Weight: 150 lbs
Height: 5' 5”
Age: 30
Sex: Female

Backstory
In November 2011 I was involved in a hit and run motorbike accident, basically I hit a car dead on at 50 mph because the bastard pulled out in front of me. I spent the majority of 2012 not walking, my body became more like a jelly bean than ever before and my muscles withered away to nowt. Last month I had my last round of surgery and now, all healed up, I can finally lift my left leg all the way off the floor, hooray!

I'm ready to get into shape. I need to put all this behind me and stop being 'that person' who wallowed in self pity throughout 2012, this is 2013, the year I become awesome!

The Plan
Stumptious All Dumbells All The Time 3 times a week.
Copious amounts of walking
Eating right, not eating chocolate and crisps for lunch like I frequently used to. I'll be tracking my intake.

My Goals
Post a great transformation in the 2013 Challenge Thread by 31/12/2013
Walk The Norfolk Coastal Path (45 miles) by 5/4/2013 (Easter Break for me)http://www.nationaltrail.co.uk/peddarsway/ Failed I walked 25.7 miles before an injury (not mine this time) made us have to stop. I shall be uploading pictures and walk information in a few mins. I feel awful, really gutted, and I don't know what my penalty should be
extension granted - to be completed in a few weeks

Walk The Cotswold Way (102 miles) by the end of the year 31/12/2013 (It will probably be during summer break though) http://www.nationaltrail.co.uk/cots...xt.asp?PageId=2

Although I'm lifting, my goals are based around distance walking. This is because I spent so long not walking that I want to get out there and get some of England's green and pleasant land under my feet. I'm a country girl and I love being outside in the loving miserable grey weather here.

That is my dog Eccles hiding behind me there. She is going to be my walking buddy, and apparently she has no head.

Righto - first update.

Lifting:
Squat: 2x15 - 3kg
Dumbell step up: 2x15 - 3kg
Calf raises: 2x15 - 3kg
Crunches: 2x15 - 2.5kg

Food
Breakfast - Porridge and 2 cups of tea
Lunch - Poached eggs, smoked salmon, cucumber and tomato salad
Supper - Pork and Apple Braise
Snacks - Almonds, wholefood peanut butter, more cups of tea, ryvita, apple, banana & milk

Total calories - 1292

I'll admit this is actually my 4th day of tracking food and I am struggling to get my calories up. I want to be getting 1500 calories into me, any ideas? It was never a problem before because I would just scarf a load of haribo or something - now I'm eating healthy I'm a bit lost.

Saturday

Walking
5 miles along an old steam railway track. Straight as a Roman road it was!

Found this neat bench along the way - it should say pain then heat!

Eccles checking in, she's pretty excited because she found a badger set, it was huge!

Food
Breakfast: Two poached eggs, two crumpets, cuppah tea.
Lunch: Tofu, plain chicken and cucumber wholemeal wrap, two of. (gently caress me, two wholemeal tortillas really pushed my calories up! That's good news.)
Supper: Spiced plum chicken with cous cous
Snacks: 25g almonds, banana, glass of milk, more cups of tea.

Total calories - 1546

Today I got really excited about walking the Norfolk Coastal Path. My husband came with me today and we discussed what to pack in our backpacks, how many miles we would do in a day and if we could stay at an inn along the way that let Eccles in our room with us. My left knee was pretty weak today, in fact my left leg was a bit wussy in general. Not painful though! Which is fantastic. I feel very positive.

I also found all the chocolate I was given for Christmas. A big rear end bar of galaxy caramel, cadbury fruit and nut, all the toffee pennies out of quality street. Fffffuck why do people buy you so much tasty crap at Christmas? I guess I should give it all away to my sisters.

Sunday:

Walking
Hit the beach this morning with Eccles my dog and Dave my husband. I didn't log the miles because to be honest we just dawdled about for an hour enjoying the freezing temperatures of the wind off the North Sea. Here are some pictures I took on my phone, hence the not great quality.
We've got sandy beaches
So? Who the gently caress wants to see em?

