Yeah, I agree. It feels hypocritical for Seattle fans to be excited about this when we're doing the exact same thing that happened to us in 2008 to Sacramento fans. It's tough to support this.

Hansen isn't pretending he will keep the team in Sacramento while emailing Ballmer telling him the move to OKC is a go.

But let's be honest here - it was pretty clear from the beginning that the team was being moved when Bennett bought them out.

With Ballmer being owner, you sure as hell are gonna see a lot of Bing advertisements around. They'll probably call it the new arena the Bing Arena.

This is a happy...and sad day. Seattle absolutely should have a NBA team, but I feel bad for a small market like Sacramento losing the one pro team they have. It makes all the sense in the world for the NBA, which town would you rather have a team in? Its sad that my childhood idol, KJ, couldn't keep the NBA in his City, you'd think if any Mayor could it would be him.

RE: Divisions, its a damned mess now. You want all 3 Texas teams in the same division. It would be best to have the Blazers and new Sonics in the same division, there's a natural rivalry there. I wouldn't want Utah and Denver in different divisions than one another either.

Seriously this isn't the exact same thing at all. Even aside from the ridiculous Bennett emails that make it clear he never intended to keep the team in Seattle all while lying about to everyone, the behavior of the league office was completely different with Sacramento compared to Seattle. This is from February last year:

quote:

If you want to see Stern favors, look at the Sacramento Kings’ situation, there are plenty of them with the opportunity for many more — something Seattle never got.

The city of Sacramento was given nearly a year to come up with a plan to fund a new arena — Seattle was told to fund a new half-billion dollar arena in Renton.

March 1st is the deadline the NBA gave the city of Sacramento to submit an arena funding plan, however the Kings ownership believe that the NBA may extend the deadline, and by the time the NBA actually looks at the plan, it’s likely Sacramento would get another NBA season in Sacramento — we were stuck with Clay Bennett who wanted the team out of Seattle as soon as possible with no deadline or extension, and Stern supported him.

If the NBA approves Sacramento’s arena plan, the approval would come with roughly $80 million from the NBA in the form of 30 years of pre-paid rent — Clay Bennett never committed to paying any money toward the half-billion dollar arena in Renton, and David Stern was fine with that.

The deadline mentioned in this article was extended to at least May 2nd.

Seems obvious to me that the new Sonics should trade the Kings' franchise history to OKC for exclusive rights to the Sonics' history.

After letting this digest, Seattle should get it's Sonics back, Kemp and Payton can be there for the unveiling of the logo and jersey, champagnes popped, little kids popping the jersey like they are gangsters.

And then Isiah Thomas can then be introduced as the general manager of basketball operations.

Tyreke Evans doesn't really have a position. Demarcus Cousins is talented but a lunatic. Jimmer Fredette isn't very good. The roster needs to be blown up and a new coach brought in.

Hello? Can you hear me? ...Perhaps if I shout? AAAAAAAAAH!

Kings roster Breakdown:

PG: Isaiah Thomas is by far the best overall player here but don't tell Keith Smart because he will loving start Aaron Brooks until the day he dies

SG: Uh, I guess Marcus Thornton is a good chucker but not really that great overall. Tyreke is decent at SG but he needs to be on a line-up with shooters.

SF: Tyreke is actually decent here but he doesn't like playing as one. Then you have...John Salmons? James Johnson? Woof

PF/C: Cousins is the best player, but very inconsistent (NOT BETTER THAN ALDRIDGE holy gently caress) and shoots very poorly for a Big man. Jason Thompson is solid. Thomas Robinson doesn't know how to play yet.

This is a pretty lovely move. Sacramento has been hugely supportive of their team over the years, and Seattle is now stealing a team in a similar manner to what happened to them. If we're going to have a NBA team in Seattle again, why can't it be a new team?

I agree with whoever it was that posted about the team history. Move the Sonics history back to Seattle, let KC start their own new history.

Also, with the Seahawks and Sounders doing pretty well this last year, I don't know how many people are going to be attending Sonics games. The Mariners might even not be terrible again, which makes even more competition for entertainment dollars. Even worse than stealing the Kings from Sacramento would be to steal them and have no one show up to games.

It's a franchise with such a bad history that they already changed their name once to dissociate from their roots as the Royals.

Although some of those teams were about as good as the good Kings teams, though, so I suppose it's fitting.

Last time I tried to get my franchise rating formula to work they were third worst all time.

The Mariners have a peak of being just a good team in an excellent division and since they have no hockey team to compete with yet there's no way in hell the Sonics don't sell out every game their first season.
