Just fishing this one out there, but is there any interest in maybe having a GunGoon meet n greet in Western Washington? I'm thinking maybe burgers followed by some range-time show/share/tell? Something non-politically charged that's just about the love for wood and steel and polymer? I figure responses could tally up interest, and go from there. Basically I work too much to make friends(and am old, being 35, and married) but would like to meet some fellow shooters and collectors.

We've done open goon meets in the PNW. They were scary and dangerous. We don't do them any more really. Whereabouts are you in Western Washington? It's not a proper goon shoot, but we can always do a small scale pistol shoot at Wades and then go get some beer or something. You can toss me an email at gmail, sixgunstrumpet.

Yeah, I didn't want to just wade in and poo poo on this, especially since I don't live in the PacNW any more ( ), but man the open goon shoots out there got way out of hand after about 2007-ish. Lots of really active TFR people in that area though.

Small meets of 2-4 people seem best after doing some and reading about the more wild ones.

It's weird that people you've never heard of just show up at the shoots and cause trouble. I would feel awkward being there if I was not close online friends with every single attending member, but then again I'm not a shady creeper. I used to go to 4x4 forum meets, and most of the people that were super-active on the forums would show up and barely talk. I would end up having to make most of the chat. I'm afraid that I would have little to say at a Goonmeet if the subject turned to animes and MMOs, so I dunno. I'm in the Key Peninsula/Gig Harbor area. incredibull fucked around with this message at Jan 4, 2013 around 05:16 |

There were also creepy lurker issues at a few also. My new rule of thumb is that I basically don't meet anybody from the internet unless it's for a social type thing (like grabbing a beer). If you seem like you are an OK individual I might go shooting with you next time. If I'm going shooting I limit the group to 3-4 people, tops. I don't care if they're all guys I've been friends with for the last decade, much more than that and it goes from me having fun to me herding cats. Cats with guns.

I've been to only 2 goon shoots here in Cascadia (Oregon chapter) & they were kind of large. One thing that helps keep order (and making friends) is cooking burgers for the people that showed up. Nobody fucks with the cook.

I've been wanting to meet some other TFR goons here in Oregon and maybe do a shoot but I've never gotten around to doing it thanks to crazy work hours and laziness, or getting on the invite list for some of the less public ones ![]() That and I could use someone to critique me on my pistol shooting now that I got a handgun.

Seattle here, totally down for a meet. I have plenty of guns but no car, unfortunately. The Tennessee and Florida goons can vouch that I'm no muzzle sweeper.

I usually go the the Marksman indoor range in Puyallup, because I only own handguns. I wish there was a closer option (it's 35 minutes away from Olympia, where I am).

If anyone was wondering, the shop itself is way too expensive but the range is decent, though I wish they would improve the lighting in there. I really need to get out to an outdoor range and shoot my rifles, haven't done that in ages and probably won't before I deploy again.

Because of a comic misunderstanding involving "money" and a "lack of fiscal sense", I currently belong to two private, outdoor ranges. One about 35 minutes north of Oly (Tacoma Rifle and Revolver) one about 45 minutes south of Oly (Capitol City Rifle and Pistol). TRRC is better in just about every way, but CCRP is less crowded. Also, CCRP usually have steel gongs set up at 100 and 200 yards there, and all over the rimfire/BP range. Tacoma Rifle has a far superior pistol range, though. It's completely covered, bright, and clean. I would be willing to have either/both of you as my guest. Send PMs or email me at notnipsyrussell at the gee mails dot com

I'm in Seattle and would certainly meet up with some goons to shoot. I've been shooting for 8 years and am ex-military (Air Force, but at least I've had professional training) so no worries about muzzle sweeping here. I've been thinking about getting a membership at the Seattle Police Athletic Association firing range, has anyone else been there? Edit: as an aside, is there anywhere within an hour of Seattle that one could set up beer bottles, old TV's, and other junk to shoot at? Something like a gravel pit or old quarry like I used to have back in North Dakota. Anony Mouse fucked around with this message at Jan 8, 2013 around 19:00 |

I might just keep on driving up to Poulsbo Sportsman's Club where almost anything flies, but the rules are a little bit better than "don't show up (too) drunk" Kitsap Rifle & Revolver Club. I know nothing about any Tacoma-area ranges.