That would be 1 degree then, bloody cold!

lifting - all dumbbells

Bench Press:
5kg x 15
7.5kg x 6

One arm row:
7.5kg x 15
7.5kg x 15
7.5kg x 13
7.5kg x 13

Overhead shoulder press:
2kg x 9 (ffffuck no)
1kg x 12 (still hard)

Stiff legged deadlift:
7.5kg x 15
7.5kg x 15

OK - so I'm really bad with the over head shoulder press as my shoulder was crushed pretty badly in the accident, breaking bone and squashing muscles, yuk. This is my supreme weakness with upper body stuff and man can I feel how limp and weak it is. It's really frustrating, like my left arm doesn't belong to me because my brain and right arm are all 'go go go' and lefty is staring off into space.
I am also stoked though as last week, before I was logging, I lifted 3kg on each dumbbell. I'm so excited I went up to 7.5! I was obviously lifting too light and now I'm actually testing myself. Dave watched me do dead lifts and confirmed my back is not curving, and stood with me when I did bench presses as I am seriously feeble. I don't care though, all I can see are goals to be SMASHED!

Food
Breakfast: Bowl of porridge, cup of tea - 327 calories
Lunch: Scrambled eggs & smoked salmon in a whole wheat tortilla - 519 calories
Dinner: Soya mince bolognese with whole wheat spaghetti - 435 calories
Snacks: Tea, 20g peanut butter, 2 Ryvita - 219 calories

Total calories - 1500 exactly! I'm starting to get this

I'm probably not going to be updating every day for very long, just until I've sorted out a decent routine and I've settled into my new lifestyle. Then I'll probably update once or twice a week.

Monday:

Was in hospital today getting my limbs x-rayed, all is going very well in there. My muscles, on the other hand, ache like daddy-o after yesterday's lifting.

Walking
5 miles
Nowhere special, just around the dull concrete streets of Norwich and my home town. I was out and about all day today so I'm knackered. I added it up using that route tracker thing on googlemaps, was shocked to see I walked so much to be honest.
It's also snowing loads right now. I'm probably not going into university tomorrow, I'm still pretty messed up 'head wise' after the accident and I just can't face the 15 mile commute on icy roads.

Food
Breakfast: Porridge - 327 calories
Lunch: Roast chicken slices, mozzarella, tofu, whole almonds - 357 calories
Supper: Tuna and tomato whole meal rice - 346 calories
Snacks: Banana, ryvita, peanut butter, tea - 324

Total calories - 1354. I would have eaten more but well rushed today.

I also worked out my brain by reading Richard II today, and I have to read Richard III tomorrow. My brain has DOMS.

Having some trouble with my left hand today. That was broken too and healed a little funny inside the cast so my pinkie has shorted a little and I can't make a strong fist. Holding a dumbell by my side as I did my squats, step ups and calf raises was getting tricky, like it was slipping out of my hand very slightly. I shall keep an eye on that.

Wednesday (yesterday)

It got cold, I hate snow and ice. The litchgate near my house looked nice though so I took a picture.

Walking
Hardly any at all - Eccles got really cold paws and became so upset I had to carry her home. Yeah I spoil her. So I did half an hour of aerobics in my living room. It sucked, I hated it and the woman in it kept yodling 'ooohhh yeeeaahh burn those calories sisteeer'. As long as the weather stays at -6 to -10 degrees I'll be getting my yoga mat out on non lifting days. I had packed it away as I recently had a suspected hernia and doing planks wan't really on the cards - well, it's sorted now so I'll start yoga up again!

Food
Breakfast: Porridge - 327
Lunch: 2 poached eggs, 60g of smoked salmon, meat free sausages, plum tomatoes and some cucumber - 466
Dinner: Sweet and sour turkey with brown rice - 411
Snacks: Almonds, ryvita, peanut butter 10g -334

Total calories - 1538

I'm lifting later today, I'll need to wait for Dave to get home from work so he can help me.

edit - No, wait, gently caress excuses! OK so Eccles doesn't like the cold, she can stay behind as I go out for a walk drat it! After all, my toxx is all about walking! I'm off out!

edit again - 3 and a half miles. Not bad as I'm still lifting later.

Since your goals are walking related, maybe you would enjoy some type of pedometer? I'm mostly familiar with the Nike Fuelband but I'm sure there are tons of other options.

