So I've been getting back in to golf over the last week or so. I golfed a ton as a kid, and then went I went to college my parents moved and my clubs disappeared and I never had the money to replace them through college and grad school.

BUT now I'm back in the real world. So last week I picked up a used set of Burner Plus irons, and I grabbed my dad's old putter that he hasn't touched in ten years, and I hit the local par 3 course today.

Shot a 36 on a par 27, but it felt really good to go out and play again, especially since I haven't swung a club in probably eleven or twelve years. Only gonna go uphill from here :)

I think I finally worked out how to hit a hybrid at the range tonight. I have to fight so many instincts looking down at it and trying to swing it like a fairway wood. What worked for me was really getting over it, and swinging down on to it aggressively like I would my low irons. Honest to god I kinda wanna chop the shaft down so I have to get closer to the ball. Any hints?

It just looks like the epoxy failed. You could reshaft it yourself for the cost of epoxy or pay a shop $20 to do it.

But there's nothing like a new golf club. :getin: What club is that? Looks like a Mizuno.

I'll probably just go in to my local shop. I like supporting him.

It's a Tour Edge Exotics 3W. I really like it, so I hope to have it back in my bag soon :)

I don't mean to imply that you shouldn't be as quiet and courteous as you would when playing, but I've had marshals shout at me to stop walking because someone is lining up to shoot 200 meters up and on the other side of the fairway. I get that a lot of the players are prima-donnas, but I think the constant shushing and berating of the gallery turns a lot of people (especially people new to golf) off the sport and reinforces the perception that golfing is for fuddy-duddys.

Haha no I know. That example is definitely bullshit and makes golf seem like it's church or something.

Also maybe hit a first putt cause god drat.

Anyone have a recommendation for a stable, flat footed, over-pronation golf shoe?

I googled it but the articles seem to be dated and I always prefer personal experience.

I live in Los Angeles and lately I've been going out with a 1.5L water bottle, finishing it and refilling it every nine holes of golf, and still come home loving parched and pissing apple juice.

Also, don't forget your sunscreen!

How much are driving range fees in LA?

Standard I've encountered is 100/$10, but as I understand it there's a few places that offer cheaper balls earlier in the day, then get expensive at night when people are actually there.

Speaking of LA, I'm now officially gainfully unemployed for at least a little while so I can finally play a bunch of golf during the week where it doesn't take 6 hours to finish.

Last Thursday I played Encino at 2pm and was done before 6, and I got to play in a group right behind Brekin Meyer. Always seems strange to see celebrities playing cheap city courses when there are so many nicer public and private courses around here, but Encino seems to attract them. Last month I almost killed Donald Faison there while he was waiting on the 15th tee box and I tried to drive the 14th green, but cut it a bit too much. He said the ball flew about 3 feet over his head and landed right in front of him. Then he got to watch me hit my pitch from there to 3', so that was cool.

Now that I'm free, if any of you other LA golfers want to get out and play somewhere during the week, just let me know.

How's Encino looking? I've been meaning to get out there.

If I'm not booked on a job during the week, I'm game. Freelance life giveth and taketh away :)

That sounds awesome, I've never played over there but I wanna check it out!

They punched the greens at the two courses I play the most frequently, Almansor and Los Feliz Par 3 (see previous post about my retarded friends that love to hack). They did it about a month ago. Almansor looks great, but Los Feliz is still a mess. I don't understand how a golf course can be underwater constantly in a drought.
