![]() Blockheads is an iOS game that recently came out for iPhone and iPad. It's similar to a 2-d minecraft but myself and several others who don't find minecraft too appealing are really enjoying it. It has a reasonably deep crafting system and several types of plants and animals to plant/eat/murder. It does have some IAP. The game is free but too slow unless you buy a $2.99 IAP that doubles your crafting speed. There are also time crystals that speed up activities and are used for crafting some things, but they can also be mined so after the $2.99 you shouldn't have to buy any more. The game world appears to be an actual globe, that you can circumnavigate or even tunnel all the way through. Your guy can shimmy up walls and hang from ceilings, making movement much easier than in some minecraft like games. A couple tips for new people: You can plant crops. Just take the flax seed, apple, corn or whatever and put it in the ground and it'll grow over time. Harvesting crops with a machete gets you more than using your hands. Craft a spear and start exterminating the dodo bird again. You can queue up actions, like you can tell your guy to strip mine a whole area and just watch it happen. Time doesn't pass if you leave the app though. You can get multiple people through the warp gate. Link: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/the...d519596406?mt=8

Cross posting my last Blockheads-related question from the iOS thread, then, I guess: Is it possible to remove the portal, or mine out the block under it to take it with you? I'd try but I'm scared of getting into a situation where I need to blow all my crystals on making a new portal again

This game is amazing. I've never played Minecraft, Terraria or anything like that so I can't make a direct comparison, but I can tell you that after getting it, loading up and thinking "this looks dumb. How do I make stuff?" the next thing I knew it was four hours later and I was in a raft on a round-the-world trek. If you go off on a long journey, make sure you always have a workbench with you. I foolishly only took one (I didn't expect the world to be so big) and didn't make more at my secondary base, so getting across the North/South poles was a miserable slow slog because it turns out linen clothes don't keep you very warm in the snow and the cold hurts you. I managed to get the achievement for going around the world without getting the one for climbing the highest mountain ![]() I was blown away when I realised that as you trek around the planet, the sun and stars change their direction of movement. Amazing. Also, spoilers about the poles but there's a bonus clothing item at the top of each one! I didn't realise this until I'd gone past two, so there's another journey in my future... I'm currently on a deep-mine excursion... Have got as far as crafting some iron, but I don't have enough for a really good pickaxe yet. Also just wasted about half an hour to find out what happens if the 'Meditation' bar gets up to the top. It gave me an iron ingot. Woo-hoo. Anyway this game is way more fun than you'd expect, exploring the world and finding all the different kinds of fruit and everything is a blast. The water physics seems kind of neat and the craft speed doubler is worth it if you're going to start upgrading things and going for the better minerals. And be sure to make a basket for each inventory slot so you can carry around lots of poo poo. Anyone found gold yet? I can't yet make Steel stuff because I can't find squat (and furnace level 3 upgrade needs gold). However, deep mining did produce a poo poo ton of iron (which I was low on), tin and copper. I guess I just gotta go deeper. Edit: also, I've got so much loving stone that I'm going to build a castle to the sky.

I have not yet found Gold, but I'm prepping to go on a super deep mining adventure, down past where I found a lot of Iron, which includes bringing a bed and my workbench.

I'm not entirely comfortable with the gender roles your thread title is perpetuating. Be a dude, not a dick; don't kill donkeys. Monkeys, on the other hand, deserve nothing less than total extermination.

My dude is actually a dudette, so does that mean I can slaughter Donkeys wholesale without concern? ... also how do you get dodo feathers. Am I supposed to touch them? I keep just going after them with spears, which seems right and proper.

I upgraded my portal with an amethyst I found, but now it costs more to warp in extra dudes. That sucks.

A nice touch: if you build high enough, rain at ground level falls as snow high up.

I went back and tried a new world, and the only cost difference was 10 apples and 100 crystals instead. v Ursine Asylum fucked around with this message at Jan 11, 2013 around 18:59 |

I've gotten to space and to the center of the earth, and crafted just enough steel to upgrade my tool bench, but not much more. Iron is consistently rare all the way down to the planet core, though it looks like drop rates on all ores increase with depth. The world appears to be about 1000 blocks in height, for what it's worth. Now, time to get on towards circumnavigating! I've hit the west equator, but I have a lot more to do. Also, I warped in a second blockhead; it's cool to have one person stay at home and run the kiln/forge/etc while your other person is out running around. Something I noticed with multiple blockheads is that unless they are all sleeping or meditating, the world won't drop into fast-time. Which makes sense from a gameplay perspective. Maaaan I like this game. SquadronROE posted:What do you get from the upgraded portals? New and fancier donkeys? Upgraded portals let you portal in high-end resources; the higher your portal class the better stuff you can bring in. Like 10 steel ingots for 50 crystals at diamond level. Also there are pickaxes that give x2/x3/x4 multipliers to mined items. e: also gently caress donkeys, I killed a bunch of those carrot-eating jerks in the beginning. I leave them alone now, though. overdesigned fucked around with this message at Jan 11, 2013 around 19:12 |

Well, if you dug straight down, you're halfway there. Just be sure to cut L-shaped air vents so that you can go dive down and see what happens to the lava.

So for a note for those Miners: There seems to be no better Gem than a Ruby. Actually it looks like a Diamond is the best. Gold is the best mineral you find underground, and it is very far down, and you only find it rarely (and not in patches) FlashBangBob fucked around with this message at Jan 11, 2013 around 19:29 |

Anybody else with an iPhone 4 crashing alot? One of the most recent crashes was when it was about to play some sort of little tune, and looking at the game's website that's exactly a bug that the developer is wanting to fix. There were some other crashes but I don't remember hearing any music beforehand. I went ahead and spent $2.99 on the doubler, I think it's the most I've spent on a single iPhone purchase in a while. Having fun digging and planting seeds, but have not found any stone or limestone yet.

TACD posted:Are limestone and bricks useful for anything other than looking nice? And does coal do anything other than provide fuel for the kiln? Coal is used in turning iron to steel. Also, looks like there are seasons or at least some kind of day/night weather pattern. When I landed on one continent, the water along the coast was liquid; now as I'm departing, it seems that parts of it have iced over. e: annnnnd the day/night cycle moves across the virtual world; night in one part doesn't mean it's night everywhere. This is cool.

It's funny, this reminds me of when I first played Minecraft. Everything was so new and exciting and I wanted to explore everything. Obviously this doesnt have the same bugginess and the exploding green dicks but still! Also I managed to find a mountain (in a desert area) that had a massive cave filled with Amethysts and some sort of glowing block! This game is just too cool! Now to circumnavigate the world.

It appears, sadly, that portal blocks are non-interactable and immovable. So on that note, if you construct an additional portal, is it automatically upgraded to the same level as all other portals in the world, or do you have to upgrade it separately?
