If you guys had any idea how loving awesome Vanquish was before it had all the melee features stripped... It would have BLOWN MINDS. Platinum Games just make loving awesome games full stop.

Looking at the concept art I just catched that the new Rebellion looks more like Nero's Red Queen than the Old Rebellion. In fact, there's a lot going on with Donte that made him Nero 2.0 (attitude, wardrobe, weapons, techniques)

Sex_Ferguson posted:There's a lot of factors as to why exactly this game is so hated, the biggest of which is that Ninja Theory is the worst company at doing damage control. Literally after the first trailer was released, the lead art director, Tameem Antoniades acted like a complete stinkyhole to anyone who disliked the trailer. He got better throughout the build up, but only slightly and still comes off as very pompous. This is not helped with several interviews where NT harps on about how the story of the game will treat us as mature adults, they couldn't include certain features because they felt it wouldn't work within the narrative of the game and they didn't want to make any realy changes because they were set on certain things. https://twitter.com/NinjaTheory/sta...521624884920321 Didn't it get a 7.5 from some site? The design also went through tonnes of changes, some apparently resembling Classic Dante, which Capcom told them to redesign ("if they wanted to make Classic Dante they would have done it themselves" I believe was the quote). I did save the conclusion however: quote:Ultimately, though imperfect in several respects and a little 'more accessible than its predecessors, DmC Devil May Cry is, therefore, show a valid reboot . The review fiction and art will probably turn up their noses at several stalwarts of the brand, it is useless to deny it, but the fact remains that the title is still far from being a total failure. Of course you can not help but notice a slight loss of depth and a more moderate difficulty than the previous chapters of the brand, but the fact remains that the overall experience is in any case altogether pleasant and fun. Just a shame for a plot far from exciting and a technical sector not really rise to the occasion ... in that case, perhaps, the vote would have been higher by at least a point. The rest of the article was basically "The story and characters are cliche, and the plot is dull. It's better than 2 and looks pretty." Are there even any extra costumes in the finished game or do you have to pay for that costume pack to have anything other than ~~white hair~~? I just watched that awful intro posted in the last thread and I'm amused at how Dante drinks alcohol yet complains about the evil corporations which produce energy drinks that kill people. The big difference is that I doubt the makers of the other DMCs were aiming to create a social commentary/satire, or something that they delude themselves could rival movies or literature. They're making action games, and making it entertaining. The setting is to provide context for the gameplay and motivations for the characters, not "DEMONS ARE GOVERNMENT! WE ARE LEGION! FOX NEWS SUX!" and then expecting you to take it 100% seriously when it's so mindbendingly dumb and childish.

I can't help but wonder what the point of this game is. I don't mean that in terms of quality or its status as a sequel. I mean what's its message? Okay yes, breaking news: the government kind of sucks and Fox news is run by morons. But so what? What change do you wish to instigate? They criticize American Idol without mentioning why it's evil. They mock soft drinks for no other reason than gently caress CONSUMERISM (which is so ironic I think I'm going to get hemochromatosis). And they support Anonymous because they are a protest group? It's just, for all their posturing about their deep and meaningful storyline, their message and plot is amazingly shallow when you think about it. I mean maybe that will change when we see the game proper, but I doubt it. The whole 99 percent movement has had a confused stance on what exactly its message is beyond "gently caress banks" For gently caress's sake, Ar Tonelico had a deeper message and a more engaging storyline than this! And that game has a DLC where you can alter the antagonist's personality just to make the game more

Will Ninja Theory freaking stop trying to annoy people with this "Oh this isn't a review, THIS is a review!" I get that they put a lot of years and effort into this game and while it isn't the one I want to play (Or indeed, many fans of the original series), and to get a bad review must be disheartening beyond belief they aren't doing themselves any favours here. I gave the demo another shot and whilst I understood the controls a bit more (And didn't get tripped up by the different pull buttons - Still don't get it, its less streamlined than DMC4 with Nero when appreantly streamlining is what this is all about), Poison is still an incredibly boring boss. I see some similarities with Cerberus (In the style of a large boss facing in front of you, destroy it to move on), its just not fun to fight. Anytime I fight Cerberus I am enjoying the experience and hanging onto the edge of my seat, it was flawed in terms of difficulty jump but even on Easy Automatic its still a fun boss. Poison's whining is grating on the ears too, if you want a boss to shut up it should be because of the things its saying to you, not because its annoying as heck. Its not satisfying, its just dull.

To the extent that they would only allow the new look Dante to appear in Playstation All-Stars, and apparently some of the new look Dante's concept art does resemble his original look. Since I've owned PSASBR I've had five separate people over to play. All of them were familiar with DMC as a series, but did not know what the new Dante was from until I explained. I think having the Classic costume as an alternate would've alleviated the confusion, but who's to say? All I know is people who aren't already following this don't know who he is at all, which I find hilarious. OXM posted:"When I looked at videos of pro-players playing the old DMCs, they're always in the air, they're always juggling enemies around, and doing stuff that most of us look at and think 'I have no idea how that works'," combat designer Rahni Tucker told Dan Griliopoulos during a studio chat. This is extremely telling of why the combat feels dumbed down. It could be nitpicky to point out he says "most of us" instead of "most people", but it tells me he considers himself among the "us" that don't have any idea how it works. Shouldn't you have someone onboard who understands the older games' intricacies even if your project goal is to give new players a more friendly entry point?

No matter how many times I try, having no lock-on button just makes the combat feel like I'm only hitting enemies by accident. You also lose the health indicator above the enemy you're fighting, and targeting a specific enemy that's far away from you is just completely random. Even DMC2 felt better to play, since that was a bad Devil May Cry, not an alright Heavenly Sword.