I'm walking at a decent pace so by the end I feel well and truly knackered. I want to wear both me and the pooch out haha. I really like the idea of a pedometer too, I'll order one off Amazon! The weather has been total poo poo at the moment, a lot of snow and ice which make walking difficult aaaand I've been dealing with some post traumatic stress crap that kept me indoors for a few days. Tuesday - 1451

Thanks for the comments guys! I was worried nobody cared for a bit there haha. I'm planning on going for a long walk at the weekend, need to get my milage up if I'm going to do these mega walks down the line! Eccles has been crazing me this week since we've not been out much except for her regular walks, she craves big walks!

Dr Scoofles
Dec 6, 2004

I have a confession - I totally flunked out of my lower body lifting at the end of this week. I've been so drat busy as I'm setting up a small business and this week has been mad with product making gubbins. Oh, and my sister has been in labor for he past few days with a really difficult birth so lifting also took a back seat to baby things.

To punsh myself I just did a 6 mile walk! My knee gave out twice, that's due to having no muscle and a torn ligament. I crave knee strength!

Eating has been getting boring but Im sticking to it like a loving maniac. Ive been playng this game on the ipad where you have to fry chips and burgers and stuff, pretty certain this is a form of self harm. Any-who...I'm now down to 146lbs as of this morning! For lunch I am having boiled eggs, salad and two veggie sausages.

Back to lifting!

8.5kg x 15

Calf raises
8.5kg x 15
8.5kg x 15

Step ups
8.5kg x 15 (finally going up a steeper step with both legs, left leg is so weak)
8.5kg x 15

Sit ups
5kg x 15
5kg x 15

Having trouble holding onto the dumbbell with my left hand, I'm kind of missing a knuckle and can't make a proper fist. Hmmm, not too sure what to do.

Dr Scoofles
Dec 6, 2004

Tuesday.

Bench press
20kg x 5
20kg x 1 (noooope)

One arm row
10kg x 13
10kg x 10 (left arm boo)
10kg x 10
10kg x 9 (lefty)

Stiff leg dead lift
10kg x 10
10kg x 13

Overhead shoulder press
2kg x 11
2kg x 8

Well, I just finished lifting and today I feel mega awesome because 1 - I really felt like I pushed myself today and 2 - I think I want to puke. So so pleased I'm creeping into double figures on 3 of my lifts, and my dreaded nemesis 'busted shoulder' is slowly starting to move more weight!

I'm not updating my food so much because I'm eating exactly the same things and am always decently nder my goal, I haven't eaten a single 'bad' food since I've started either, so eah, nothng exciting to confess on the food front.

Squats
10kg x 10
10kg x 10

Calf raises

Step ups
10kg x 10 (left leg really struggling)
10kg x 15 (on a smaller step)

Sit ups
10kg x 15
10kg x 15

Stupid dumb left hand is letting go of the dumbbell. I tried using the barbell but I can't get it behind my neck let lane onto my shoulders thanks to my stupid dumb shoulder being busted too. I'm tempted to switch my lifts about a bit so I don't do all the 'dumbbell at the sides' lifts all on the same day.

Saturday!

I'm on my own this weekend so back to all dumbbells, I can't use a barbell by myself as I don't have a rack and Im a safety lover.

Bench press
8.5kg x 7 (wow do I feel weak tonight)
8.5kg x 5

Wow, I want the barbell back!

One armed row.
10kg x 15
10kg x 12 (lefty)
10kg x 11
10kg x 10 (lefty again)

Siff legged dead lift
10kg x 15
10kg x 15

Overhead shoulder press
2.5kg x 12
2.5kg x 9

Since my last big walk I've only been doing a couple of miles a day and since I walk the same route day in day out Ive not been logging it as ts dull, routine stuff. No excuse though, so tomorrow me and Eccles are gong to get out into the country and enjoy ourselves! My husband is away but I have the car so I might go exploring. I really want to up my walking since my toxx is walking related.

My left hand is still poo poo. I've started wearing a lifting glove on that hand just to see if it can help me hold onto the weight. Unfortunately it won't change as it healed that way and the bones are all set, so I'll just have to figure it it as I go along.

Still nothing to report on the food front, I find keeping within all my goals really easy and I have no craving what-so-ever for sweet things or bread. My friend came over for tea a few days ago and she brought a cake with her, I valiantly turned it down even though I felt like a rude poo poo for doing so.

