![]() Biran is the quintessential long-time Guard. He epitomizes the traits that have kept so many alive and watched countless hundreds die in his stead. Stubborn, clever and most of all bitter, he takes his job deadly serious. There's just no winning when you're within eyesight of this veteran. If you manage to shoot the enemy, it should have been done sooner. If it was done immediately, it should have been a better shot. Always quick with a critique or an insult, Biran never tries to make friends. Anyone he meets is just fodder for the war machine anyway, so why bother? Still, whenever Biran is called on to do his duty, he does. I mean, he knows what happens to those who don't, but he also realizes the necessity of following orders. When orders aren't followed, chaos reigns. And where chaos reigns, Chaos rains, if you catch my meaning. Biran is a hell of a tanker. ![]() Elgan Rotherham Buntyhood III does not understand where it all went wrong. Born to a wealthy family, in line to inherit the familial estate, star athlete at school and a (badly faked) interest in local politics, it all seemed to be set-up for him to slip into the world of the minor gentry. Unfortunately, while all that was true, Elgan was mostly known to those around him as an ignorant buffoon and a self-obsessed bore. When time came for the planetary tithe to be organised, his athletic talents, noted talent as part of the local hunt and several letters from assorted nobility who desired to see him as far away as possible conspired to result in Elgan being volunteered to the Jannisaries. Though shocking, Elgan took this rather well. Service in the name of the Emperor would be an honour! A career as an officer would undoubtedly bring the young ladies flocking when he returned, and his heritage, schooling and inherent superiority over the peasantry would surely result in a desk job far behind the front lines. The Imperium in their infinite wisdom wouldn't risk sending such a distinguished figure to die on the front lines, would they? Quickly and correctly assessed as a worthless leader who can barely remember which end of the gun is the dangerous one, Elgan was nonetheless a crack shot and a fine physical specimen. His manner with other soldiers and tendency to spin tales of his own superiority has been noted in his record as a possible cause of friendly fire, but his faith in the Emperor, combat skills and expendability in the eyes of near everyone he meets has seen him judged perfect for service on the front lines. pre:Name: Elgan Rotherham Buntyhood III Specialization: Weapon Specialist Demeanour: Braggart Comrade: Carno "Caddy" Nihim Comrade Demeanour: Numb Characteristics: WS: 30 (20+10) BS: 53 (20+20+3+5+5) S: 30 (20+13-3) T: 40 (20+20) Ag: 40 (20+15+5) Int: 20 (20) Per: 30 (20+10) WP: 35 (20+12+3) Fel: 20 (20) Wounds: 11 Fate: 2 IP: 0 CP: 0 Logistics: Aptitudes: Agility, Ballistic Skill, Fellowship, Fieldcraft, Finesse, Toughness, Weapon Skill Awards: Comrade Abilities: ARMSMAN (Golf caddy) Skills: Acrobatics Athletics Common Lore (IG, War, Imperial Creed, Imperium) Linguistics (Low Gothic) Navigate (Surface) Operate (Surface) Talents: Lasgun Barrage Weapon Training (Las, Melta, Solid Projectile) Deadeye, Sharpshooter (+0 for called shots) Hatred (Mutant) Resistance (Fear) Traits: Blessed Ignorance (-5 on Forbidden Lore tests) Gear: [1] Uniform (clean) [1] Poor Weather Gear Kit [1] Lascarbine [2] Las Packs [1] Cossar Pattern Revolver [A long barreled, wood grip handgun given to all Janissary upon grad] [1] Set Demolition Charges [3 uses] [1] Frag Grenade [1] Knife (Standard Field Use) [1] Ceremonial Knife (Long curved blade, ornate handle, given to Janissary upon grad) [1] Cossar Pattern Bayonet (Blade has protrusion near base so weapon may be used as improvised axe) [1] Flak Vest [1] Pinched Top Flak Helmet [1] Sling Bag [1] Set Basic Tools [1] Mess Kit + Canteen [1] Blanket + Sleep Bag [1] Lamp Pack (Rechargeable) [1] Grooming Kit [1] ID Gorget [1] Imperial Guard Uplifting Primer (Cossarian Edition) [1] Set combat rations (2 wks) [1] Munitorum Manual (Cossarian Edition) [4] Krak Grenades [1] Common Craftsmanship Meltagun Advances: 1050/1100 Simple BS +100 Simple Ag +100 Acrobatics +100 Deadeye +200 Sharpshooter +300 Armsman +250 goatface fucked around with this message at Jan 7, 2013 around 19:07 |

goatface posted:Quick questions: Revolver is just a revolver, its just baller looking. The ceremonial knife is just a knife, just baller looking. The bayonet DOES have a different benefit, as when attached your weapon can be used as either a spear or an axe/pick. The pinched helmet is just how it looks. The gorget provides 1 DR against throat damage in addition to whatever the flak vest provides.

