Did you come from a SA AD? ![]() New thread is here http://forums.somethingawful.com/sh...hreadid=3532507 For VOIP we are using Troll's mumble server We now have a private wiki ![]() http://ghoulk.in/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page ![]() Age of Wushu is a Martial Arts MMO that is really simple yet complex so it is hard to explain simply. It is an open PvP game like UO with rules that make it so towns are mostly safe. There is great opportunity to look fabulous, create drama, grief, and play the market. All of these things are part of the game. This game has arenas, guild wars, school wars, open pvp, bounty hunting, caravan robbing/escorting, script stealing events, kidnapping, and dungeon pvp. Combat is based around attacks, blocking, interrupts, and flying. Each style focuses strongly in certain areas or is evenly spread out. This boils down to a rock paper scissor system which means good players will guess the moves you can make. There is an alignment system with classes that mirror this but are not stuck to the alignment system. There are 4 good classes, 2 neutral classes, and 2 evil classes. These are called schools in the game. Each school has 3 fighting styles as well as several neutral styles being in this game. Styles can also be stolen by another school. FEATURES
How to Join the Goon Guild Goon guild is full. We have a second goon guild until we upgrade. SanguineGoon not SanguineMoon ![]() You will need to complete your story until you get the option to join a school, then train your school inner skill to rank two, then learn a life skill. We are not taking members who register for SA just for the guild. Friends and family are fine. Due to an influx of J4G's, post in this thread for an invite or application approval please. To apply find the guild npc by opening your map and selecting the missions tab, then selecting guild administrator. Not all towns will hav this npc. He will let you apply but we can not accept it unless you are online. Please post in the thread since we have a lot of J4G's and non goons applying. If you don't want to apply that way, send a message to Grithok, Baibao, Laziness, Jerkjerk, Delamore, NiH, Orvi, Orv, or MrCrowley. If this fails, join trolls mumble, which is posted above. The goon guild is full. It is 300/300. If you got alts get them out. We now have an alt guild / over flow called SanguineGoon. Find them and join them. Xodi is leading that. New Player Guide This is written with the aim to get you into the guild as soon as possible. There are requirements for this. The first thing you need to do is work on your tutorial quests until you reach the point where it asks you to join a school. Character creation is limited to Asian A or Asian B since this is ancient China. You don’t have much in the way for options but you will have several clothing options later to include alterations. There is only one server at the moment. This may be updated later on. Your first story will change where you spawn at and your first teleport point. We are going to recommend The Nameless Sword so you will spawn in Jimming/Crow Posthouse in north China. If we can get goons to start there you guys will have an easier time grouping together. Once you get to the choice for a school, the coach driver will show you all the styles you will gain. You will be given a certain style when you reach your school and have to earn the others later on. The requirements for this will be explained later. Now you belong to that school. You now have access to school events and chats although some events you can not do until you get your new player protection away. You will now need to get a life skill. If you hit the i button, you can see the life skill menu. You can have all of the top row, and one second row, one of the third row, and both of the fourth row. You will need one from the second row. If you select it you can find a button on the bottom right to auto travel back to the guy who can train you on this. Most likely you are in the school zone right now and will need to travel back to your story zone. Hit T and select the first location under Jianghu Teleport Points to teleport back there. You can do this every few minutes. As soon as you have this life skill trained send a message to someone in the guild for an invite or you will need to find a Guild Administrator to apply. If you open your map and select the missions tab on the bottom a nice large list will pop up. Look at the bottom of the list for guild administrator, select it, and find the icon on the map. Remove other icons to make this faster. These are located at your school and in cities, but generally not starter towns. If you apply to the guild we will have to take a look at the list and accept you, which we can only do when you are online. Otherwise to send us a tell, hit the speech bubble on the bottom right of your screen and hit search on the bottom of this new window. Here you can search for players by name and capitalization matters. You will be able to see if we are offline or online this way. Go ahead and use this new window or the last window to send a private message to one of us. Leveling up This game doesn’t have levels but sorta does. You have weapon skills that can generally go from rank 1 to 5 and several internal skills which can go much farther beyond that. Internal skills could be considered the class you are playing at that time. Only one can be active at a time and you should have three right now. One from your school and two from before that. Only level up your school internal skill until it gets to 21 as it provides your base stats. They also provide buffs to you depending on which internal skill active. You can even gain the skills from other schools through school script stealing events. Your own school inner skill can reach rank 36 while an inner skill