If the combat was unchanged or improved upon I would be taking good-natured jabs at the lovely storytelling and dialogue and probably buy the game on day one. But it isn't and I'm not. The objectively bad story/cutscenes (and all of the gratuitous self fellating from the devs about how loving great they are) is the poo poo cherry on top of the greater poo poo sundae.

It's a good comparison, but a major thing that gets me is that I absolutely do not want to play a game as Ninja Theory's Dante. At least Warrior Within tried to maintain the Prince being the same character, just hardened as gently caress due to the Dahaka chasing him. In hindsight yeah it wasn't executed well, but they were able to do some damage control afterwards with Two Thrones, and in spite of hard swings I think an argument could be made that he was the same character throughout. The fact that Ninja Theory hasn't just taken Dante in a new direction, but rather made an entirely new character from the ground up who is a total loving piece of poo poo and unappealing in every aspect makes it different. This is Ninja Theory's lovely character and "Dante" in name only. Obviously this applies to the whole cast as well. This just isn't a Devil May Cry game, it's "DmC." I don't think that better gameplay would deflect that much heat honestly because the grimy, soulless, dickish and unappealing style of it is just so pervasive that I feel like I could never overlook it. I can't enjoy the game if I'm constantly in control of a character I utterly loathe.

In due fairness, DmC has a pretty big focus on the story. It's being marketed as delivering a sophisticated and mature story, and that's also the focus in the majority of its trailers. It's only natural that we then judge it based on the quality of its story too. After all, if their [seemingly] biggest focus is on the story, and it's poo poo, what does that say for the rest of the game too if they can't get their main thing right? It's like this too. You don't judge an 80's action movie with Schwarzenegger, or whoever, based upon its story. You judge it on its action. Meanwhile, The Dark Knight Rises is an action film with particular focus on the story. Suddenly it's poo poo if the story is garbage, even if they action was pretty good. That's DMC vs. DmC in a nutshell.

Their story has the "I'm your bitch line" and has a character deal with Wiccan magic that involves squirrel semen (gently caress now there's a sentence I'd never thought I'd write). I'm pretty sure that immediately invalidates their "mature and serious" story.quote:Neo-Dante? Do they mean the ripped shirt Neo wore in the Real World? If so, way to miss the loving point NT: Because the directors specifically had him wear that crappy shirt to show off the differences between his Real World body and his body within The Matrix. It was to show how you can either accept The Matrix and enjoy a comfortable life (complete with trendy clothes and hair) or fight back and suffer poverty in exchange for the truth. It was also a subtle reference to the poverty Jesus had to endure during his trials. I watched The Matrix way more times than is healthy for an individual. What is up with those gloves. Is there any reason to expose your thumb and pointer finger? Or is it just a "hey this looks cool", like putting three loving belts across his chest.

The thumb and index finger need to be free so Dante can easily grab slices of pizza in the event of a Crazy Party.

Contrary to videogame graphics, those things aren't meant to actually be floating.
