best and richest space in the game. The rest of the game, admittedly, wishes to destroy us and take everything we have, but that has been the case for three years, and every attempt has failed thus far. Big changes to the game are on the way, however, and it's impossible to tell where we will be in a few months' time! GoonWaffe FAQ: IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS ABOUT ANYTHING NOT COVERED HERE EMAIL newbies@goonfleet.com Against All The Odds I'm In Now What? Yet again, there is a wiki page full of helpful advice. Key amongst these is to follow the advice on how to crack Eve's unwillingness to let you talk to others and open the GS_Help channel. Any Other Advice? Don't be a solipsist: let Goons help you. Don't try and work it out alone. Most especially, get someone to help you get into a fight: a fleet fight or a suicide gank or just about anything. Get some kills and you'll find it hard to stop. Am I eligible to join Goonswarm? All we ask is that you are a Something Awful member with a decent post history over a reasonable amount of time on these forums. If you do join SA just to play with us that's fine: just make sure that you make an intro post in this thread telling us how many skillpoints you have, linking to your killboard on eve-kill or battleclinic so that our recruitment staff can take a look, and letting us know in a couple of paragraphs (no more than five hundred words, please!) why you want to fly with us in the GoonWaffe Director's subforum FYAD. I'm having trouble with the registration process! CCP changed the API interface with the addition of 'vCodes' and this may reveal some bugs in our registration process. If you are having problems email newbies@goonfleet.com with a detailed description of who the gently caress you are (goonfleet Username, SA username) and what the problem is. ------------------------------- GROON (The Greater Goon) If GoonFleet is the place to be for epic fleet fights, political backstabbing, and general metagaming hijinks, Groon is the place for kicking back and doing whatever you want while giving no fucks about any of that. We don't have any stakes in anything remotely similar to Serious Eve Business and don't intend to do so, ever. Groon was, is, and will always be a place where goons can count on being welcome to hang out and shoot random people with no matter how new to eve or how bittervet they are. What we love doing most of all is gathering some folks to roam around with to shoot random dudes in the evegoon spiritual home of Syndicate where we live; the average Groon fleets are way smaller than you'd see with GoonFleet, 15-20 being typical. We mix things up with several kinds of fleets to fly with, below are a few examples of fights we've gotten into lately. http://droog.rwpcomputers.com/?a=ki...ed&kll_id=35558 http://droog.rwpcomputers.com/?a=ki...ed&kll_id=35652 http://droog.rwpcomputers.com/?a=ki...ed&kll_id=35613 (oh also our killboard autoposts pve losses because we like laughing at hilarious lossmails more than we care about MY K/D EFFICIENCY) Newbies to eve are welcome and showered with ships, skillbooks, love, and bodily fluids. Since we don't have any Serious Business to worry about, we also don't care about having strict entry requirements - no postcount or joindate shenanigans required, if you can post in this thread you can join. European Goonion and Space Violence are definitely the best squads. Join them and hang out with all the cool people on Jabber. The rest of the post is directly ripped from an old post by Christian Ethic Christian Ethic posted: quote:
Being in itself posted: quote:For those of you still on the fence about signing up because you're worried about paying for a MMO, bite the bullet and come play. Oh right, I should quantify how much 1bn isk is- It's enough to pay for two months subscription with some change to spare. quote: quote:Old School Stahlregen agitprop. quote: quote:Dicswarm (Interdiction Squad) WWII pacific theatre themed material. quote: quote:More recent artwork relating to Chairman-For-Life Mittani winning the CSM Space Throne. quote: quote:Poluketes' amazing papyrus story tapestries. I actually spotted him earlier in the thread debating whether or not to return. I said yes, If only to make more of this. ONTO THE VIDEOS! This is every eve related film I have ever created In order of oldest to newest, Obviously the early ones are quite poo poo compared to the ones at the bottom of the list. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_5puGFPq3Sc The very first propaganda video I ever made: features a shout-out to the founding fathers. 99% of the ships in it aren't even goons as we were literally just a couple dozen dudes in rifters back then with absolutely no loving clue. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CqSZ6r7LCH0 August 2006: Syndicate set to johnny cash. Back in the days when solo PVP actually existed. Funny thing to note; unlike pretty much all my later videos in which the PVP is more often than not faked- this poo poo is real, Just me as a newbie cruising around ganking scrubs and frapsing it. Check out the black censor bars hiding our goonie hax. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iT1jN8C16tY September 2006: An entirely PVE showing off some of the NPCs and environments of the game. Also the first time I used Nine Inch Nails for the soundtrack. Ever since this it became a long-running and effortless gimmick to troll me about using NIN. It's cool to look back on this and see the evolution of Stahl videos- I think this is where I finally got the hang of actually editing them properly. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xkRTS7ju1rI October 2006: Widely accepted as the best Stahl agitprop video despite it's age and numerous technical and editing flaws. The first Goonswarm video to feature actual capital combat. You will notice a trend where my videos begin to focus more on massed fleet engagement and sov grind. Most of the actual fighting in this is entirely faked, directed by me specifically for the camera. I won a sick glass laser-modelled award for this one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NfnOJlmpU0U November 2006: From this point on my videos start to get a bit Meta, referencing Kubrick films and pop culture ect. Again even more faked combat, Making videos for me starts to become more about editing and visual set-pieces rather than actual substance. The first signs of a narrative is also there. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gmcqEwX6tEc December 2006: Intended as a humorous tribute to Deaken Fiss, an old-school goon FC. My computer died halfway through making this and I actually gave up on completing. This is a rough draft- there are place-holders and entirely missing scenes. I think this is right when the tier 3 BC's first got introduced. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jm0FINSfV0Y January 2007: Another semi-humorous propaganda film with characters from Dr. Strangelove lip-synching Pink Floyd. The Interstellar Starship Something was the last of the purely industrial alliances. From now on in Eve 0.0 space is only for the strong. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IDr182CXeL0 February 2007: I ate a stupid amount of acid when making this one- I think it tells too. Perhaps one of my least favourite (probably due to the retrospective feelings I have about the amount of drugs I was consuming at the time.) Again, more kubrick. The first aborted titan ever captured on film. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iyIjMFGqcQo GALAXY IN FLAMES March 2007: The start of the failed Delve War I where we had finally got done chewing through the pathetic meatshields BoB was throwing at us and started to make our first assaults on BoB home-systems. It practically exudes angst and nerd rage. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6KFMkVAw4eM REDSWARM FEDERATION August 2007: Only the second film to have a NIN soundtrack (s my d trolls) Intended as a propaganda piece for the Redswarm Federation power block consisting of Red Alliance, Goonswarm and Tau Ceti Federation (french dudes). Entirely fake, no real combat whatsoever. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ObGQ_84itY EYE OF TERROR] October 2007: This was made during our incursions into yet more BoB meatshields that replaced the ones we previously murdered. The eye of terror was the Goonswarm jump bridge network allowing us to travel from our home systems directly into the heart of enemy space only to return home just as easily. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e2Sye46MEUk GOONSWARM DOCTRINE: The Geminate campaign and Karttoon Jihadswarm era. Quite polished but lacking in substance, everything is as you can probably tell, fake as hell. Another Kubrick reference. More NIN. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X_D60N8ogkQ FOREIGN LEGION BOMBER WING 01: A short video showing off bombing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zfPnhGsUVx8 FOREIGN LEGION BOMBER WING 02: I believe this is one of the most successful bombing engagements in Eve History 169 kills 9 losses. Too bad you can't see poo poo due to lag and me trying to concentrate on bombing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jzxY4kiz_lg EVE ONLINE - GOONSWARM: A personal favorite. Easily one of the best I've ever done. Delve War II sov grind. A lot of CGI and custom made out-of-game effects and graphics. Rockin' Jane's Addiction sound track. One of the last time's you'll see the mish-mash non-doctrine goon fleets. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fVX6xaMr-YU GOONSWARM FEDERATION 2011: This is my magnum opus, with no in-game footage whatsoever and instead entirely animated in the style of the old homeworld cutscenes. A fairy-tale story of Goons in Eve. Full of self-aggrandising, pseudo-intellectual, double-speak bullshit. Unfortunately I was rushed to finish it and will at some point have to go back and re-edit the last minute or so as it's a bit messy. Basically as a new pilot you want to join space violence. Time and time again we have taken the newest players the squad has and take them to kill some of the largest ships in the game. One newbee Fixey on his first day killed at least 7 guys, including a capital ship and even accidentally caught a covert hauling ship! Another newbee Opti ended up scamming a guy and we formed a fleet to kill that guys carrier! Opti has even scammed enough isk to buy himself a higher skillpoint pilot. Our newest newbee Bort also had the most successful first day in eve ever, he managed to be part of a small gang that killed a titan class space vessel (the largest in the game). We love newbees and i hope to see you in space!