stolen from another school can reach rank 30, which is about a 10% difference. This doesn’t mean it is worthless to steal those. Everything you do can earn you experience in this game but there are 5 difficulty levels of content. Each level of content has its own experience pool that drains into your main exp pool at different rates. You can find this by pressing K and hitting cultivation points on the top red book mark. The experience in the center large pool will drain into the cultivation pool depending on how you are cultivating your skills. If you do not pay for this game you will lose 30% of your cultivation as potential, which can be gained back later on. Cultivation has 3 methods. You can see these by selecting the buddha above your health bar. There is internal, martial, and TP or team practice. Team practice is by far the best but limited per day. Team practice is best done when in a sacred area and your schools have one area they use quite often. It is a DDR-like minigame where you have to press buttons in a specific order. Until we get the guild up this is where you will do it at. The more people you have the better, and combos gain extra cultivation but missing a combo doesn’t hurt you in anyway but time. Often times you can see people in your school chat arranging team practice. Each turn you get fatigue which is directly related to cultivation done. You have a limit of 100% and it resets every day. After 100% you can not gain any more cultivation from the team practice, don’t leave your group when this happens. Martial Practice is where you spend money for a chance of gaining cultivation. You may gain extra or none. There is a spending limit per day which is quite low but you still get quite a bit of cultivation done here. If you have the money, do this. There are two different bound limits, one for the silver ingots and silver coins. Internal cultivation is natural passive cultivation, this is what you will do most of the time and VIP members can do this while offline. Team Practice is worth several hundred minutes of internal cultivation. Schools Schools are not only classes - they also function as an alternate sort of guild. They have events, player leadership, a chat box, and rules. Evil guilds tend to have less rules than the others. Breaking rules give you punishment points (pp). If you reach 100 pp you have to repent at your school for a set amount of time ingame. More indepth information can be found here: http://www.ageofwushu.com/forums/vi....php?f=3&t=1779 Emei Considered one of the 'Three Large Doors' of Wushu, the Emei is a sect that only accepts female practicioners. Through the use of Dagger, Palm and Double Dagger style, Emei are masters of retaliation, punishing enemies by draining them, knocking them down and finishing them off with a single lethal blow. Rosy Cloud Stab: This Dagger style is their defensive "turtle" style, punishing opponents by draining away their internal power, leaving them useless in combat. Golden Diamond Soft Palm: Focusing on ranged, this Palm style slows opponents and knocks them down, while giving the Emei crazy amounts of damage reduction. Departing Sting Manual: The most popular style, this Double Dagger "berserker" style builds stacks of buffs to unleash damage that can kill players in a single slash. Wudang Residing in the Wudang Mountain range, members of this sect ascribe to the tenets of internal balance. Using Single Sword and Double Sword styles, Wudang incorporate buddhist and taoist teachings to form a defensively dominating style that can drain opponents and make themselves impossible to kill. Taiji Sword: This Single Sword style is the Wudang's most defensive, focusing on single-target damage and large Rage attacks while being nearly impossible to kill. They are capable of trading out their health and internal force, as well as regenerating internal force at will. Yin Yang Sword: Breeze Sword: Shaolin Shaolin are warrior monks who have given up their life posessions in order to become spiritually at balance with themselves and to learn the arts of shaolin kung fu. They specialize in Palm and Staff style combats, consisting of huge damage output and an impressive toolkit of AoEs, stuns, knockdowns and knockbacks. Long Style Boxing: This is their primary PvP set, a Palm style that consists of AoE stuns, knockdowns and a very powerful charged knockback. It has strong combo capabilities and is easily capable of shutting down small groups for short periods of time. Bhodidharma's Stick: This Staff style specializes in doing AoE damage and being the most annoying Shaolin set, juggling enemies in the air with short-cooldown knockbacks. Weutuo Stick Skill: The most damaging set, this Staff style focuses on a single target with amazing charge capabilities, but gives up a lot of versatility for pure output. Beggar's Sect No matter where you come from, there will always be beggars. The Beggars' Sect is a school devoted to taking in poor people and teaching them the ways of kung fu to defend China from outside invaders. Using Stick and Palm styles, beggars brutalize their opponents with knockbacks and air denial, while turning any battle hilarious by spitting alcohol in their faces and getting them drunk. Crying Stick: The most infamous of the Beggar styles, this Stick style focuses on becoming increasingly more drunk as the Beggar fights. Using this style, a Beggar is capable of spewing wine into the faces of their enemies and rendering them too drunk to fight, as well as snare them and drain their internal force. Lotus Palm: Widely considered to be their most effective style, this Palm style is a Beggar's most direct combat style. Utilizing several knockbacks, this style will keep opponents in the air and primed for a brutalizing aerial groundslam. Spirit Snake Stick: This Stick style utilizes poisons and toxins to