Also, this log needs more dog pics! Tomorrow I shall photograph Eccles in the style of a wild wolf or somethng, you know, outdoors stuff.

Things have been a bit poo poo the past few days as my knee has decided to start giving out on me, winding up with me being unable to walk tonight. I'm seriously bummed out as I really really don't want to go back on my crutch. Plan of action is to get back on my paid meds, rest up a few days and dial down my weights to start again on Monday. My problem is I'm so impatient that I don't want tonrehabiltate I just want to lift like a normal person.

Ugh

I'm going to get out walking at the weekend, and tomorrow is my weigh in day.

Dr Scoofles
Dec 6, 2004

Friday: one month down

So I just weighed in and am at 144lbs! I've lost 6lbs in a month and I seem to have settled into a pattern of losing a lb a week. I hope this trend of gradual loss continues.

Food
This month I have eaten out twice, the second time I ordered the children's size version because I hate it when you are presented with a vast mound of food. My relationship with food has changed a lot, I appreciate it more and when I do have a treat it really is a treat! A few days ago a friend of my dad sent some oranges and lemons over from his garden in Italy. When I ate that orange it was amazing, I savoured every sweet peice of it, the amazing smells, the bright reds and oranges that ran through it and the extra sweet flavour. Before changing my diet I woud have dismissed the orange as boring.

This valentines day I am cooking a 3 course Italian meal for my husband, I'm looking forward to it so much that I've started planning it in advance, I daydream about how awesome it's gong to be. That is How I want to feel about food, I want to be thrilled and excited by the good things and not mindlessly eating with no pleasure or appreciation.

Walking
I've been really enjoying my walking. The problem is getting major miles under my feet has to be a weekend thing as it takes several hours, and will continue to take longer as the miles go up. I walk about 2 miles every day as part of my day to day routine, then at weekends am practicing for my upcoming big walk. I can't wait to walk the Norfolk Coastal Path, it will be so fun.

Lifing
This is the hardest for me because a) my injuries and b) my own stupid head. I look at other people's logs, and in the women's weight lifting thread, and all these people are lifting such impressive weights. I read posts by first timers who lift so much on their first go, and I feel really pathetic as I struggle to hold 8.5kg in one hand. I've gotten frustrated, I have to admit, with this aspect of my new routine. My knee is still giving me poo poo today and the thought of reaching for that crutch makes me feel like I've failed in some way.

I want to up my general activity levels dring the week and am gong to investigate local classes for yoga and other such things.

Dr Scoofles
Dec 6, 2004

Monday:

Ok, I've rested up a while, had a little pity party for myself, now back to lifting. Dialling it back a bit because of minor injury and frankly I need to build muscle smartly, not bugger my knee over for the sake of numbers.

Squats
8.5kg x 15
8.5kg x 10

Calf raises
8.5kg x 15
8.5kg x 15

Step ups
8.5kg x 15 (starting to loose weight in left hand)
8.5kg x 15

Sit ups
8.5kg x 15
8.5kg x 10

Yesterday I walked 4 miles with my dog. Not a huge amount, but I'm glad I was outside. I've also booked the first inn for my toxx challenge! I'm planning to walk the 46.6 miles over 4 days. Finding accommodation in these small villages is turning out to be a pain in the arse, but now the first one is booked it feels real. I seriously can't wait! Mega walking challenge, dossing in pubs with my dog, eating out every day. It's going to rock.

I'm also queuing up a series of 'all day challenges' in which I walk all morning, have lunch at some country pub, then walk all afternoon. If I can rope my husband into it then hopefully the first all dayer will be this weekend.

This week will not be a good week food wise as its valentines day on Thursday, and I'm cooking an Italian feast, then Friday I'm off out for dinner with some people my husband works with.

I've been stressing a little about lifting, after my last session my knee was utter poo poo again, my knee cap looked like it wanted to escape and walking was hard for a few days. I'm going to have to accept that I'm not helping myself here.

On the good side of things- The weather has turned from drat cold to just normal cold, so this morning I'm going to some local national trust estate to tramp about and get some exercise. Pics will surly follow. I'm also going to drag my new bike out of hibernation and go visit a friend out of town. All accommodation for my mega walk is booked too, I'm really going to do it!

