A card with funds that can only be spent at the place that sold it to you is not the same as money.

I can't believe how expensive new controllers are. Are there any decent cheaper third party ones that I can get in the UK? Edit: Also I wish more of the sites I've looked at had how long the wire for the wired controller is. Geokinesis fucked around with this message at May 16, 2013 around 15:09 |

Quick question, I need to buy a slim hard drive and I've come across this one on Amazon. Aside from not being able to play original xbox games, is this drive fine otherwise? http://www.amazon.com/120GB-Interna...=A3U3JJYGD7YYL1

Nah, it's a gift for my younger sister. She got a 4gb system for Christmas. She has no interest in original xbox games but needs a drive for some DLC she wants.

Flash drives have been pretty iffy for me. Some work fine, some don't work at all, and some will randomly unformat themselves.

They pass the 360's little formatting test and have been great. I have no experience with any larger capacity USB drives on the 360 as for a long time 16GB was the max. http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Flash...=usb+drive+16gb

I’ve got a question regarding an idea I’ve been having about possibly replacing my cable box with Windows Media Center on my 360: I’ve got digital cable through Cox, and lately my cable box (HD DVR) has been glitching a lot. During both live and recorded TV, the picture will freeze up for a few seconds, and then when it resumes, the image is all distorted for a second or 2 before it returns to normal. This has only started happening recently, and I could get over it if it only happened once in a while, but it’ll happen at least a couple times during any given episode now. I thought maybe it might be the cable connection at my house going bad, but there are 2 other cable boxes in this house and they’re both fine, so I'm inclined to believe it's the box that's bad. I could go to the local Cox office and ask them for a new box, but I’ve actually already done that before because of other issues and I'd rather not have to keep doing that every time I have a problem with my cable box. Now, an idea that seems like the easiest fix to me is to just get an HDHomeRun (network-attached HDTV tuner) and set it up to where I can use Windows Media Center on my 360 as, essentially, my new cable box. Does anyone here have experience with doing this? Is this a practical solution for me? The cheapest HDHomeRun is $90, so not incredibly expensive, and if this idea is a good one, I don’t think that’s too much to spend to have a functioning cable box (which would be my 360).

If you have digital cable you'll want the one that takes Cablecards. You might want to make sure Cox gives out Cablecards first, although I'm pretty sure all US cable providers do. This is the one I have, Newegg was doing a deal where they included a 1.5TB hard drive back when I got it: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...N82E16815345006 You may think that you don't need three tuners, but considering that it effectively turns any PC in your house into a TV as well, you'll probably find plenty of things to watch and/or record. Personally, I picked up another used 360 on the cheap just to replace my other cable box, since the $70 I spent on it will pay for itself in a year against the $6/month the cable company robs me of to use theirs. The only thing you're gonna want to make sure of is that if you have your 360 connected wirelessly, make sure you've got a good router, because without a good connection Windows Media Center will lag like a motherfucker.

raditts posted:I did this in December and I've been evangelizing for it whenever I get the chance. Awesome, thanks! ![]() What's the need for the Cable Card, though? My current cable box accepts them but I don't have one. So would I be missing out on anything by just getting the Dual one, the one without Cable Card input? The Dual only has 2 tuners instead of 3 (and it's close to $100 cheaper), and I'm planning on only using the 360 with the HDHomeRun. I don't have any laptops here, and if I'm using it on my 360, I'm not going to want to use it on my desktop at the same time. So I think I'd be okay with just 2 tuners, right? And my router is a Netgear WNDR4500 dual band 450mbps+450mbps router that I just bought a few months ago. It's pretty good. I've always had a strong Xbox Live connection with it. If I run into problems with WMC though, I could always connect my 360 through a wired connection. I don't have to have it connected wirelessly, I just do because I have the adapter and it was easier than running another cable all the way across my house

The Cablecard decodes the digital channels, all the ones you wouldn't normally be able to get by just sticking the cable directly into your TV. You have your cable company link it to your account so it knows which channels you are and aren't supposed to get (like premium channels, for instance). Speaking of which, you probably won't be able to get On Demand using an HDHomerun, if that matters to you. I can't get it but I've never used an On Demand interface or selection that's not dogshit so it doesn't matter to me. Just get a 1-2TB hard drive and record up your own on demand library, whatever PC you use to extend to your 360 is now magically a DVR!

I'll just try to get a Cablecard from Cox before buying the HDHomeRun. And I really couldn't care less about my OnDemand selection. Mine's never been all that good, and the interface is terrible to boot. My girlfriend has AT&T UVerse plus all the premium channels, so her OnDemand rules because there's always something to watch over at her house, even if nothing good is on TV at the moment. Not so with mine! But I've been building my BluRay library up recently, so not having OnDemand access at all wouldn't really be a bummer to me anyway. Thanks for your help I'm sure I'll report back in here once I've got it all successfully installed.