give Beggars an upperhand in dungeon combat. Using a combination of knockdowns and poisons, a Beggar is capable of quickly stacking poisons on large groups of enemies to clear a room fast. Scholar's Academy The Scholar's Academy was formed by two refined scholars as a means to meet and practice martial arts with fellow intellectuals. Utilizing Swords and Double Swords, Scholars are a powerful yet fragile class that utilizes large AoE attacks, crowd control and energy removal, with the ability to deal massive single target damage. Falling Flower Sword: This Sword style is the "spin to win" style, utilizing an uninterruptable and highly damaging AoE ability, as well as some crowd control abilities. Boundless Sword: Their ranged damage style, this Double Sword style sucks the internal force out of opponents while blasting them at a range. Leisure Kick: Their most damaging style, this Sword style dishes out heavy direct damage to opponents. Tangmen Tangmen are a mysterious sect run by the Tang Family, a group of assassins who specialize in highly toxic contact poisons. Specializing in Daggers and Hidden Weapons, Tangmen are the most reviled school in the game for their ability to utterly kill at range or demolish opponents with single target damage. Golden Snake Sting:This Dagger style focuses on single target damage, using ranged stuns and speed boosts to keep out of danger, while closing in for the kill with a powerful Rage. Vertigo Dart: This Hidden Weapon style is the Tangman's most infamous style, using entirely ranged attacks to break blocks and kill targets. Tangmen are fully capable of moving while attacking, making them extremely difficult to chase down and kill in this style. Shadow Chasing Sting: This Dagger style is mainly PvE. It uses poison clouds to damage enemies while increasing teammates' dodging and damage, while having decent damage output and an AoE finisher. Royal Guards The Royal Guards are the secret police whom serve the Emporer and follow his instructions to rid the world of all martial artists. They are adept at chasing people down and preventing them from fleeing with the use of Chains or their Eagle Claw style. They are also able to put out reliable DPS using their Sword style. Soul Chasing Claw: A long-range Chain style that relies on stunning their opponents or pulling them towards them. Eagle Claw: A Palm style mainly used for PvE due to their ability to put life steal on an enemy. They also can life steal for themselves, chase others down, and have several knock downs with a powerful followup attack. Soul Losing Blade: This Sword style is mainly melee with a reliable ranged DPS ability. The majority of this style is based around being able to disable their opponent by knocking them down. Wanderer's Valley Lead by a doomed man, a headmaster destined to die of poison at the age of 40, the Wanderer's Valley is a school dedicated to taking from everyone what was denied to them. Utilizing Palm, Twin Blade and Twin Dagger styles, Wanderers mix in lethal poisons and flesh-eating insects they breed in the flesh of their arms. Wind-Catching Blade: This Twin Blade style specializes in keeping enemies locked down with Shock, unable to use abilities or block for 5 seconds. It can also knock enemies back from a large range and has a very strong ranged DPS attack. Bone Corrosion Palm: Dealing a mix of single target and AoE damage, this Palm style disables enemies, throwing down fields of stunning poison and firing off short-range cone attacks and debuffs. This style mainly focuses on being a punishing PvP group style. Perish Blade: Dealing mainly in AoE damage, this Twin Dagger style reduces their health drastically to increase their damage two- or three-fold. They inject themselves with poisons to increase damage by 100%, add lifesteal or increase movement speed. Screenshots More to come... PvP PvP in this game comes in several forms. You can attack people in the open world, attack other schools in daily events, attack guilds in daily events, or attack players in a dungeon. On your character screen near your portrait is a picture of a shield. Click that to open it. Here you can click on peace and go to war (the pvp setting). You can also set if you are allowed to attack other players from your school, guild, group, etc. Other players can and will attack you and the defeated person has a 15 minute buff that lowers their run speed. They have to pay cultivation to remove it or wait the 15 minutes. Kidnapping is the major source of cash for most people. It can be done once an hour but you can also stop it for similar benefits. It gives you silver ingots which is rather important. The longer someone has been off line the more money you will get. To kidnap you will need some knockout powder from a grocer and find an offline player who does not have the kidnapped buff. You have a greater chance of knocking them out if they are a strong opponent. If you fail on your knockout powder you will be stunned for one minute. School events are daily and come in the form attacking other schools for books or defending your own. These books have to be taken out of the zone and returned to your school’s library. If done so you get a random script that contains a skill from the enemy you took it from. This may be rank 1, 2, 3, or 4 and have to be learned in order. Rank 1 lets you learn lets say skill level 1-9 of an internal while rank 2 is 10-5 or so. This means rank 1 lets you learn the skill the other ranks do not. The scripts you get are random. Defenders get rewarded for turning in books, but not killing players. Most of the time goons are killing other players who have already stolen a book, and turning that book in for their selves. Guild events are also daily and let you either invade another guilds land to claim it, burn down their buildings, or escort caravans. You can