Is Victoria 2 multiplayer playable at all? It seems like the economy is unstable enough in singleplayer.

At the very least it shows you its decision modifiers and whether it's rejecting peace because it thinks it's winning, that it can win, or that the AI's losing but pretty sure it's a few days away from pushing your poo poo in. It was a black hole in EU3.

Dr. Video Games 0031 posted:I agree. It was similar to the complaint people had going from Civ 4 to Civ 5. In Civ 4, you always knew why the AI liked or hated you, and it was pretty transparent in its motivations. In Civ V, they obfuscated everything and it felt like you never knew why the AI did any of the things it did, making it really hard to predict and just frustrating. Part of this was because the AI (in the few months after launch) was absolutely awful and really did just behave erratically, but the obfuscation of information didn't help. It's even better when you realize that the Depressed, Lunatic, Possessed, and a few other traits actually do cause the AI to make irrational decisions. An AI lunatic on the throne is a real threat to everyone.

Is HOI3 worth playing yet? I tried playing Arsenal of Democracy but micromanaging a thousand units on two fronts with those tiny little provinces on the EU2 engine is just nuts.

What determines if you continue holding a province after your armies have occupied it and moved on? Do you need to capture the nearest fort?

I'd just change it so that you can lay claims on whoever, but I just went through a whole lot of marriage and murder to get a foothold on Solstheim before I figured out what the criteria were, and I don't want to invalidate that. There's an any_neighbor_province scope you might be able to add to the requirements if you want to restrict it to things you border. I'm not sure if it would work but you can try it.

Conquer the other European states down there. Medium term? Gobble up as much of Africa as you can. Long term? Take over the British Isles. Always max taxes because the efficiency is so bad you don't get a penalty at the start (unless they fixed that). How can I speed up westernization in HoD? I'm a giant Afghanistan steamrolling my neighbors in 1885 and I'm only at 85% westernization. The UK sphered me so I don't make ungodly sums of money off tariffs anymore. Just put NF on Clergymen and keep spending research points to advance education technology?

So I discovered gold in one of my provinces as Imperial Japan in 1836 and now my poor taxes suddenly raised about 1000% and are now £1000/day. Apparently there's enough gold to make 250,000 gold miners insanely rich.

I do like that if an AI character is mentally ill they get an irrationality bonus that makes them even stupider. Speaking of dumb AI, I'm having a lot of trouble with the MEIOU AI. I'm Mecklenburg. I'm allied with Denmark. Lübeck is between me and Denmark. I go to war with Pommerania on a mission CB, the Emperor gets involved even though he's at war with Poland, it's a mess. The drat Danish army, 16,000 strong, won't leave Denmark. The AI won't ask Lübeck for military access so they're stuck there! Once I tagged over and asked for them (it was Very Likely, so a sure thing) they got it and we steamrolled Pommerania. This happens every time I go to war and it's annoying.

In MEIOU, does asking the Emperor for a promotion to prince do anything other than upgrade your title? I've got Mecklenburg up to 5 cities and I'm trying to figure out if it's worth diplo-annexing my (imperial territory) vassal to push me to 6.

Booted up Victoria 2 + PDM for the first time in a while. Yep, Afghanistan's still a steamroller. I haven't lost a war yet. The closest I've come is rump Khiva declaring war on me for the state I took from them and dragging Persia in early on when Persia's army was larger than mine, but they peaced out once I occupied the two provinces that made up Khiva at the time. The dynamic labels are bugged, I formed the Durrani Empire (gray) and the blue part is a Qing breakaway I satellited during the course of my conquests when I noticed the Qing Empire had imploded like always. I think the Sikh Empire AI was wigging out being sandwiched between me and British India, I annexed them and immediately was able to recruit another 10 divisions in Lahore because half the drat province pops were soldiers. Now I'm sandwiched between British India and Russia and at 70% westernization. Afghanistan will rise again Luigi Thirty fucked around with this message at 09:32 on Apr 10, 2014 |

catlord posted:Is there any way to reveal more of the map in EU4 besides the people around me exploring or exploring myself? I imported a game from CK2, and it's now 1525 and I just realised that nobody has the exploration idea. Checking the files, it looks like Alba has it in their historical ideas list, but they seem in no hurry to get it. I made some changes outside of Europe, and I'd like to see how those are panning out, but I'm in a sorta precarious position due to having some rather large countries breathing down my neck. Can I safely edit the historical ideas list partway through the game to get some countries to add it? How does that list work anyway? Map discoveries spread over time (decades), an enemy's capital is revealed if you haven't discovered it, you can explore without a conquistador if you're at war with someone.
