Hmm. So I guess the only other question that remains to be asked is whether you can use an American XBL card in Canada. Are they locked down by country or by region or what? Cause I'm going to have someone pick one up for me if I can use it here in the great white north.

If you go through it will refuse to sell unless you have a US account. I'm trying to figure out how to switch my account to US right now. I don't know if I need to use a VPN or what. e: Just use a USA billing address. I put in the address I used to live at like seven years ago and it worked fine. Thanks for that. Already have a US address set up for e-books that aren't available to the region. From memory you don't need a real address, just as long as the postcode is legit. Edit: Worked fine using a fake US address. Nibbles141 fucked around with this message at Jan 30, 2013 around 06:06 |

Probably a stupid question, but Live subscription codes don't expire at all, correct?

I think this is an appropriate question for here: This morning, netflix (in the UK at least) has sent an update out which seems to poo poo the bed pretty badly with regards to TV shows. Normally when an episode ended, it'd give you the option to start the next one until you reached the end of the series. Since this update though, it just shows recommended other shows at the end of an episode, and if you exit back to the main interface and reopen the show, it just shows the last episode you watched again. Is there anyway to revert to the old version or fix this one so it actually works properly?

Charles Martel posted:Probably a stupid question, but Live subscription codes don't expire at all, correct? I don't believe so, but they also stack. So if you've got 2 months left on your current Gold, then add a 12-month card to your account, you'll have 14 months of Gold. There's no real harm in just entering it now unless you've got other reasons to wait.

Christ, just got this update in the US. I thought it was kinda lovely when they got rid of the episode list and launched right into playing but this is just aggressively bad design. No possible way to go to the next episode from the end of one, you have to back out to the menu, select the show again, wait for it to load the old episode, then go to select the next episode. In case you thought "More Episodes" was still convenient and started at the current episode, but nah, S1E1. e: Kinect no longer recognizes "Next Episode". It's like auto-starting the next episode wasn't ideal, so their solution was making accessing the next episode horrendously lovely to compensate JawnV6 fucked around with this message at Jan 30, 2013 around 17:53 |

It does auto-play the next episode. Sometimes. Other times it punts you to an ad for a Netflix Original without any way to get back. I dunno, maybe a few of my issues were first-time things, but I'm still quite annoyed at the lengths they're going to just to shove Netflix Originals in my face.

BonoMan posted:Screw that. Wait, see what Sony unveils, determine weaknesses, make sure Xbox fills those weaknesses, exploit during your own conference date TBD. Well that's kind of what Sony did last time. 'Well um we've got TWO video out ports! So that's twice as good as Xbox! And three ethernet ports! Oh and here's a motion controller because we heard Nintendo are doing one of those'. Now it's too late for hardware changes though. But Microsoft are supposedly looking at not announcing anything for another couple of months at least after Sony, but probably something before E3. A few more details about both systems are leaking out, apparently Sony announcing their announcement is prompting developers to be a bit more loose lipped. Really it sounds like the two machines are nigh-on identical spec-wise, with a slight advantage in GPU to the PS4. Third party developers working on both platforms though are going to end up having stuff look more or less identical on both systems as usual, and each first party side is going to eek out some more effects and stuff from their respective systems so it'll probably be a wash in practical terms. It's all about the supplemental features. Sure wiz-bang graphics will be shown, but MS will be pushing Kinect 2 hard and Sony will have their partial touch-pad controller and new Move/Eyetoy (they're not giving up on that) and whatever else they're both doing. There have been rumors of an in-HDMI port on the Xbox as well which some have taken as evidence of a possible DVR functionality, but my tip is MS are doing something more like Google TV, you plug your DVR/cable box into the Xbox, then that into the TV, and then they can overlay channel guides along with all their supplemental Xbox Live based programming etc right on the TV all the time, which you know they want to do - the problem stopping further uptake of using the Xbox services for entertainment is you have to go to that whole step of turning it on and switching over to it, if it is controlling and passing through your DVR/cable box then it's all there already, it's just like changing channels to watch something on Live. Edit: Yeah 8gb seems to be almost certain for PS4 now as well, devs pushing real hard for that, part of making things much more equal, makes their lives so much easier. I wouldn't put it past them to "lose" the indie games store between consoles, but XNA drives Windows Phone app development too, and there's no way they're ditching that already. I'm sure they'll be coming out with something similar later, and the tools are good enough as they are for now, but it still seems incredibly stupid to pretty much announce "we don't care about these things any more". They MUST know the common interpretation will be "don't bother using them".

So here's an odd thing, I had gotten Star Wars: The Force Unleashed recently cause I hadn't tried it and I saw it was 5 bucks. It worked fine for a while, about 2-3 weeks, then just displayed a black screen when I turned it on recently. So I exchanged it for another disc, that one is just a black screen too. I tried installing it and it doesn't work that way either. I can hear the disc spinning if it's not installed and the system recognizes it as the right game. All other games work without problem. Is this game just known to be cranky?

I have a question on the uDraw 360 tablet if anyone knows the answer: Outside of the two uDraw 360 titles that were made for it, can anything about the tablet be unofficially used in any other games or for Xbox functionality at all? I'm not expecting anything awesome, just if something like the tilt/tablet features translate into analog stick movements to experiment with some arcade or indie games, or if I can use the tablet and pen to control dashboard stuff, etc.