also ambush caravans being escorted for guild functions, and during certain times of the day those caravans are worth a lot to the guild. You can burn down a guilds building only during two times of the day but you can earn silver ingots during any time of the day by throwing torches on an enemies buildings. For the smaller caravans that can be done anytime of the day, they reward you with some silver coins, a little exp, and a lot of money for the guild. There are also dungeons which are called Forbidden Wulin Instances. The first one is the only one we have info on which is Twilight Village. At the second boss the game will randomly select 3 people who are eligible and warp them in if they agree. They look like npcs but don’t gain any new skills and use the players current skills. I don’t know what they get when they win, but you have to beat the boss they protect to continue the dungeon. PvE For you solo players, you have a few options. There are quests that can be repeated every few hours in the zone. As for gear though, you will have issues. There are Silver Coins and Silver Ingots in this game as currency and they both use Ding, Liang, and Wen for denominations. Silver Coins come from NPC quests and are taken by NPCs and can not be traded. Silver Ingots come from PvP quests and can be taken by NPCs but can be traded. As for group content, you actually need to do this. Gear just doesn’t drop in this game. Crafters rule all. Crafters need other crafters to make items. Crafters also need books for recipes and these only come from the small martial arts challenges or the forbidden wulin instances. These martial arts challenges are you going up to a group of strong people, sending them a picture of dick butt, then fighting them to the death. It is the source of the first flying skills, a source of world faction for various small groups, and can earn you special costumes if you make one like you by beating up their enemies. Guilds Guilds can own territory, go to war, burn or capture enemy guild buildings, or escort caravans. Guild halls have to be maintained via money deposited from players or earned via events. The territory we don’t know much about except for buildings that can be placed. Professions Crafting in this game is either a simple bejeweled game or click button craft. The bejeweled game raises your profession and can be played against players or your trainer and requires no resources. You can have all of the harvesting professions, one manufacturing profession, one social profession, and both market professions. If you forget a profession you can switch to a new profession, but switching back does not regain your lost progress. All items in this game can deteriorate over time and on use so your crafted items have to be replaced often. Not only that but since players starve they need to eat food. Later on crafts require other crafting players to make items so you can finish products. ![]() Professions come in four groups. Gathering, manufacturing, social, and marketplace. You can have all of the gathering professions but only one of each of the others. ![]() The harvesting professions are a good chance for money and somewhat relaxing like playing farming simulator 2012. Mining - The nodes can be hit 3 times and has uncommon drops that are used so far mainly for throwing weapons. The nodes can be put on your map and each map has certain types. Hunting - This is skinning and butchering. You have a full list of what drops what in your profession menu but to find them you can use the search npc function on your map. Farming - This gets a little complex. The basic seeds can be given to you by your trainer, and this is what you will need for your basic nutrition food. I suggest all solo players take this. Later seeds are only from dungeons and can fill your inventory face. You also grow silkworms. Woodcutting - Find tree, hit tree, get wood. Fishing - This is red light green light. The maps can show you what fish are in the area and so can your profession menu. ![]() All of these professions can be raised via a bejeweled game. You can challenge other players to this as well and both raise your profession. There are items and professions based on what manufacturing you took. The objective is to use skulls, fists and then items, or resources and then abilities to lower your enemies health. Each bejeweled map is custom to the manufacturing profession. Tailor - This is armor crafting and making bags for your inventory. Can also enchant armor. Chef - This guy makes foods and sharpens weapons. Poison Maker - Craftsman - Creates jewelry, parts of weapons, and more. Can enchant items. Also makes boxes. Blacksmith - Makes all weapons and only weapons. Herbalist - Makes potions. ![]() The social professions have games you can play to raise the crafts and are rather important. Musician - This guy plays guitar hero and provides group buffs by playing. Some people can hear the music in the game some can’t. Weiqi Player - This is GO. You can challenge players or practice certain moves against npcs. Provides stat buffs to the group when using a 3 form array (chrono trigger). Calligrapher - Has a balancing game and comes in handy later on binding books. You can create books that increase people's experience gains. Painter - Painters can combine pages of books gained through the game into full skill books. They can also annotate books that can be equipped to make an entire weapon set take less cultivation to raise. They have a chance of adding damage to a skill book as well. ![]() Your marketplace professions are only good for annoying players or buffing others but are somewhat neat for their options. These professions can only be raised from other players. Diviner - can divine your fortune giving you buffs like a cultivation buff, find enemies of yours, and tell you about marriage (marrying is not in yet) Beggar - All beggars sect must take this. It can stun lock people for 5 seconds while you offer. If someone kills another play unjustly they will gain infamy. A beggar can lower this by using their professions. Want an item? Want a material? Want to know what it takes to craft something? Grithok (Third World Reggin) has guild called GoonTangClan in game. Apply for GoonTangClan through the guild administrator or send a message to anyone, they can all invite. Diplo Status: Not Going To War With: Versus Killing: Everyone You can fight anyone you want, kill and gank any carts, even Versus. We may arrange fightclubs with Versus, and when we have our own territory we may engage in practice guild wars with them. Kill everything FAQ by Switched.on Age of Wushu F.A.Q. Q: Help! the controls suck, I'm always blocking while I'm turning. A: There's an option under Mouse that will let you change your Left Mouse button to camera turn while using the fancy AoW camera type. This will let you turn without blocking, since rebinding block doesn't always work as well. It's also strongly advise you turn the advanced battle setting on that lets you block while out of combat. Q: Help! I can't get my second skill tree, I just stopped getting quests. A: The game seems to have left out a few key breadcrumb quests for certain stories. You may get to a point in your story where it just appears to stop. You should try the following solution: Click the Jianghu Help button (Brown book with a ? on it near the mini-map). Click the "Wonder Around The World" Section, and select "The Harsh Journey of Finding Yourself". The person listed in green should have a new quest for you, and you should be able to simply click their name to travel to them. If you wanna see what city they are in, just hover over the name. If that doesn't work, make sure you've examined your quest log (L) very closely. It's also advised you go check with the people in your school who gave you quests before (Headmasters etc). Q: How do I get my third skill tree? A: Once you get your schools inner-skill to level 10, you can learn your third tree from your school. Q: The guild is about to go raze the enemy guilds/spy on the other schools/WHATEVER A: For most activities in the game, you can get ALL the information required to get you into them by pushing N. N. PUSH loving N. This brings up the Missions Window. The Missions Window is about 90% of the game, so learn to use it. The tasks are organized by category. The registration site, description, location and times available are all listed here. You can even find out who takes kidnapped victims in each city! Just click around and learn this menu. Q: Where do I take this person I kidnapped? A: Read the question right above this one. Q: What is the difference between the two types of Silver? A: In your bag, you have two types of money. The top one is your PVP Silver, earned by doing pvp related activities, or trading with players. You can also convert gold into PVP Liang. The other currency is your bound Liang. This is only good for crafting and buying the limited items from NPCs like Torches and Sleeping Powders. This currency is much easier to come by, but is less valuable since you can't buy from the player market with it. Q: Help! I'm supposed to do an instance for my school story, but I keep dying! A: An NPC is supposed to spawn and help you through that instance. Make sure you let the NPC go ahead and pull as much as possible. This is especially important once you've reached the boss. If you fail, or log out, the NPC won't spawn when you try again automatically. You'll need to reset the quest with the NPC outside the instance before you start the instance. Q: Where do I get crafting recipes? A: The trainers (Shifus) sell a few starting recipes. Check the different tabs at the bottom. Otherwise, they are drops from instances. Run groups with people for a chance at them, or simply buy them from the market in Chengdu with V. Q: I want to buy stuff from the Market (V key), but this interface is horrible. A: Yep. When searching, make sure you're typing case sensitive. It also helps to use the auto-complete drop-downs. If you don't know what you're looking for, be prepared to change the quality type and hit refresh while you figure out what quality level flying skills are (try gold). Some important account related poo poo people might want to take note of: You can only have one character per account. If you decide to delete your character, it takes 48 hours. Your account isn't usable for this period! If you've bought the Deluxe Edition, those in-game benefits only apply to that particular character. If you delete that character and create a new one, you won't get the benefits again. Any VIP status you have wll remain unchanged.

Archonex posted:You're pretty much describing the goon guild that already exists. Also the other poster is right that most of the guilds are PVP/PK. This game is a lot like UO in that there's no "innocent bystanders". Mine is open to pubbies as well which I added to the OP. Sorry about that, it's just a general guild. I was actually hoping to do an alliance with GoonTang so we could add numbers to the roster. We will see if that pans out I guess. Regardless of the guild stuff though I would like to remark that guilds like Longshot,DemiGodz, I.N.K., etc (basically a lot of huge guilds) have a ban on escorting recently because it has caused a lot of drama. Also, most guilds have rules against random open PK against any of the larger guilds (which makes up a huge player base. The PvP they are participating in is mainly going to be guild wars, scripts and secret attack/guild hall stuff. Eventually wars will break out but right now there is a lot of 'friendliness' among high level guilds. Edit: Also I'm dumb and posted this in the old thread at first.