Weigh in day, I'm 143lbs. Earlier in the week I just scraped int the high end of 142lbs, Iwanted to log that but I promised myself I would make Friday my log day.

Last night was a gluttony night, valentines day and all. I ate loads of bread, polenta, meat stew, semolina dumplings and steamed sponge pudding...so many carbs. I'm also eating out tonight with some friends of my husband. I don't feel too bad about it because I want to live a normal life and that includes socialising over food now and again.

I'm still here, it's just I've been in-loving-sanely busy reading non stop for my literature degree. Turns out Shakespeare burn-out is a real thing and I also think I'm starting to hate his comedies.

I've been struggling with my knee still and I've been getting slightly scared and a little depressed because I convinced myself I was going backwards instead of forwards in my rehabilitation. The doctor says my knee is 'structurally sounds', my MRI is A-OK so I need to stop freaking out. Anyway - I've been walking smaller distances but way more frequently this past week and I'm getting better. I've been to the woods pretty much every day this week, and as a result have become friends with this totally great owl who is always flying about in the monring.

No mega walks just yet, I'm pussing out because I started walking funny again and it made me sad So, this morning I decided to break out a walking stick and it helps.
Sorry my pictures are late, I took these this morning.

Feel great today! Dragged my rear end out of bed crack of dawn and drove out to the woods with Eccles where I did 5km and my knee felt alright, hurrah! I went exploring and ended up in some huge field with this tiny castle thing in it, I felt a little bit isolated and weird (not to mention I was trespassing) so we didn't hang about there for long.

I feel a bit lame with my log lately as I've not been charting major progress with my mileage, more like just being generally active as I moan about various medical problems. That totally sucks and after a bit of a mope to my husband he's agreed to come with me for a decent walk at the weekend so we can start 'training' for the biggie next month. Maybe I should wear a backpack so I get used to some extra weight?

Down another 1lb this week too, progress. I also feel less lovely in myself as well, like I'm working towards something even if it is just walking. When I do the Coastal Path I'll feel so proud as I'll be walking greater distances with my bummed leg than I did when I had a healthy leg.

4.2 miles this morning, and then I did a food shop. Go me! Knee is much much better today, feeling ready for an all day-er now

So tomorrow, which is Saturday, is gong to be my first all dayer. The plan is to walk 12 miles, a practise run of the average walking day I'll be doing for my toxx. I'm getting excited now that I'm moving from bad knee > normal walking > mega walking!

This past week has been pretty dull, I've done a few 5 mile walks, eaten very sensibly and am on the verge of 140lbs now. Am impatient to start tomorrow.

Today me and Dave did an all-dayer! 12 miles in total. Little Eccles is some kind of machine because she never got tired whereas I'm dead pooped. We walked the old train track with the mile markers - 6 miles out, sandwiches (Eccles had some dog chow as a special treat) then 6 miles home.

My feet really hurt, I need to buy thicker socks dammit! I'm so worn out, Dave did take a couple of pictures which I'll upload tomorrow because I'm too shagged out to even attempt it tonight, haha. My knee is fine too, a few tweaks and twinges along the way but no swelling, yay! I'm crashing on the sofa now with a cup of tea and Running Man on the telly. Tomorrow I'll be walking the woods again!

Eeh, I was a bit poo poo about putting those pics up huh? I'll be honest I'm bored sick of walking that old train line so my enthusiasm for putting the exact same pictures up again has waned. Great week though! I've been getting in my car and taking the dog for proper proper walks every day, really getting my knee into shape. It's loosened up so much. Sill need to get that pedometer, I need to get something off Amazon today so that will be my chance to order it.

Anyway, since I've been getting bored I have a new route planned for tomorrow! It's a 10 mile circular walk very close to where I live.

I'm not bothering to go to the hall or look at all that Tudor stuff, I used to work there and have seen it all a bazillion times. It will be interesting to try use a map...I can't map read to save my life. Lucky for me Dave is a geography graduate so he can deal with maps when I mess up.

Food has been going very well, I've upped my protein intake and weight loss has been consistent. I've also been investigating a local hiking group who arrange walks further afield, to Yorkshire and the like. I need to get over my anxiety of doing new things and meeting new people, this is a good chance, plus the ae my age and look friendly enough.