Is there a way to get and buy a PLEX, or do I need to throw CCP some cash? CCP bends over backwards to get back paying customers if you don't know the account information.

Now that Togoon has been "Fixed" I'd like to at some point in the future put the squads together for some hammer and anvil work.

So I started playing STO with dental a while ago and still enjoy it immensely but the grind is starting to wear me down. I've been toying with the idea of starting playing this game but I have a few questions: How soon after starting will I be able to actually fly my ship and understand the game? I hear the learning curve is pretty steep. How soon after starting will I be able to ruin everyone's day and laugh my rear end off at someone else's expense? This is pretty much my only motivation for wanting to play. I have an addictive personality and very little self-control. How likely is this game to ruin my life? For those of you who have played STO, how does the game compare? Will I have to pay any money to play this game?

Day 1 you can piss people off and laugh. You can spend your entire day doing this poo poo. If you're good at scamming, you'll never pay a dime. There's a free trial, and if you can scam/earn a half a billion a month, you play for free by buying game time with in game cash.

Keep in mind: once you fail to do so, this option will be disabled for future use.

I don't know about buying plex without an active account though.

If you either can't be bothered scamming/aren't any good at it, then you will only realistically have to pay for maybe 2 or 3 months after trial. In that time, if you follow the Space Violence 60 day plan (do it) then you will get yourself into a pretty good PvE Talos, which is currently basically one of the best ships to PvE in. To get a 21 day trial, click the following link: https://secure.eveonline.com/trial/...1e&action=buddy (EDIT: and If you do sub and I get a reward, I will half the ISK from it.) mehall fucked around with this message at Dec 12, 2012 around 16:44 |

When STO started to die I realized I needed more goon antics in space so I joined up with Goonwaffe. To answer your questions: 1. A day or two in you'll get your first really "Useful" ship. 2. Topgoon's favorite newbee has scammed his way up to two billion isk already, he's six days old. That's enough isk to plex his account and play for free for the next 3-4 months. 3. This game is hit or miss. Can you stand hours of boredom in anticipation in exchange for 20 minutes of some of the most intense moments modern gaming has to offer? The setup time for almost anything is high, but the payoffs are huge. Half of the fun of this game is the metagame, and the constant terror that the goon name brings to people. 4. Apples and car stereos. STO was very action oriented, eve is more of a constant game of tactics/strategy. Is that hurricane artillery fit? Better spiral down to him and get in under his guns. Is he auto-cannon fit? Better let someone heavier tackle him. Oh he's got mining lasers? Why? Kill him. 5. That's up to you. I pay money for it because I hate talking to pubbies, and I'd rather spend all my time deployed killing people than PVE'ing myself up enough money to afford it.

I would like to take a minute to repost what I posted in the last thread as the topic has come up a couple of times now: Hello fellow newbies and people thinking of joining Space Violence (do it). 3 days ago, I was just like you probably are. Unsure of what to do, not knowing if you'll 'fit in' or 'be accused of being a pubbie spy and then kicked out for saying something dumb and oh god what if these people don't like me and-' But I joined anyway. YOLO, etc. On my first day, I found some other newbies, we fleeted up and went out and ratted for almost an hour. It was pretty fun! We got to engage in a nice, no pressure group activity and get space monies in return, while flipping out about big scary red-flashing battleships. Last night (day 2!) I got drunk and decided "I AM JOINING A REAL OP NOW!" and truth be told, it was a tiny bit boring. We roamed around syndicate for a bit, I got shown the ins and outs syndicate travel while koshka_narkotikov gave us good pointers and was unbelievably tolerant of a fleet holding a bunch of newbies asking dumb questions and generally getting lost, left behind, and being obnoxious. By the time it was time go rep the POS I was, I believe, the last of the newbies- the rest having logged out and gone to bed as it was getting really late. We're repping the POS. Well, they are repping the POS and I'm just sitting here, listening in mumble and spinning my camera around. More drink WHAT THE gently caress NOW THERE'S A CARRIER WHAT AM I DOING OH GOD SHOULD I SHOOT AT IT? YES OK I WILL SHOOT AT IT- http://www.eve-kill.net/?a=kill_detail&kll_id=15463012 HOLY poo poo EVERYONES SCREAMING ABOUT AN EREBUS I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT THAT IS SHOOOOOOT IIIIIIIT http://www.eve-kill.net/?a=kill_detail&kll_id=15463126 Now accepting newbie of the month nominations http://www.eve-kill.net/?a=pilot_detail&plt_id=1510781 ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN gently caress YOU JOIN SPACE VIOLENCE