This thread needs a stories section for all the insane poo poo the Goon Tang Clan gets up too. It'd really illustrate how amazing this game is. If we aren't burning down entire villages for shits and giggles, we're kidnapping (player) prostitutes to sell off to grocers as slaves. Or vice versa. And if we're not doing that, we're spying on other schools by dressing up (and acting, within gameplay mechanics) as professional gamers, pissing off other players by organizing impromptu assassination squads, or just generally screwing them over in amazingly creative ways. And if we're not doing that, we're charging headfirst into the heart of the Royal Guard HQ with a madman acting as our vanguard. All while he randomly deals out whippings to people with a spiked iron chain for being AFK and slacking on the job as a member of the faction. Honestly, that whole saga could probably go in the thread. Everything from the original reasons we were there, to the player reaction (We almost sparked a freaking war between schools, apparently. Which is a bit like if players could force the two major hardcoded PC factions in conventional MMO's to go hostile on sight to each other.) to what we did, to the aftermath, was solid comedy gold. Reggin could probably tell it better than I can, though. Either way though, I haven't laughed that hard at a game in years. The sheer batshit insanity this game has depth-wise allows for some amazing hijinks. It's like the best parts of EVE, UO, and a simulation of China all smashed together, all without the boring kruft of the three and with amazing kung-fu combat tacked on on top of it. Edit: Also, I posted some info on Wandering Valley in the old thread. It's from the wiki, and does a good job at explaining what they're all about. Long story short, it's the school you want to choose if you're really good at comboing and want to play a chaotic evil/neutral bastard that has to abide by no rules other than "Thou shalt not kill other school members.". Given that the ruleset of the faction (Which is pretty much "Thou shalt not kill other purple bros". Purple being their faction uniform color.) is fairly simple, it tends to fit the goon mindset rather well. Though the styles are fairly complex in terms of understanding how to dominate other players. Also, the dual blades skill they get is honestly the most bullshit style in the game. It's their first school style, and it can quite literally completely lock down someone's ability to attack forever if you're a good enough player. And if you pick up a weapon that locks down movement then you're pretty much unstoppable. This is because without the means to move, you're effectively trapped with no means to escape, and no means to fight back. It's just a guess, but a "goddamn bees" style EVE strategy might work with them too. Provided their skill always locks out stronger players from their skills, having three of them constantly spamming lockouts would pretty much let you take down people we normally couldn't take out solo at this point in the guild's development. From the wiki, here's their info for referencing purposes: quote:Many of the key leaders are fallen members of other sects. A Divinator that discovered he would die an early death founded the school. He knew that living a rich and full life would never happen for him. This knowledge turned him bitter, and the Divinator began recruiting the most infamous members of society to ruin the culture and land that he could never have. quote:The skills behind the Wanderer's Valley members are just as fun as the evil they cause. A barehanded skill set called “Bone Corrosion Palm”, uses pressure points and poison energy to cripple others. The “Wind-Catching Blade” uses the strength of the two massive blades to slice through foes with a deadly combination of speed and force. Finally, the “Perish Blade” set is a signature move for the double sting weapon. It uses buffs through points, poisons to weaken an area, and insects to slowly eat away at enemies. Also, I guess you can tank or something. But who the hell needs to tank when you can shut down ninety percent of the bosses with a single blow? I've been doing mostly PvP with Tek and our group of RL friends and the amount of nerdrage people have is impressive. We managed to spark at least 2 different guild wars and a wave of retaliatory PK'ing across the globe in less than hour the other night. We logged on to a new rule set of no PvP and decided to strike out on our own with C.R.E.A.M. and haven't looked back and couldn't be happier. In game right now we've been pretty friendly with a few of the other mainly PK/PvP oriented guilds like Carebears and eXopack and primary kill on sight/general making GBS threads in cherrios guilds include Kojo and DemiGodz. The DemiGodz hold a special place in my heart of griefing hearts because we managed to kill their guild leader a few times the other day while he was trying to harvest his pubbie beets. All the poor bastard could do was cry to our leader and threaten war, I bottled his tears for a later date. Right now almost no one uses the open PvP/PK system and almost no one raids escorts and that's going to be our primary focus, so if you enjoy griefing the poo poo out of people, we have a jail cell ready and waiting to share with ya. In as Sadkitten, lets mix it up. Dollar dollar bills yall.

This is wrong, because on my first day I made a dude, decided to change his appearance and deleted him, then remade a dude again and started playing. Also considering that you can get all the martial arts on your character no matter what school you are (correct me if i'm wrong here) you should all play the wanderer dudes like me, since then the only thing you get penalized for is killing your schoolmates. And since Wandering Valley don't give a gently caress, if you mess up on the group TP you will be kicked off the mountain it's on top of. I just got the third style for the school today and it's pretty great. You basically sacrifice your health to buff your damage, only it's not a small amount. I think you can get up to +160% damage. edit - Also, we need to start a business of breaking people out of jail. Like, insurance. They pay us in advance, then commit a crime. If they get arrested, we go break them out. If they don't, we keep the money anyway. edit 2 - VVVV Royal Guard's chain whip thing is loving stupidly good. There's a vietnamese guild on the server that we went to burn down the stronghold of earlier, and I am pretty certain 90% of their guild are royal guards. They seem to have really far range and can immobolize you which is so frustrating. As a chronic altaholic I have a couple of accounts going at the moment to try out the various schools. I'll eventually settle on one and probably buy the Deluxe Edition on that account. Does anyone know what school has the best aerial combat stuff?

Since I play MV all the skills I have are melee-only really, so anyone with range can decimate me (i'm also way weaker than everyone who i've fought, though) The chain whip loses a lot of its effectiveness once you get goose step. I forget the full name of it, but think of Vanquish's bullet time power slides. It's basically that, only sped up to flash step levels of speed. It also completely fucks over ranged styles like the Tangmen's starter style. Using it properly lets you basically flash step to someone or close massive gaps in distance in combat very quickly. That essentially removes Wandering Valley's one weakness when it comes to their starter style. Which is also, as previously mentioned, the most bullshit style in the game. Also, much like many of the other skills in the game, it's highly dependent on a player's personal skill, not just the stats. I've managed to hone it down to a level now where I can throw something backwards and actually be at the landing point before they are, sending another attack their way to juggle them back in the other direction. It's also very rare at the moment, so not many people have it yet. This means that proper usage of it guarantees you'll never have to worry about losing a fight again. Just spam it to get out of range, get on your horse, and run. Archonex fucked around with this message at Jan 10, 2013 around 15:27 |

One of my favorite things about Royal Guard is that every time you use a whip move your double and triple jump resets. I love basically floating in the air while hitting someone for 15 seconds and then falling down only to finish them off with a AoE while they are stunned.

