I don't understand how that works. Does this person enjoy the idea of the character wearing the other character's clothing and the mask? But then why not just draw the character wearing the mask? Or, does he like to observe the mask being held as a separate object?

Each of those characters has a WikiFur entry, because not even relatively obscure 90s platformers are safe. It's on one of those that I discovered this horrible thing. Apparently someone took the games a little too seriously and made that middle one his girlfriend, with a whole load of rather distressing material on that site.

One of the Nexuiz/Xonotic developers hangs out on my game's IRC channel, and he was telling me the other day about being approached by that guy and repeatedly asked if Vore Tournament could be made into something official.