Shrouded in concealing robes, hiding much if not all of the machine that he has become beneath. In his search for perfection he has become rather inhuman. In time Aloysius was sent out to join a regiment, to work in the name of the Emperor and to bring Omnissiah's blessing upon the unenlightened. One thing has kept him connected with the lesser mortals of the Guard. At some point in his past Aloysius picked up an interest in cooking, and has taken to cooking for his squad. ![]() Dak, Ogryn Sharpshooter Like most of his kind Dak is brutally strong, remarkable resilient, and depressingly stupid. For as long as he can remember he has been in the Imperial Guard. His only recollection of his homeworld is that it was cold and dark, and that sharp things poked his head whenever he had to walk around. Sadly the only lasting effect of his upbringing is that he hates entering cramped spaces; when ordered to do so he instinctively grabs the top of his head and whimpers like a struck dog. Intelligent commanders typically bring along a packet of hard candy as a means of encouragement; Dak loves sweets. Relative to other ogryns Dak is abnormally quick and tough, and possesses an almost idiot savant quality when it comes to ranged weaponry. If it makes a loud noise and produces a lot of smoke and flash then Dak is happy to hold down the trigger. He's also become particularly proficient at reloading, a skill a former commander drilled in him to prevent the poor oaf from crying when the firing stopped. When Dak first encountered Orks it took a veritable pile of candy to convince him not to paint his skin green and join the other side. Eventually the commander was forced to commission a tech priest to modify an assault cannon so that Dak could "out-Dakka" the greenskins. "Dakka" is Dak's favorite word. Protests by the Commissariat and Adeptus Mechanicus contingent were quickly silenced when a novice Commissar attempted to take Dak's new gun and failed to summarily execute him. Reports indicate the bolter shell detonated against Dak's skull to no effect. The novitiate was converted into a fine red mist when the angry ogryn threw the Commissar into the air and used him as target practice. During the ensuing investigation Dak spoke in his own defense; "da little man didn't have da right hat ta be a commee-sar." Eyewitness accounts confirmed that the novitiate had forgotten his hat when he had stormed out to rebuke Dak, and the senior Commissar verified that his order to Dak was to "do whatever someone in a hat like this says." The incident is listed as a training accident. Even for an ogryn Dak is fairly stupid. In essence he is a large overgrown child that is proficient in heavy caliber automatic weapons. Commanders are cautioned about permitting other troopers to take advantage of his low intelligence; should he discover he is the subject of a ruse or abuse he tends to react violently. It helps to remind Dak that should he be "bad" he will no longer be allowed to shoot things. As mentioned previously sweets also help. Do not let him befriend any kind of native fauna as he will inevitably grow attached and want to keep it as a pet, and the ensuing separation will typically require tranquilizers. Soldiers still talk about the time Dak found a snotling (a tiny repulsive orkoid subspecies) and hid it for three weeks. Discovery only occurred when mushrooms started to sprout out of Dak's ears. The unit was fortunate enough to be attached to a squadron of Salamander Astartes who were able to restrain Dak while the creature was disposed of. It took the entire squad to hold him down, and to this day he wears the engraved bolter shell one of the Space Marines gave him as a token of their respect. pre:Name: Dak Specialization: Ogryn Demeanour: Loyal Comrade: "Grot" (Actual Name: Roderick) Comrade Demeanour: Shell-Shocked Characteristics: WS: 40 20 +15 +5 BS: 46 20 +18 +3 +5 S: 40 30 +13 -3 T: 50 30 +20 Ag: 30 10 +20 Int: 10 5 +2 +3 Per: 20 20 WP: 35 20 +12 +3 Fel: 20 20 Wounds: 30/30 Fate: 3/3 IP: 0 CP: 0 Logistics: Aptitudes: Agility Ballistic Skill Defence General Offence Strength Toughness Weapon Skill Skills: Athletics Common Lore (Imperial Creed, Imperium) Dodge +10 Intimidate Linguistics (High Gothic) Operate (Surface) Talents: Hatred (Mutant) +10 WS vs Mutants, WP to retreat/surrender Iron Jaw Toughness Test to ignore Stunned Marksman No penalties for long or extreme range Rapid Reload Halve all reload times, rounding down Resistance (Fear) +10 bonus to Fear Tests True Grit Subtract TB from Critical Hits Weapon Training (Heavy, Solid Projectile) Traits: Auto-Stabilised Always count as braced Blessed Ignorance -5 on Forbidden Lore Skill Tests But It Dark in Dere! Recruitment open. Need players who can post and fight in an only war game. I have ~8 players but only a few regularly posting. Willing to trade out stragglers for new blood. The squad is a command section to the Major of their regiment, and the regiment (and its sisters) have been devastated in the wake of a dark eldar surprise attack. The psyker, wibblewobble, periled the poo poo out of them in their last engagement leading to a successful mission but a lot of KIA (reason: Insanity) in the remaining soldiery. They are being shipped back to HQ to be refit, and an opposing commander wants to send up your major to military tribunal and have the psyker executed. You may either be a soldier from the current regiment who will get promoted to command squad or new blood when/if the survivors are folded together. We have posting: -specialist -psyker -confessor with maybe a -ratling The rest is fair game. 2200 XP for normals, 1900 XP for supports. Macharius, aka Mac![]() For an Ogryn, Mac has a lot of ideas. Which might not be saying much, but Mac's ideas are always a little odd. Mac sees himself as a military genius, much like his namesake. Unfortunately, he doesn't quite grasp the more intricate concepts of combat, like "formation" or "cover". Mac's best friend, Emil, is always happy to go along with the Ogryn. They've been through a lot together, and Mac now sees the little 'un as his personal aid, much to the amusement of Emil. pre:Name: Mac

Joining up, but I just got ahold of the rules so my character sheet isn't complete yet. Still, I was wondering if some more experienced guys could help me pick out some 'good' Skills / Traits, unless picking sub-par stuff for fluff reasons isn't too likely to get us all killed. Anything I haven't picked out yet will just have a dash for now, and I'll update it once it's done. Kirik Strauss ![]() Kirik would rather be reading a book or doing lab research than anything else, but if he is to be called to the front, he's glad to make himself useful in some way. Edit 2: Decided to drop an AG advance to get hip shooting. Edit 1: I made some changes as suggested by Ranbar in irc ![]() Private Briggs is an exemplary guardsman. Obedient to superiors, diligent in duty, oblivious to his ultimate fate. Whatever planet he is stationed on, whatever enemy he's facing, he always soldiers on looking forward to getting back to the mess so he can enjoy his rations. Perhaps it's his obliviousness that has helped him to keep a steady aim when others would fear for their lives, or allowed him to sneak close enough to use his melta on terrors who most would prefer to keep at maximum range of a lascannon. Pvt. Briggs assumes that everything he is fighting for is good and that his superiors ultimately have his best interests at heart; even though sometimes they put him in some tough scrapes. He enjoys being with Ibram who tells fascinating tales of overcoming unbelievable xenos, and he doesn't mind when Ibram takes credit for enemies who were technically shot by Private Briggs. pre:Name: Pvt. Almost done with my character, but I had a quick rules question. The Combat Formation Trait says that "Any member of the Squad may also choose to use the Intelligence Bonus of this character for their Initiative roll rather than their own Agility Bonus." Do I count as "any member" of the squad, or do I still have to roll Initiative as normal?