I love basically floating in the air while hitting someone for 15 seconds and then falling down only to finish them off with a AoE while they are stunned. A lot of the schools have this, actually. It's mostly dependent on whether or not you have a quick executing skill that can be used outside of combat/without a target. Attacking resets your falling status, which means that attacking acts as a sort of animation style legal "cancel" within the confines of the game. Which in turn means means you can use your flying skills as if you haven't jumped yet. Same goes for air dashing too, which means that with a bit (Read: A lot) of skill, you can infinitely air dash by alternating between guarding and hitting W until you run out of flying energy. Wandering Valley for instance, has two charges. One is specifically a charge, and one is unique that if executed while airborne, it dashes to a target. Proper usage of your knockback and the falling reset feature means you can perform absurd aerial juggles if you have good enough reflexes. I know other schools have similar tricks as well. Not that being airborne is always a good thing, though. It's part of why Goose Step is so awesome. It seems at least one of the schools has a move where they can leap into the air, catch you while in flight, bearhug you, and then performing a spinning piledrive, slamming you headfirst into the ground for massive damage. zwdzk posted:All this Wanderer's Valley talk is making me regret picking Royal Guard. I'm really curious to try them out now. Oh well, LOL! I actually regret picking Wanderers Valley at this point for a few reasons. Teknologik and I are always dueling, hes a Royal Guard and I can give you some input as to how I feel about how the two classes match up. As a WV with dual blades you have 3 skills that impair the other player, you have 1 knockup(Lightning Speed Strike), 1 knockback(Fast Blades Shred The Grass) and another that shuts down a player from doing anything silly like blocking or using skills(Dragon Carries The Wind) and you can chain the three if you time it right. The problem lies in the damage because I can land all 3 of those hits and even having them leveled up to lvl 5's I only manage to do 30% of his HP. However he can land a range pull, a paralyze, and a spin and take 3/4ths of my HP. I also get really frustrated because a lot of times my skills will go off and do absolutely no damage, even if hes standing right in front of me and not blocking. When you have one of your crucial skills gently caress up it can be the difference between living and dieing and it happens at least twice per duel :/ All the skills are pretty much point blank attacks whereas a RG can range the poo poo out of me. When it comes to Unavoidable Storm, it sucks donkey balls. The damage is insanely low on a per hit basis, I think at lvl 1 it only does something like 9 or 11 dmg per hit. The main problem is that a lot of those 50 rage moves go off once, you activate it and if the person you're attacking isn't blocking then the whole thing goes through and does its massive damage as is the case for Royal Guards. Unavoidable Storm is actually completely avoidable because it doesn't lock your enemy into the entire combo/animation. All your opponent has to do is simply walk away or in turn trigger his ultimate and surprise sex your face. Even if you knock your opponent down he can stand up and walk away before taking more than a couple of hits(wet noodle flays). The saving grace is the lockdown capability, when you can make it work you can kill someone without them getting so much as a chance to wipe the tears from their eyes. When it comes to open world pvp and more than just a 1v1 its nice also because a Royal Guard can rope them in and you can shut them down easily. I just now realized why Wanderer's Valley is so amazing. They are Saints Row. They only care about killing other Saints and even then you can kill 3 before they actually start to care and ask you go to the "I'm sorry square" for a little while. Plus they have like 3-4 quest chains that involve you killing other Wanderers npcs because they're either in the way or because they are loving around outside. But the best quest is the one where some higher ranking official keeps hitting on some actress so she has you steal some poison from the poison alter guys, make him drink it, then has you kill him in his drunken/poisoned stupor. Afterwards the actress and her lover run off and do a dance for you.

Venerable Monk posted:This game is way deeper than I expected... I got really into the game and am enjoying it, only I hate how much lag i'm getting. I'm pretty much constantly at 500-ms which makes it really difficult to fight since it takes a second to target, a second for your skill to activate, then there's a weird delay between chaining skills and half the time they just go off without doing anything. When I managed to play for 10 minutes with no lag, the combat was way more awesome, though.