Shall update tomorrow's walk when I get in, probably late afternoon.

edit -

Have some pics from this days walk, just got them off my phone.

Today I did 10 miles on a circular route which you can see here:

It rained and rained and rained, almost every track was totally flooded and at one point Eccles got stuck in a bog! This is the hardest walk I've done so far because the conditions sucked. No pics as Dave couldn't get his fancy touch screen phone to work in the rain. I don't have a waterproof coat so Dave lent me his semi-waterproof ski jacket. Last time he visited his folks in London his mum washed it, and she must use a fuckton of laundry powder because this coat started frothing up in the rain...gently caress it was annoying but smelled great.

Map reading was really fun! Just trying to figure out which fork to go down, which track to follow... I know this is a piss easy map for hikers to navigate with but it's the first time I've map walked. So, I got home tired, freezing so it hurt and totally soaked though. Despite that I feel awesome! Things I need for my toxx walk:

* Waterproof jacket
* Waterproof trousers
* Waterproof boots
* Waterproof map holder
* A backpack that is my size

Eccles was a total trooper today, she is normally so prissy about walking in puddles but today she was wading through mud, poo poo and water like nobodies business. Best dog ever

I had some more minor knee pain during my daily walks this week, however today everything seems to be A-OK so hooray. I am starting to feel a bit different in myself, better. Anyway - I got up nice and early today for a walk and at last the lovely weather has broken to become a glorious day!

Not waterproof in the slightest!

Same old same old. I admit when I go into the hiking thread in YLLS I am eaten up with envy because you yanks have such vast, open spaces to explore. I need to get up North, in Yorkshire and Scotland!

My crappy phone can't handle trees I guess, they looked nice in real life.

Tomorrow me and Eccles are going for a biggie walk on our own. Dave declared he doesn't want to do any walking this weekend, I knew he would get sick of it eventually
Also, I'm getting my yoga mat out this afternoon. I put it away a while back because my body was way way to stiff but now I have no excuse!

Just wanted to say that your walks/hikes are great and I love the pictures. We lived in England (North Yorkshire) when I was small and my dad loved the walking routes up there. I hope you get to visit them!

Me too! Thanks for being so kind, my log isn't very busy but it means a lot to know folk do come by and read from time to time

No biggie walk today after all, I did 3 miles which is about an hour, however I'm brim full of anxiety as I'm writing an essay that's due in soon and I really needed to get home and get writing. Also, I dropped my DS on my foot today. OK so it didn't do any damage but it huuuurt Tomorrow me and the husband are going to Go Outdoors to get our waterproof gear. I'm excited, it feels like getting some equipment is making me a real walker now!

I'm tempted to take a progress comparison picture, maybe tonight? It's been over 2 months, I don't feel the slightest bit different body wise but maybe putting some pictures next to each other will help. That or they will be exactly the same and then I'll cry, either way it's gotta be done.

Take the pictures - I bet there are some differences! If nothing else, look for new/bigger muscles in your legs. I haven't been showing pics of my legs in my log but my quads are getting a little ridiculous, I think I'm going to have to show them off soon. It's really hard to just look at yourself and see a difference because you see yourself every day so it's been a gradual change.

Done and done. I did put them up separately in the OP, but putting them side by side like this shows me that, amazingly, I do look differently! I nearly didn't take them because I looked in the mirror and thought "I look exactly the same why bother?"

I feel so motivated!

So much difference! You are melting away, great job. I'm glad you were brave and took the pictures.

What have I done ??!
I just blew a load of money on walking gear. Nothing fancy mind, just stuff I never had and really needed! I got:

A backpack
Waterproof boots
A fleece
Long sleeved base layer top
Waterproof jacket
Walking trousers (I'm not walking in jeans drat it!)
Waterproof trousers
A beany hat
Thick socks
Waterproof map holder

So now I spent all this crazy money there is no way in hell I can even think about washing out of long distance walking haha. I'm planning a serious walk for next weekend. Me, Dave and Eccles are going to drive somewhere a little further afield and do a planned route. I want to load my backpack up too, get a feel for walking with a load. Bearing in mind I'll have to carry tins of dog food on my toxx walk, and food and water... I dread the weight of my pack.

I'm getting so excited
