I started HOI 2 with Russia since it doesn't need a navy or strong air force to succeed, yet actually has enough interesting gameplay that you're not off in South America doing nothing the whole game while you learn. Is that still the case here?

in HoI3 you need to prepare properly for when the germans come knocking as PhantomZero said. It is also a huge country and might be a little overwhelming the first time you play. My suggestion is usually to try italy first time you play. You get a little war against Ethiopia at the start to get used to the mechanics without worrying about others intervening and you can enter axis roughly whenever you want so you have a lot of control if you want to go slow and learn. Later your main job is going to be to close the mediterranean and not be useless in africa so the germans can do what germans do best (blitz). Then depending on how it goes against the royal navy and africa try and help out with either defending occcupied france, help out with barbarossa if its going badly or plan invasions of UK. You can get similar play with spain as well, but it is lot harder.

what's the studio stance on putting one of your games artwork, for example settlement models from Sengoku (demo) into a Crusader Kings 2 mod?

I'd hazard a guess that it would be no problem since its the demo. If it wasnt a demo it would be a big no-no, or you would need to make it so the player had to copy those files themselves from the sengoku install if for the full game.

EDIT: NO_TEXT_FOR_KEYSTATE cost 0 warscore, but the Brits would take that and not a white peace. It resulted in me losing no land.

ya, NO_KEY thing means that they added a wargoal for a state that doesnt exist. Which is why you dont lose land and it has peace cost 0. I have never seen this happen, is it from a mod?

Switching the general feeling from "Rah Rah! Colonialism!" to "Oh... Colonialism. :smith:" can have a pretty big impact on the play experience. You have to look at this from a standpoint other than one of pure mechanics. I think the problem a lot of people have is that in having colonialism be a primary means of advancement within the game, and by providing no commentary at all on these actions, you're effectively glorifying them. I personally don't think you should go nearly as far as some people are suggesting. But perhaps having EU4 style conditional historical events that at least touch on these subjects without necessarily having much gameplay impact (like many of V2's existing flavor events) would help deglorify colonialism a bit without putting the agency directly in the players' hands (No "push button to commit atrocity"). You wouldn't have to call the player a monster, just describe some events as they happened. It would, at the very least, be more educational.

Making the player feel bad for progressing rather than "hey awesome I painted the map my color!" sounds totally worth it from an educational standpoint. :stonk:

There is a production tab showing you overall production per type of goods if you want to see what artisans are producing, but I dont think it specifies what states there (perhaps top one is listed? cant remember). You can click on the goods icons in the production view as well to see a detail window with graph and info about who is producing and how much. If you want more information you have to fall back to the population screen and sort by artisan size etc

Nah, dominions wont affect it. it will probably even help. Are you trying to build lots of factories early as sweden or something? When I ran a full sweden game last week I had no problems at all, but I waited a while before I started up any industry. The ecnomy is tighter now so if you are just going for military tech or such that can explain it. Getting industry techs is vitally important as well as techs that boost RGO output and mining. When you build factories check input goods and try and build them in places where you produce those inputs and things will get an efficiency bonus. Also, for a smooth economy make sure you subsidize factories until they are running fine. Trying to do early laissez-faire makes things a lot harder, so wait with that.

btw, dont keep your stockpile investment slider on max, its a huge chunk of money you have to invest which can be tough if you are building lots and have no buffer money, half-way is safer.