Just to add to your New Player Guide some stuff to do after your initial handheld phase (which had me wondering what to do next). This guide is adapted from a Chinese player but it looked correct enough for me to proofread and adapt. He actually recommends just completely doing the story questline immediately which I didn't know was possible. Anyway: Each of the story selections give you a different starting town and main quest line. For example the sword one started me in Jinging. [insert your newbie guide here with just minor clarifications below] The two schools that require more to join: Beggars require Begging, Scholar needs any culture skill (Weiqi/Musician/Calligraphy etc) Your first skillset from a school is locked in, you will receive an internal skill and a series of moves corresponding to that set. [end your guide] After joining the guild return to the school, learn all the skills and do all the quests there before coming back to newbie town. Once you back to your newbie town, finish all the quest there (main quest) and that will get you a horse. The main quest line will take you to your first mini instance, one of the NPC will join you so don't worry if you are weak. You can also join/create a player group for these instances. You get money, rep, skills book and recipe for crafting too. WARNING: Open World Once you have done your first mini instance, it is time to venture into the world. At this point, there is no quest guiding you, you are free to roam around etc. However, a good starting place will be newbie town and suzhou as the option quest give better rep and money till you get 3500 rep for next mini instance. There are lots of event ingame, examples: Scouting and patrol - daily quest. -You can do scouting 5 times a day, each successful attempted reward you 2 badges, 50 bound silver, 160XP and 20 pots (25% xp to skill point conversion pot) -You can do 20 patrol mission a day (in your school) each reward you 1 badges, lesser money and XP (can remember the rest) -The badges you earned is for exchanging version 2 skill books from your school later on. -The maximum XP you can gain per day is 999. -XP is used to convert to skills point that you need to level up your skills. -Inner strength skill has L1-36 and combat skill L1-5. This game can have up to version 3 of inner strength and L7 combat skill later. Daily skill book stealing event: There will be two school a day where you can rob them of their skills book thus learn their skill or sell them to player for unbound money. Player from these two school can join in to protect and reward with skills book too if successful. Guild/Clan battle: This happen when a guild declare war on another, you can have your alliance help to defend your base or attack other base. You gain construction point for your guild. Tips: You can buy a water basket and AFK in the guild base to get 30% XP to skill point conversion rate. It stack with the 25% XP to skill point conversion pot you got from scouting and patrol. School war: Every day, two school will fight against each other, winning side will get 10 badges and loser get 2. Do not forget your Group Training (sort of like SDO) daily (3 times daily) to level up your skills faster.

It matters in the sense that you'll get three martial arts styles from them pretty early on. In the long run, you can get all the styles from every school, but that will take you a hell of a long time or a lot of money. I don't think there's any "bad" school, as far as I know. Haven't looked into any of them too deeply though other than WV.

Dracula Factory posted:How much does your initial school selection matter? Beggars and Shaolin look the coolest to me but I have no clue how good either of them are. It's the most important choice you can make as far as I know. It's also given to you incredibly early on when you have zero idea what you're doing most likely. Anyway read the link posted in the OP, it will give you some ideas. Major things to consider: * Do you want to kidnap/be an rear end in a top hat like most goons? If yes then pick one that doesn't punish you for it, unless you like idling in church a lot. * You can take moves and internal skills from other schools but your maximum in your chosen school is 36 for internal skills and 30 from other schools. The skill levels do matter - for example I am an Emei (pretty princess), at 36 of my starting internal skill (Stilt-Walking Skills lol) if I parry I get a reduction of 90% internal damage, 70% external damage. This is huge and why Emei are considered viable tanks. BUT if you're not an Emei the max you can get it to is 30 which is a flat point reduction instead of a percentage. If you want to minmax the gently caress out you'll probably go insane because you don't know enough about the game systems yet, but the wiki has internal skill bonuses which are probably the most important next to what the weapon attacks actually do, the link is a general idea at least which is about as far as I would go if I were you. EDIT: If you want to be an rear end in a top hat like most goons are, you can't go wrong really with any of the 3 you can pick that won't punish you, short and sweet, all of them have monster damage skillsets later on if you get bored with their signature stuff. Tang - dodger / best ranged afaik, which I probably don't need to tell you is pretty good in PvP. Royal Guard - have a chain pull move that pretty much defines their early pvp and makes them feared/hated. Wanderer's Valley - stunlockers, poo poo damage without even trying. Later if you try you poo poo MORE damage. Demerzel fucked around with this message at Jan 10, 2013 around 20:05 |

We exchanged kills back and forth until they both lost their sacks and then they were so butt devastated they flagged pvp and continued attacking us. We both kept insta-rezzing and forced them to kill us probably 5x each, eventually they were both red named and got bounties on them and within 5 minutes we were waving at them sitting in jail for probably the next 8 hours each. I've just been cultivating the school skill and haven't touched any weapon attacks or anything, I assume that some flying skills should be first up? Also I am apparently too broke to become a fisherman, is there a daily limit or do you honestly not make enough cash to grab the gathering skills?

If you accept the quest to join a guild, then join our guild, you get about 150L to start off which should be enough for most skills or a set of mostly Copper gear (pretty damned good for starting out). Not sure about your quest, you might try asking in your School chat.
