I dismissed it because I thought it was router or network issue initially but now it's starting to become bullshit because it's something on Live's end. Oh hey, this happened to me, too. Only once so far, I just figured it was a random bug.

Is it possible / advisable to leave the hard drive from my old 360 hooked up to my Slim via the transfer cable and use the data off of it? I cheaped out and got the 4GB model because my old one red-ringed on me today.

You'll just need to secure it from wobbling around in there.

I'm debating doing the 4 GB + old drive 'upgrade' myself, as I have two Xboxes currently: a 4-year old 120GB Elite that's still creaking along, and a 4GB Slim I got this summer as part of MS's back to school promo. I'd held off on swapping it out because the drive is 4 years old and I figured if I put a drive in it I'd rather use a new one, but I play most games on PC now (and I'll probably be buying the new Xbox coming this fall) so I figure why the hell not. I did have a question though: if I take the drive off the Elite but still want to use it for Netflix and the like, I'll have to use a USB drive, right? Are there any problems with running video streaming apps off a USB drive?

Right now, I have a 360 Elite wirelessly connected to an ASUS RT-N13U. When I shut off my 360, it kills the internet on the router and I have to reset the router in order to resume using the internet on my other devices. Anybody else have this problem?

That's pretty awesome. I can see it being useful for adding an extra bit of spatial awareness (as opposed to actually using it as a map or anything), but I really can't see that as a released item unless there's some sort of revolution in projector tech/prices.

Yeah, I think that is really neat, but I don't think it is mounting a 1k projector and running cords to it in a room where I'm already using a TV neat.

More peripherals! The worst part is that you can't even avoid this poo poo by not buying it because developers have to shoehorn in useless gimmicks that detract from the rest of gaming. "Better with Kinect", my rear end

Frankly I wish the voice recognition was more prevalent in all non-gaming areas of the UI, it's annoying to watch netflix and be able to verbally command it, but put in a DVD and no dice.

I don't have a problem with it accidentally doing anything since the Kinect can't recognize loving jack poo poo without the volume at mute. It's ridiculous. It's impossible to use any voice commands with normal game volumes. Makes the feature absolutely worthless.

I think this might be a user error situation or a game developer issue because with the Kinect properly calibrated, I had no problem using voice commands in ME3 with a surround sound home theater setup cranked up to a fairly loud volume. The tech is sound.

Setting up the audio calibration is vital, though, and if you didn't do that, were sloppy/hurried about doing it, or if you maybe have an air conditioner or other loud device running nearby, it may not recognize you at all.

If the TV is too loud I have to cup my hands and raise my voice at it or turn down the volume, but it works brilliantly. Yeah, I find that I need to rerun the calibration if I change the volume in the room up or down by about ten decibals to get the best results. I always had fun shouting at Garrus, though.

If you change the volume by a wide enough margin, it's not going to work right. I mean, you don't have to change it every time and your mileage may vary, but that's just the way it works.

I just calibrate it at the highest volume I'm likely to play at, works perfectly for me. The real killer is changes to the acoustics of your room, moving speakers, furniture, whatever.

Speaking of Netflix stuff, is there an easy way to stream from say your living room to your bedroom? Thats my setup because I have the Xbox in another room so I can hard connect it to my router and so the kids can play it. But I'd like to be able to watch Netflix and stuff in the bedroom.

Short of running an HDMI cable from your living room to your bedroom, you actually need some sort of player connected to the other TV to make it work. If all you want is Netflix, you can pick up one of a myriad of basic devices that will have Netflix support and WiFi for ~$50.

coyo7e posted:Haha that's awesome, no option to disable I assume. My roommate tends to be pretty loud and he randomly sets off the xbox commands, but I haven't played any games where the Kinect was required or would do stuff I didn't want (I skipped it in ME3, and avoided poo poo that that ghost recon future soldier game like the plague). I generally like the 'Better with Kinect' implementations thus far, particularly Skyrim's, but it is a little annoying that if I'm ever not playing by myself in certain games (like Mass Effect 3) I basically have to turn off the Kinect in the dashboard menus before I start up a game. I don't mind optional voice commands in the least if you make enabling/disabling them less of a hassle (e.g., you can toggle voice commands in Skyrim's start menu, while in ME3 they're always on so long as your Kinect is on too).

Ironically I like the Kinect features in the "Better with Kinect" games or voice-controlling Netflix than the actual Kinect games that require the sensor. I'm still not going to pay $150 to yell at my tv to avoid button presses in Skyrim or Mass Effect 3, but if they made a dumbed down version that was just voice controls I could be tempted.

How do the Netflix controls work? Do they allow you to avoid using that awful keyboard? I can't even begin to fathom how they thought a horizontal a-z layout was a good idea, or why it's necessary in the first place when the global xbox keyboard would have been passable
